The 2nd half of last night's game made it look like BH had never played against a 2/3 zone before. Overall, it was a very good season, but it was a tough loss to end it.
-
Agreed. Honestly, BH missed a lot of open and easy shots too. It could have easily been a 30+ point win.
-
I guess sarcasm doesn't come across that well on message boards.
-
Is it a requirement listed in the job posting?
-
I thought the Chronicle number for Asbeck was around 175-180. I would think the current salary range being discussed would be a minimum of 200.
-
If that number is true then that's just sad. It's the ultimate in daddy ball....undeserved daddy ball at that.

It wasn't too hard to see when 1) having an understanding of VB more than Wins/Losses and 2) watching the actual matches. BH's record at the end of this year was really misleading, they started off not great against mostly decent teams (a couple good teams too), but they also struggled against teams they shouldn't have. That got masked once they hit district. Most fans don't know too much about VB unless they have/had a sister, daughter, or niece play, so they get tricked by that inflated win/loss record. Most also don't get that the majority of skill comes from club ball and BH's girls are not getting any additional refinement from the schools program. That is evident in the playoffs and against comparable teams. BH players can only out talent other teams so much, eventually their coaching needs to catch up to help those girls out.

SSDY - Same “Stuff” Different Year(s). Two teams with equivalent talent but big differences in coaching. Seems that a pattern is building at BH VB.

Friendswood has a clear path to State in D2. BH will be lucky to get past A&M Consol in the second round. Will have to play their best match of the year to do it.
-
Looks like BH's bi district could be a layup, but the prospect of playin A&M Consol in the 2nd round will be a tough draw.
-
The new playoff format waters down the post season to an amazing degree. BH is unbelievable fortunate that Friendswood would be in D2, I doubt it would be a repeat of last year.

Understand that Iola is a 2A champ and that BH is young, but BH should have beaten them in the first match and they did the second time they played them (should have been in two instead of three though). Two seasons ago you had a team just as young beat the eventual 6A champ Dripping Springs in non-district. Is this current team as talented as the previous, not sure...probably not, but you shouldn't be seeing this big of a drop off with a group that is also filled with club players. The talent it still there, just not seeing the execution. Just like football, the jimmy's and joe's still need to be put in the right place. Anyways, they should beat Clear Lake by a good amount. If this match is close....then....
-
They are young with only two seniors, but so was the group two years ago. That group was mostly underclassmen and dominated a much more difficult non-district schedule; so did classes before them. Overall this current group is talented enough to have a better record than 9-10, but for whatever reason, it is not happening on the court. Not getting to the championship bracket of a weaker tournament and losing to a 2A team is not good. We'll see what happens at this weekends tournament, but I think they will take some lumps again. However, I fully expect them to go undefeated in district.
-
Correct. They start off with Conroe, Belton, and Huntsville. Even with how things are going now, I expect BH to beat them. Struggling against these teams would be dissapointing.
-
This is not a good start for BH. Deer Park lost just as much talent as BH, but you could argue that BH had better returning talent (which they do). A lot of teams lose players year to year, but if you claim to be an elite program you reload and coach up who is next in line. Maybe there is a reason Bh elected to not play in the Volleypalooza or Dickinson tournaments this year.
-
Agreed, TGCA should be ignored completely. TVI is good, but once the season gets going the Houston Chronicle's High School section is probably the best for teams in this area.
-
Not a good day for BH with 3 losses. St. John's, Harlan, and Amarillo are all good teams, but BH never really looked to be in any of the matches. Looks like tomorrow's bracket play could be difficult too depending on how the other groups shake out. It is difficult to replace all of last years seniors, especially the 5 from the starting lineup, but this is a noticiable drop off from the past few seasons.
-
BH will play Pearland today. The Oilers will be a test for them.
-
What does your team return for the 2024 season?

Good for Ned on Volleypalooza, definately get to see where you stack up against established programs. It is curious that BH would pull out of a tournament with that level of competition. BH should be playing the toughest competition available because they won't see it in district. -
Uil to split playoffs in every sport like football

I don't see the need to do this outside of football. -
If only BH could keep their seniors one more year.
-
Well it doesn’t help that half of this district either didn’t keep stats or have decided to keep them hidden and off of Max Preps. Not that Max Preps is perfect, but besides seeing each team play in person, it’s the only tool available to gauge player performance and metrics. As for GCM, their pending predicament is really an issue with GCCISD, and Baytown, as a whole. Three high schools have diluted each athletic program to a point of perpetual mediocrity. Yeah, you might get occasional sparks, but nothing sustainable. GCM is about to be thrown to the wolves and be a doormat for the foreseeable future.
-
Agreed. The district's top awards didn't make sense, but neither did the team selections. My gripe about the OPOY going to GCM is that they also had the Setter of the Year and Coach of the Year. If you have the top two offensive awards and coach of the year, you shouldn't have to have a play-in game for 3rd/4th, you would expect a team with those attributes to be markedly better. Honestly, anyone who watched all these teams knows who had the top offensive and defensive players and which had the top coach. Congratulations to GCM, though, but if the snapshot numbers in the Football forum are valid, these could be the last big volleyball awards they see for a while.
-
BH also has more depth of talent than the other teams. The girls who were not on the starting six would be standouts on any other district teams.
-
Pretty much.
