  1. I'm dumbfounded by these selections, to be honest. How a team that steamrolls the district, whose only "bad" loss was to 6A Vandergrift, and made it to the Region Finals didn't dominate these awards is frankly embarrassing for this district. The 3rd and 4th place teams should not have more players with top district honors than the start to finish 1st place team. The district defensive player is an outside hitter??? Looks like a bunch of sour grapes to me.
  2. Yep, Fulshear was a 6A, almost right after the last realignment. The most significant difference between the two offenses was that Fulshear was full steam ahead on swinging away; there was too much firepower from their outside hitters. Difficult for BH's defense to pick up all those missiles being fired at them. Overall, BH had a great run and beat outstanding teams in Foster, Friendswood, and College Station; not a bad showing.
  3. BH and Sterling announced theirs on Twitter. Sterlings all-district selections are head-scratchers. Kinda crazy how a 4th place team had so many selections and overall top awards. Curious to see what GCM and Lee awarded themselves, I mean, were awarded.
  4. Didn't help that the up ref in the match didn't seem to have a grasp of some of the basic rules of volleyball. That being said, Fulshear came to play and were hitting absolute bombs. Congrats to the Chargers on a good win and good luck at State. Congrats to the Eagles for a dominating district run and a great playoff run. Hopefully, realignment can work in their favor to get them moved to a new, more competitive district. More of the same, plus two more BISD schools, is not what the program needs to grow.
  5. Very suspect offensive play calling by BH.
  6. BH deserves to lose....wow
  7. Or instead of two straight passes, just line up and run the damn ball.
  8. Just a terrible red zone sequence for BH.
  9. Is there a reason BH abandoned the run?
  10. BH having to go through a very tough Foster team could play to their advantage. They had to put together a complete match to win and are battle-tested. Friendswood, on the other hand, drew a significantly weaker Randle squad that got handled by Foster twice during their district play.
  11. This area really needs another program to step up and provide BH some competition.
  12. If Ned plays clean then they can beat Sante Fe. The difference between 3rd and 4th is big. RSS and GCM have no shot against FW, but I think that RSS has a punchers chance against this years Manvel team. Not sure about GCM, maybe they do as well. BH should bury LP.
  13. I would bet that things are pretty much set for this district.
  14. Plural...wow.
  15. Congrats to Lee I guess. View it as incremental progress, baby steps.
  16. I don't think it is against UIL rules if certain stipulations are met.
  17. Based on last night's match, I think the wheels are about to fall off of GCM. Like in football, I wonder how much better a combined GCCISD volleyball team would be. I doubt they would beat BH, but at least they would be much more competitive.
  18. If I’m not mistaken BH was missing a few starters and key players for last years match; also playing setters that didn’t have varsity experience. That, coupled with questionable coaching decisions, is quite hard to overcome no matter who you are. Last nights match, based on those set scores, should show you what is closer to reality.
  19. And that's a wrap for 1st in this district. Looks like 2-4 is really anyone's guess between Sterling, GCM, Nederland, & PNG. I wonder if Crosby can spoil it for anyone or sneak into 4th?
  20. People had the opportunity to do right by the kids (athletically and academically) and vote for a unified HS, but preferred to settle for participation awards instead of real competition. Until Baytown corrects that mistake, results like this will be the norm.
  21. Yes and no. Playing your kids in the right spots is a decent portion of it, but there are other things going on there. Many high school coaches won't admit it, but a lot of their elite/better players are almost all products of club volleyball. It doesn't mean that you can't have a competitive HS team without club players, it just means the coach (and staff) better be really good at establishing fundamental concepts in their non-club players. Solid defense (passing and net play) and serving can keep you in many matches when your team's offensive skills, or overall talent, don't compare. Essentially, keep the ball alive and have the other team make mistakes. IMO, you don't need club to instill solid defense and serving in players, just takes effort and the proper know-how. However, it looks like Sterling figured something out last night.
  22. Sterling has the ability to beat GCM, but it will be their coaching that holds them back.
  23. This situation seems, at least on the surface, to be similar to when Gage took over at BH. It felt like Gage didn't realize the skill set of the players already in the program and was just too stubborn/inflexible with his offensive scheme to properly utilize the talent he had. Is this a fair assessment of what is going on right now at Crosby or is it deeper than that?
