1. For your information both of my sons do start. My boys are football players to the BONE! My oldest was the starting defensive end as a Freshman and this year as a sophmore. My youngest started both ways on the JV this year as a freshman. After my sons graduate, Ill be too busy going to watch them play at a higher level so no I will not go to every practice like i have in the past. And I would also like to know your background on football and how you got to be sooooooo kowledgable?
2. Hey Fran, I'm not belly aching at all, you guys get on here and blame the kids just like our Ex-AD, I disagree. I hope our future AD doesnt read this and say "I sure dont want this HJ job, I got nothing to work with"...Mical is right, if our basketball program was in the same shape as our football program, Lazeek would be singing a different tune. This is the thanks you get for being an HJ Football fan? Looks like to me Lazeek is part of the problem. A community that only cares about basketball? I dont buy it...
3. We were in every game. Might have possibly been out manned againsr Silsbee but they made enough mistakes we probably could have beaten them. Laugh all you want, we'll see..
4. Same map as Silsbee, WOS, and Bridge City...
5. Like i said, the boys are not the problem... We won those two games on pure athletic talent. Every comment you make just makes mine more relevant.
6. I dont want a coach to listen to me, i want one that can evaluate talent. I want one that is strick and dont refer to his players as babies. I want one that will let his assistants coach and take their input into consideration. A disciplanarian that demands respect from his players. You guys keep taking what i say out of context, i would say something derrogatory but im affaid ill get kicked off of here and not be able to say i told you so...
7. Really... Like i said, if we get a guy in here with no ties to the community that that could care less what the parents think, the  boys we have now will put HJ football on the map. Excuse me if i dont appologize  for being passionate about our football program.
8. Lol, you got me... I may have missed a practice or two due to inclement weather or business, but I did make most all of them. When I say "hands tied" I have two boys that play at HJ and I have heard from numerous kids (I know them all because I did run the youth league here for about 6 years) that alot of times when the assistants would try to coach or make a point, their "toes would get stepped on" so to speak. Let me ask you a couple of questions, does Silsbee do 1 on 1 drills at all? If a kid says, "hey, i have played guard all my life, can I try to take the starting position?" does the coach at Silsbee give them a shot? Lets say that a kid was playing guard on the varsity and a jv kid was on defense whipping the guard every play at practice and the jv kid also played guard, would the Silsbee coach give the jv kid a shot at varsity if that kid continuously whipped the varsity kid at practice on a daily basis to make sure the best kid got to play? How about this, lets say that Silsbee looses every district game for 2 or three years straight, would the Silsbee coach tell the kids "i only have 2 spots on the varsity, all other positions are taken", before the season ever starts? I'll answer that for you, NO! he would not, no coach would... If you loose every district game, every position should be open to make sure the best 11 play!!! The JV kid would get a shot to take a position that he earned. All Im saying is, our football program needs a change, and you will see this next year what Im talking about.

I realize youth sports have nothing to do with High School sports. My point is your exact point, how can you say in the 7th grade what a kid is going to do as a freshman, or senior? Thats what we have been doing here..... I understand that posting something on here, I'm subject to your ridicule and twisting of my words, and I realize you guys have nothing better to do than get on here than badger people I have 2 boys that play football for HJ and take offense when you say "he did the best with what he had to work with". He has had plenty to work with.
I could give a rats rear end to what you take offense to.. I will stand by what I said, Coach Martel and his staff did the best they could with what they had to "work with" To come on here and pretend you know what or implying you know what is best for the program is laughable. So you resort to cut downs about bycycle seats and massengill. Question, Are you one of the parents who stand outside the field house glad handing the coaching staff after games and telling them what a great job they are doing?
No, I dont do that... I am the one sitting in the stands pissing off all the other people that accept mediocrity from their football coach. I am the one that goes to the AD's face and says "your wrong" we have athletes here at HJ. We proved it this year by being in every game we played. Nothing in the program changed, only the kids. So you being from Silsbee knows what is best for our program? Thats laughable. His staff???? The ones that care, had their hands tied! . I havent missed an HJ game or practice in 2 years so yes, I probably do know a little more about what goes on in this program than you. Thanks for your input though hopefully our community will NOT take it into consideration... * Second warning- you don't take hints well do you? *

11.
This is stupid.... What he had to work with???? Thats crap!!!!! David Martel is a great AD. He was at every event he could fit into a day. Great family man, great kids, great role model, awesome track coach,  poor judge of football talent. Our youth program has been thriving for 12 or 13 years now. Playoffs every year in every division. I know there are lots of variables that come into play, but the athletes are here. Just started an off season workout program this past year, where has it been????? You will never have a successful football program without a serious off-season program. This is the problem. Too many people in this community are more concerned with who gets to play and how much they get to play just like little league. The program did better this year because of the athletes that are coming up. Nothing changed accept the kids. With Martel still at the helm, we would probably win two or three more district games this next year. Mark my words, if we get a defensive minded guy in here with no ties to this community, and changes our offense to some type of power, there's no telling how far these boys will go. It isnt the kids, it never has been... Great coaches + serious program = a successful program.. HJ's rogram has not been successful for 12 or 13 years now... Its time for a change and I welcome it...
Before you ascend let me try to instill some "calm down" therapy.  You are saying that "there's no telling how far these boys will go."  I'll tell you now, that as long as H-J is in the district with WO-S you will not beat them.  And the same might be true about Silsbee, but I'm not as convinced about that.  So, there is SOME telling how far those boys will go.  Maybe as high as second place in football, or third place in football, or fourth place in football which would mean playoffs.  Now, that's a pretty good accomplishment considering recent football history.  Just chill a little bit, bedelmon and enjoy it when it happens. 8)

This is stupid....
The only thing wrong with your theory about youth football. You can not compare it to high school football. Kids develop at different stages. Who cares about what happened in 11 and 12 yr old pee wee football. HJ has a long way to go before they can consistantly compete for a playoff spot. Sounds to me y'all have a parent problem. Yes, he did the best he could with what he had to work with!!

Always puzzles me when people expect pee wee success to equate to varsity wins.
You guys are exactly right. You cant judge by their youth football career. But HJ lines up the incoming 7th graders in the locker room and tells them what position they will play by how they look and 99% of those kids are still playing that position in high school. So you professional football bloggers or experts tell me the difference between 6th and 7th grade so I will understand how this coach knows in the 7th grade that this kid will be a linebacker and this kid will be a running back by looking at his stature? In youth football, we judged kids by speed, aggressiveness, agility, knowledge, toughness etc. At HJ, we judge them by how they look, stature wise, in the 7th grade..... Remember your earlier quotes.......

14.
Good thing a certain Nederland Family took ole boy in,if not for them there would'nt be much of a chance for a baseball career. It would be nice if these players realized they have a great opportunity in life thru baseball & QUIT acting like JACKA***S over stupid stuff.
Now thats funny! You say that as if this kid doesnt have a family... C'mon dude, he throws 90 plus! There has always been a great chance for a baseball career and still is. We have all made a bad decision at one time or another, some of us more than others. Sign the paper and move on...
15. Hehehe...
16. Enrolled Tuesday, signed scholarship papers Tuesday night to play baseball at Weatherfod College. Dont see how the coach could stop him. He moved back in with his mother, established residency, and already signed his scholarship. No way UIL doesnt let him play... Ineligable for 2 weeks once residency is established, plus he played JV last year. Why would you not sign the paper?
17. Enrolled Tuesday.
18. Moved back in with his mother. UIL says 2 weeks...
19. Good luck from HJ!
20. This is huge for us HJ baseball folks... Solid pitcher, solid infielder, solid hitter... Glad he's home.
21. I think the camp thing is great. College coaches can tell (most of the time) from a kids height, weight, speed and strength how much potential a kid really has. They are there to win at what ever cost necessary. All districts are high school coaches "favorites" alot of times. To me, thats the best way to take the "who you know and who your daddy is" aspect out of the equasion, and get your kid seen. Last year Joe Person from HJ didnt even make all district but got a full ride to Lamar University. Wonder how many full rides were given out to the kids that did make it from that district? Anyway, my point being, If I were Tony Brown or his dad, I would not put too much stock in the "All District" picks, if he gets a scholarship, what does it matter? It hurts, but they get over it.
22. Who the hell is captainclaude?????
23.
Sr. year watching French from PA.  I remember when Anderson from Permian got flipped @the goal line from a vicious hit and all I could say was "here comes Mojo....."  French did their thing 2 football seasons before becoming Central....
I remenber that hit. Right before halftime, Greg Anderson caught a pass on about the 5 yardline and I believe Donnell Anderson our free safety almost cut him in half. It was vicious!
24. Here is a pic of me in the middle, left side is Rodenburg and right side #52 is Johnny Behannon our 155lb center. Our guys were fast and I believe what made us better in the post season was the turf. These guys were running 4.4's and 4.5's on a gravel track with clete's. When we hit that turf and out those turf shoes on, I think the quickness and speed jumped up a few notches. May be wrong but just my theory. [Hidden Content]
25. I played on that team. QB Mark Guilbeaux ran about a 4.4 40. When we spread it out, he had the whole field. Melvin Turner a 6'4" TE, Willie Williams WR, Kieth Wycoff WR all ran about 4.5 40's. So many good recievers to cover and Guilbeaux was soo fast and could throw the ball 60-65 yards in the air, just too much. Also had Paul Jones, great speed, and Robert Kiel (also Defensive player of the year that year at MLB) at RB. Both power runners, not alot of juking. I was probably 2nd largest offensive line at 220. Our center Johnny Behannon was about 155 lbs and guards Mike Rodenberg and Dale Jenkins went about 170 lbs. Very small line but we were all benching around 300 lbs. Also goes to show you how good the district was that year. Finis Vanover is just a great motivator and defensive style coach. Very aggressive. I can stll hear coach Steve Shaver's speeches before each of those games. Just awesome all the way around. I remember an interview with coach Vanover on the news that year, he said "its easy to coach defense in the North End of Beaumont, the aggression is already there". Derrick Wilson DE, Thad Nobles at nose guard were both benching around 400 lbs. We had a reunion for that team back in 2009. We called all 3 news channels, none showed up. Coach Vanover stood up in front of us and even as adults he was able to make all of us want to go to war for him. I think its a dimeanor that only certain coaches have and to this day and I believe he is one of the best. He took a bunch of kids that had never been anywhere or done anything and he and coach Shaver made us Champions. It says Co-Champions, but it has never felt that way to me.
