Shepherd graduate having a great season
casualobserver posted a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Former Shepherd QB, Zach Hubbard (jr.), son of former AD/HFC Donald Hubbard, is having a great season at Howard Payne University. Hubbard totalled 608 total yards of offense against Lousiana College last week in a thrilling 3 overtime loss. Hubbard accounted for 608 total yards while throwing 5 TD's, rushing for 1 TD and a two point conversion. He was named ASC co-Offensive player of the week and named to the d3football.com team of the week for his efforts. Hubbard broke two HPU records and one ASC record for offense in a game and most total yards. This was the best effort in DIII this year and the second best at all levels this year. He has a total of over 2500 yards thus far and has three remaining games to play. The last game will feature Zach against his brother, Seth Hubbard (redshirt freshman), who is the starting QB at East Texas Baptist University. -

Silsbee @ Diboll predictions
casualobserver replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
silsbee BIG! -
unfortunately for teams in district 23-1a, they are in the weakest district in the region...they will have good records because they are playing private schools and each others but then they hit reality when they get into the playoffs...i've heard talk about how evadale says how fast they are...they havent seen fast untill they wander north a little bit into east texas, its almost a different game outside of that district

Texas High School Football Preseason Top 40
casualobserver replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i dont put a whole lot of stock into this particular poll, sometimes its who you are not what you did or can do, for example in 3a Rusk went 3-6 but is ranked number 30, ahead of Mexia, who was 8-4, played gilmer pretty close in the playoffs and returns just about everybody -
Jasper schedule one of the toughest in the state!
casualobserver replied to WOS87's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
if Jasper can get the triple option clicking then they could be a team to be reckoned with, its hard to score points when your offense is standing on the sidelines, and the triple option is a great way to do that...3 yards and a cloud of dust (or turf pellets) -
Early Thoughts on Realignment?
casualobserver replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
you know i heard an interesting view about the UILs realignment...they start in west tx and work their way around the state, going wtx, to central, to dfw, to east, to setx, to SA...when you think about it what happens up in east tx, DFW really affects districts down in SETX for example...in 3a reg 3 you have 4 districts that really affect each other in alignment...D17 is, Bullard, Gilmer, Gladewater, Spring Hill, Tatum & Chapel Hill; D18 is Carthage, Center, Diboll, Huntington, Jasper and Rusk; D21 is BC, HF, OF, HJ, & WOS & D22 is Cleveland, Tarkington, Coldspring, Huffman, Liberty, Shepherd & Splendora; but you also have Lufkin Hudson and Pollock Central which do not play football that have to go in a district (18)...in SETX the districts are really affected by these 2 schools...if they played football these 4 districts would logically be D17 Bu, Gi, GL, SH, Ta, CH, Ca; D18, Ce, Di, Hu, Ru, LH, PC; D21 BC, HF, OF, HJ, WOS, Ja, and D22 would be the same...however they dont and UIL gets stuck having to pull teams to fill up D18, this is how Jasper has to go North these 2 yrs...and before that, Shepherd and Coldspring had to go with Sils, Buna, Jas, Kville...it doesnt make sense but the UIL is doing the best they can with what they have to work with also another major factor is the growth in the DFW area, several of schools in the past realignment were not 3a them moving up bumped several teams out of region 2 (pretty much the majority of D17 i believe)...so all in all regions 3 and 4 are really the regions with intersting aliginments due to its basically the UIL scraping the bottom of the barrel to "fill" districts so to speak...and really, i dont fancy taking the job of those held responsible for realignment -

The Slot t offense/CALDWELL RUNS IT WELL!
casualobserver replied to GUNHO's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
in response to someone asking who i thought was better between carthage and gilmer IMO carthage has been on a roll of late, starters did not play in 2nd half on any district ball games i do not believe, and last week was the most impressive first half ive seen, 62 pts in 24 minutes, dang...and you cant judge carthage on how they played early, their qb was battling injuries and it just had the offense in a funk, but that being said they have yet to be tested and im sure WO-S will be more than happy to pop them in the mouth a few times. gilmer is a talented club, dont get me wrong, they fly to ball on defense, and as always can throw up the points on offense. I think a gilmer carthage game could easily be 70 something to 60 something, if that tells you anything. -

casualobserver replied to GUNHO's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
just an interesting sidenote...last week the #1 rushing team in the NFL played the #1 rushing defense in the NFL, and we all know how that turned out. however, best of luck to WO-S, im looking forward to see how you guys will match up with the two best offenses in East Texas (Gilmer and Carthage) and ive seen both of them and carthage is scary good...possibly the best offense i have seen in my yrs of hs football knowledge. have 2 RB's that are dynamite, and can throw to any eligible receiver at anytime and have a big play possibilty. and did i mention that the o-line is quite possibly one of the best in Texas. Man im getting excited just thinking about this matchup, Big time O vs Big time D, it dont get any better -
Cleveland vs Rockdale
casualobserver replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
winner of this one gets a date with carthage. As for this week i would like to see cleveland win, so we could have one of the better 3a teams in SETX go against the best 3a team in DETX. -
Evadale vs Normangee 7:30 @ Jacksonville
casualobserver replied to whambulance's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
normangee beat a top ten ranked itasca team (or last time i checked they were). sounds like evadale needs to play ball control and head knockin defense. -
for those of you who havent figured it out and think evadale has a first round game...they dont, they have a bye they are already in the 2nd round...with that being said region 3 is loaded and i just dont think evadale has the talent to play with the likes of tenaha, mt. enterprise, maud, grapeland, cayuga, itasca etc
-
evadale will have a hard time getting out of their region, region 3 is just loaded

Kirbyville vs Corrigan Camden
casualobserver replied to nike09's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
not that i think this will happen and this may be a little to for north for you guys, but this game reminds me of the gilmer-liberty eylau game i believe 3 yrs ago. Gilmer had been steam rolling folks and ranked #1 and liberty-eylau was underrated and wound up beating them. now i dont think this will happen, but it could... -
haha yea im sure kilgores defense really isnt that good lol i wish the indians the best of luck i know one of the players
-
ive been watching carthage all year. They have one of the best offenses in the state. They have dismantled everyone in their district, i honestly do not believe the starters have played much in the 2nd half. They score points in just about every way you can think of. One of the most well rounded offensive teams i have seen in a while.
-
cleveland will lose when they play carthage in i believe round 3 if they make it that far.
