Just read in the Carthage paper (Panola Watchmen) Carthage will be missing many starters due to COVID. Coach Surratt said a lot of young players will be getting experience against a very good team. Coach Surratt said the Dawgs won’t play another team this year with the speed and said they are very athletic. He mentioned several of their players and how good they were. He said the Dawgs will playing both QB’S and said the Dawgs will have to play really good to win.

Look it up he is going to Oklahoma

You do make comments about Carthage every chance you get. you got butt hurt when the computer said Carthage would have beat Aledo 28 to 24 in 2019. The Dawgs o line averaged 318 pounds with 6’ 4” QB that threw over 40 touch downs. The Dawgs would not win most years against Aledo but 2008, 2017, 2019 and with last years O line and defense. My money would have been on the Dawgs. Your turn.

Last years 4 A state championship runner up to Argyle. Lindale never made a first down on the starting D in the scrimmage.
-
You might want to YouTube the Dawg defense from last year. They return 3 D linemen, 3 linebackers, one of which is a 5 star linebacker, 2 D backs add in number 20 and 80 that played in every game as relief players not back ups. The Dawg starters allowed 4 points a game.

No infatuation, just a lot of respect for Aledo tradition. Would love to see a non district game between the two power houses.
-
Marshall, whiteHouse, Jacksonville, we play 5A teams every year since coach Surratt has been at Carthage in non district games.
-
That is a dumb statement. Go back and watch the state championship games and make that statement again. Carthage O line in 2020 was better than Aledo, the defense was dang sure better. The 2017 team was better at almost every position. The Dawgs play 5 A teams all the time and beat them. Most years the Dawgs could not beat Aledo but compete with them, with out question.
-
In most years you would be right but dang sure not every year. 2008,, 2017, and 2020 would have been a toss up. 2021 remains to be seen especially with the defense the Dawgs put on the field this year.
-
No it would not, what would be nice is a non district game with Aledo. This year would have been a perfect year to play with the defense the Dawgs return to the field. Last year the starters allowed 4.5 points a game. I expect them to allow even fewer points per game this year. They will be bigger, stronger, and faster. The QB is 6ft 4 and 210 with an absolute cannon throwing to three returning starters. I think Crosby is going to be a great game for the Dawgs and give our QB great test.

Carthage gets accused of it all the time. Build a program, they will come.
-
Can’t wait for the Crosby and Carthage game. Should be a great game to watch. The Dawgs will be loaded again.

Who is your guys top linebackers for this upcoming season
Horton replied to Gocats90's topic in High School Football
Carthage will have all three linebackers back. Kip Louis will be one of the best in the state in any classification. He has 17 major DI offers and counting. USC, LSU, ND, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and many more. The Dawgs return 9 starters that allowed 4.5 points a game. -
Huffman should be the heavy favorite but the Dawgs will give them a great effort. Hatten is a super star for the Dawgs and his team mates can run the floor. Should be a good test for Huffman.

He did a great job at Tatum, three state championship games. Winning two of them. In 2005 Tatum was the smallest 3A program in the state and defeated the Largest (Hippos) 3A in the state. It didn’t hurt having 9 D1 players, two of them went on to the NFL. Great Christian man.

Here is a stat on the Daingerfield 83 Tigers. 560 offensive plays were run in 16 games against the Daingerfield defense for a grand total of 560 feet. That right folks, every time the ball was snapped, the defense gave up 12 inches. The greatest D of all time at any level. No one played both ways.
-
I was pulling for Crosby, what a great game and win. Next week we have David versus Goliath. Let’s Go Crosby. If you can defeat the giant it will give my Dawgs a chance next year to tie for most state championship titles. I believe we had Crosby on our schedule this year but COVID interfered. That would of been a great game.

Everyone will have there on opinion. I watched the WOS team win the state championship in 2016. That was the best defense I saw and ranked them right up there with the Katy Tigers a few years before that, but this years Dawgs played top ten teams in all but three games and dominated every one of them. They had 30 interceptions and many of the teams had minus yards rushing until the starters were pulled. They never played the starters for four quarters. Not even in the state championship game. Starters were pulled with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The offense was no different. They never played all four quarters in a single game. -

I don’t believe they played anybody that could fart until the 3rd round of the playoffs. the 2020 Dawgs played five teams out of the the first eight that were in the top ten in the state. your turn. -

WOS may not score one this Dawg D. The offense would light up the score board. This is one of the best teams in 4A history because of the defense. Gilmer was minus 5 yards in the second quarter and 35 yards total in the second half until the starters were pulled with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarters. -

You sure about that. you think They would hang 40 on this Dawg D. The starters only allowed, what 50 points in 14 games. -
Carthage vs Gilmer ***4A Div. II State Championship***
Horton replied to Crawford's topic in High School Football
Your are correct, the Dawg D may be better. They return 3 D linemen, all 3 linebackers, state champ defensive Most valuable player at one corner and Branden Wade at the other. Add in D lineman number 80 that played in every game with the starters. Did any one notice number 18 on the sidelines. 6ft 3 and 185 pound kid. The QB position will be a highly contested position. The JV and sophomore class have some very talented offensive linemen. The Dawgs will be in the hunt again with a defense that may not allow 50 points the entire year. -

This Dawg defense has to be one of the best all time in 4A football. Gilmer had 124 yards and 14 points in the first Quarter. They had zero points and minus -5 yards in the second quarter. 63 total yards and no points in the second half. WOS the chain gang Navasota in 2012 Dawgs 2017 and 2020 Daingerfield 1983 will never be touched Pittsburgh 1980 is in second place If anybody can name others, please do -

The Dawg defense this year is way better than Aledo defense, it would be one heck of a ball game. -

The Dawg defense has an opportunity to show the entire state just how really special they are on the biggest stage. I believe Kip 6ft 3in 195 pounds (number 5) we be one of the nations top linebackers by the end of his senior year. He is the heart of a defense that has totally dominated every team they have faced. The Dawg D line pounded Gilmer in the first meeting and had the QB running for his life. I believe Gilmer coaches will try and get the ball out of his hands a lot quicker when passing. The Dawg secondary have 23 interceptions because they play like wide receivers, always looking for the ball. They are special because they can fly and will hit like linebackers. The D linemen have a super fast first step when the ball is snapped and have put a lot of pressure on QB’s and running backs. The linebackers run sideline to sideline and they are angry when the get to the ball. Definitely the fastest defense the Dawgs have ever had. If The Dawg offense plays sound fundamental football they will win. Cannot turn the ball over multiple times against a very good Gilmer team. Dawgs win by 14 Lets Go Dawgs🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 God Bless coaches, players, and fans.
