  1. Per 247 Sports he had 8 D-1 offers including Indiana & Houston.
  2. #4 Johnson was the RB and is a SFA commit. #3 Ball (JR) is the Oregon commit. He played WR.
  3. Congrats PNG. Best of luck against SOC.
  4. Safe travels. I will return post game to extend congratulations or accept congratulations. Hoping for a hard fought clean game by both teams.
  5. 1. Correct 32 tds … Tigers are averaging 49.4 points a game. Lowest offensive output was 37 points in the first game against Tyler Legacy. 2. Potter is a pro style QB. He is a big young man 6’4”. Not sure if his weight, but would guess 225+. He is not a statute and can run if needed. But so far he has had the protection and other players to run the ball.
  6. Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716). The Tiger defense is solid and very quick. Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.
  7. How is the Nederland QB that was injured late in the game?
  8. Best of luck going forward Bulldogs … keep the faith in these young men!
  9. At half, the #1 & #2 teams from both districts are winning. Marshall is a talented team that is extremely underrated.
  10. Not the game I expected as a Tiger fan. There was great respect for District 8 and its top 5 teams coming from Texas High. Not surprised we have a lead, but how the Tiger defense has contained the Bulldog running game. As I mentioned in an earlier post, a neutral coach witnessing Texas High for the first time stated “Texas High has athletes all over the field”. We will see if Nederland can throw the ball. The clock is not their friend running the ball. Thomas is a talented back.
  11. Barry Norton does not currently coach at T-High. He is the Athletic Director at Birdville ISD in DFW Metroplex.
  12. Safe travels … plenty of hotels for your overnight stays.
  13. Intriguing matchup. I might be a District 7 Homer, but believe Marshall will be the victor.
  14. Huntsville , Patrick Mahomes has moved on.
  15. Be surprised if the outcome of this game is anyone other than PNG.
  16. I watched the Huntsville game and was impressed with the Nederland running back. I saw a nominal passing game, which was effective as a “surprise” element against a secondary focused on the run. IF Texas High gets a couple touchdown lead going in the 4th quarter, I question the ability of Nederland to come back against the Tiger secondary. If Nederland can keep it close, then who knows. Huntsville was also a run first team and had success against the Bulldog defense. How the Bulldogs deal with the Tiger wide open offense will be a test. Texas High averages over 500 yds per game which are evenly distributed between the run and pass. Tigers have three good running backs and don’t have one “go to” receiver. Key for the Tigers is to limit the number of explosive plays by #1 and stop several drives each half. No matter what, I suspect this will be a good first round challenge for both teams. It is understood that Nederland is not a normal 4 seed.
  17. Texas High is not a running offense. The Tiger offense is balanced with 50% coming from the run and 50% from the pass. They average north of 450 yds/game. Honestly if Nederland can shutdown THS’s offense, I will be quite surprised. Historically, our run defense has been our biggest weakness. But the Tiger defense is not soft. The story will be told on Friday at Grim.
  18. For the Nederland fans, I will give you the Texas High report. The game will be decided on the field and not on message boards. In my opinion, this is the best Tiger team since they won state in 2002. As mentioned earlier they have a well balanced offense that is 50/50 between pass and run. David Potter, QB, makes good decisions and has only thrown 1 INT. He holds an offer from SMU. The running attack is three headed. Javari Johnson (SR), starts at RB and has committed to SFA over 8 D1 offers. Tradarian Ball (JR) is the crown jewel of the offense. 247Sports ranks him as the #2 RB in next year’s class and #46 overall nationally. He has committed to Oregon. When he is not spelling Johnson, he is a receiver. The #3 RB is Ahmad Moore (JR). His yards have come primarily with 2nd team, but I don’t see a huge drop off when he is on the field. The receivers to the passing attack is not focused on one individual. The line has provided good pass protection and opening holes for the run. The defense has given up some points, but are solid. I would say their strength is their secondary. Overall they have very good team speed. As a retired visiting coach related after they watched Texas High … “ They have athletes all over the field”. Grim can be a difficult venue for opponents, especially after a 5 hour bus ride. Looking forward to Friday and safe travels to the Nederland fans.
  19. He was my MVP for Crosby versus any of your offensive players. He set the tone for your defense.
  20. Just a question …. Why would one fake an injury at the end of a two point conversion? Why diminish a great football game, where the kids from both sides left it all on the field? Cougars earned the win in a very clean sportsmanship game. As hard as both teams were playing, tempers could have easily gotten out of hand. Good luck going forward.
  21. Congrats to the Cougars. Gameball to #5 Cooper. Nice offense, but knew our offense was average. Road the back of our defense. Best of luck going forward.
  22. I hope he is okay. T-High coach said he was a special talent and he is the only one to really gash our defense.
  23. Who said folks don’t play defense in high school football. Heck of a first half.
  24. Safe travels to all and may the best team win. Obviously I hope the Tigers are the best. I return after the game to congratulate the Cougars on a fine season or horrors at the thought best of luck going forward. Thank you to those of you willing to discuss the game.
