  2. Danbury Vs Tarkington @ C.E. King on Monday night at 6:30
  3. 100% Wish we could have been a little more aggressive offensively but I get it, personnel always creates limitations. It’s easy to be a coach from the stands… haha!!! Coaches and the kids gave it their all and that’s all a community can ask for! The fact that the three most productive offensive players from last year didn’t return or contribute is a huge obstacle to overcome in a small school.
  4. 100% Clear as day on tape and right in front of the sideline judge. Even the coaches from Buna thought it was over, they tried to claim he was down to save their season and go figure call went their way. Just in general, another night of absolutely horrible reffing.
  5. So what happens if Tarkington beats Anahuac and Hardin beats Buna. By now everything is a possibility in this district. Then three teams with 2-4 records. Does Buna still win because they have the head to head vs Tarkington and Anahuac now?
  6. Yes and no. They graduated three starters and unfortunately they lost another starter to a moving to another state. Out of the kids returning, one kid started half the season last year and will be a senior this year. One returning starter from half of the district games and the playoffs. The other three kids starting will be Juniors returning from more sub roles from last year but this group has been playing together for a while and have a real feel for their roles. I definitely see where the skepticism is coming from. But I guarantee you anyone in the district and area know about this group. They've been playing good basketball since they were in 7th grade and had last years starting lineup not been so senior heavy, they would have had been more impactful last year. Also to justify going from third to first. Look at the top two teams from last year. New Waverly lost everyone from their varsity roster except maybe one kid who did not play much if I remember correctly. Their JV, barely beat our JV and our JV, well was missing ALL of these underclassmen that were already on varsity. Crockett, I probably have beat that dead horse. They lost maybe the best player of the district and two additional solid players. Maybe have a couple move ups from JV, but hard to step right in and make an impact if you haven't played Varsity basketball. Again, just my opinion.
  7. Noted. Just was giving my run down with a little more knowledge of what this district has/returns. The whole Crocket at #25 is what I questioned on the preseason rankings post. Just not sure that's very accurate. Not saying they won't be competitive, just doubt they deserve to be that high considering what they lost and from my understanding of what they are bringing back. Shepherd did make the playoffs but only on the heels of a total implosion by Coldspring, including losing their second best and biggest player to grades then fired their coach mid-district. Shepherd will return a pretty decent sized big with some skill, but by far their best player graduated. We both agree that Onalaska is on their way. They get the benefit of not losing kids to football and their coach pushes them hard. He's made a lot of progress there and my hats off to him for it. I just feel that Tarkington (call me a homer... haha) have the best chemistry and well rounded team coming into the season. Unfortunately they will be a little rusty coming from football so the first part of the season could be spent shaking off "football shape", but hopefully they will get in a groove early and only get better as the season progresses.
  8. I'm guessing that was a total shot in the dark. Shepherd is not good. Coldspring returns most of their starters from last year, including possibly the best player in the district. Anderson will actually be pretty good. Onalaska is definitely on their way up. Crockett lost their best 3 players. Tarkington is returning 7 kids from varsity last year including a starter and has played well all spring and summer long. My prediction. 1. Tarkington 2. Coldspring 3. Onalaska 4. Crockett 5. Anderson 6. Shepherd 7. Trinity 8. New Waverly
  9. If #4 is playing and he gets >15 touches, I'm taking Kirbyville. That kid is a gamechanger.
  10. Did OF and EC lose that many athletes? Bold statement IMO to make. I don’t doubt a freshman if you tell me he’s going to be good, but hinging a complete turnaround on him and/or kids that were there last year and didn’t make the playoffs to winning district is a big ask.
  11. I would agree with you, but curious as to how then they ranked a team that missed the playoffs last year over a district winner and a bunch of other teams that made deep runs into the playoffs.
  12. Crockett #25??? I don't think Crockett finishes in top 3 in District this year. Losing #2 will be a huge loss for them.

  16. 10/20 at Tarkington hmm rough basketball...in Tarkington? 2 rounds deep how many years in row now? Thanks for the insight, why is EC dropping random comments in a post about OF vs Tarkington? Thanks for stopping in and giving such meaningful conversation to the thread....
  17. For Tarkington, they got to figure out a way to not give up the big plays (i.e. better tackling and better pass coverage) and win the turnover battle. If they can do that, I think they can stay close enough to keep this one interesting. With their offense, falling behind, especially by more than one score, is almost unrecoverable.
  18. Apparently reading isn't a strong point of emphasis at LSU. I didn't say officiating lost the game. I actually said we were in it UNTIL we shot ourselves in the foot multiple times coming out of halftime. Then I merely commented on how bad the officiating was. So you're telling me that the OF corner didn't completely wrap up and drag the WR in the end zone or just outside of the end zone down before the ball reached him? Got great footage of it if you need it. You're telling me that on a drive where Tarkington was pushing the ball down the field that they didn't call a false start on Tarkington when nobody blew the whistle and the OF kid after the play was over and 5 yds were gained didn't absolutely blindside a kid after multiple whistles and the flag was thrown then they waived off the whole play so a +20 play turned into a -5 didn't happen???? Got plenty of game film if you need to see it, including where your coach pulled him off the field screaming at him because he thought he just got flagged. Just shoot me an email address, be glad to send it to you. Again, not the reason Tarkington lost, as I said "we have issues", turnovers and bad tackling at times are definitely at the top of that list. Edited version: I'll add to all that by saying that OF has a heck of a football team and my original response had nothing to do with them.. They have a couple of great athletes that made some great plays. I see them winning this district. I was only pointing out that Tarkington was doing their part for a half to give OF all they wanted and that, I just wished we could have stayed competitive throughout. I don't think the score was entirely indicative of how the Horns played.
  19. Good call! Guy who hasn’t seen a bit of game film. I guess you would know what it looks like since Kirbyville apparently manhandled you a few weeks ago… I’m guessing your team hasn’t seen the last of it either so I guess we’re in the same boat.
  20. Really wasn’t what Orangefield did to make it rough. More about how the Horns shot them selves in the foot multiple times. Fumbled kickoff turns into a touchdown. Pick 6 thrown right to a kid within about 6 mins of each other. Hard to keep pace with anybody with those kind of mistakes. On top of that we have got some of the worst officials I’ve ever seen this season. Last week inadvertent whistle causes a td to come back and turns into points for Hardin. This week, orangefield constantly playing after the whistle, one play particular, apparently a false start was called, no whistle blown though, then orangefield kid has such an egregious late hit that his coach pulls him and screams at him. The officials decide not to call it because the Horns had a false start so play was dead, yet no whistle until after the player is tackled…. No call PI in the end zone while receiver is getting wrapped up before his arms can even try to catch the ball. Not that we didn’t have our issues. We probably lose either way but y’all make it sound like we got manhandled and that was not the case.

  22. I would agree, historically Tarkington has been the better program. However, there was not only a lull in overall talent but also a coaching presence for multiple years in Tarkington. They literally had a person coach an entire season that had never coached a vollebyall game in her life one year thanks to Coach J leaving in August! Then hired a total fail as a coach for two additional years. Last year was Kennedy's first year and they at least returned to the playoffs. This year has been very up and down, but I can say that this group has a chance to win district or at least finish second and will move a round or two deep into the playoffs. They already beat Hardin this year as well. Also most of the varsity players will be returning and are already in club programs for the spring. Future is bright for the Horns!
