There may be a multitude of reasons that teams are playing in a particular tournament. For one, heard today that this tournament is completely free to the fans and teams. That’s probably attractive along with nice facilities and an actual up and down ref for every game. Especially if your school isn't backed by refineries or higher tax brackets. If you could, send us a list of your preferred tournaments so we can pass along to all these coaches. I can’t imagine why more teams aren’t going.

Tarkington continued their roller coaster play. Beat Porter fairly easily in first two sets then manage to lose two sets and fall 5 points behind in the 5th set only to comeback and win 15-13.

I don't know how much you actually know about this year's participants. But so far every team that Tarkington has played at KSA has been pretty good with quite a bit of size. Now tomorrow's teams don't appear to be near as tough. It appears they played the 3 best teams all today. Agreed their record doesn't look great but they have had some flashes of great play and the team has a lot of potential, just got to put it all together. Don't forget they start a freshman, a sophmore, 3 juniors and one senior. Not making excuses for them, if they want any hope of advancing in the playoffs they are going to have to gel and become more consistent VERY soon!

Huffman wins in 2 sets. Both pretty close games

They are definitely a scrappy bunch. Tarkington beat them 25-14 and then dropped two sets in a row. PNG beat them first set then dropped two straight also.

Tarkington might have something to say about that, but we like playing the role of the underdog. -
Tomorrow we will know a little bit more about a couple of local teams. Tarkington vs Crosby @ 950am Tarkington vs Dayton @ 1130am Tarkington vs Huffman @ 110pm I'm sure the other teams play each other as well but this is all I've seen regarding a schedule.

Stepp's 3A D1 Region III Outlook ($)
PrairieMan replied to Matthew328's topic in High School Football
I am serious. Their incoming Junior group is one of the more athletic groups to come through in a while. All of the difference makers saw considerable playing time as sophmores on varsity last year. The RB is a tough senior kid with some wheels! I know Taylor left but Belt provided stability in the transition. Do you have any actual knowledge of the program or the kids currently there? Just wondering how much of your opinion you can actually back up or if you're just throwing the yearly Tarkington sucks smoke out there. -

Ouch! Tarkington in last place in District 10. That's pretty tough. Especially considering they return something like 19/22 starters position wise and saw quite a bit of improvement from the previous season. I'm going to say they sneak into the playoffs as the #4 this year. -
Interesting news regarding Jasper and Newton

Are you talking about Legacy the School of Sports Sciences? It says their coach is Michael Bishop, is that the same Willis/KState Michael Bishop???? -
I'm interested to see how Tarkington looks going into Coach Kennedy's second year. His middle has put in a ton of work and I fully expect her to take District MVP honors. They return quite a few impact kids from last year and add a few from the lower ranks. I know one thing, these kids around here love Coach and I think he's got this program finally pointed back in the right direction.

100% agree. I had to edit as I completely read the school wrong…

They have a strong Freshman group. They will likely improve as the season goes on and be back near the top by next year.
