Angleton JV 34, Crosby 7 Final

Angleton may be without their best back who left Friday's game with an injury. It could definitely affect their offense. It's hard to replace somebody who averaged nearly 9 yards/carry. They need to clean up all the mistakes they made last week. Crosby usually plays better at home and this will probably be the same. So I would be happy with any win, even a 1 point win. It doesn't make too much difference whether you play College Station or Weiss since College Station only beat Weiss by 6 points. I guess your preference depends on whether you match up better against a run oriented team, College Station or a pass oriented team Weiss. Angleton has only played College Station once in 2015 in the 3rd round of the playoffs winning 38-22 against a heavy favorite. They went on to the 4th round and lost 36-35 in overtime to Ridge Point. Nobody thought they would get that far since they finished the regular season 5-5 which included a 34-0 loss to Crosby in Crosby. What about Crosby? They lost to the same team, Ridge Point in the 2nd round, 42-14. It's not how you start, but how you finish.

Simon, freshman RB for La Porte was amazing, over 300 yards I think I heard. Opponents may see him for 3 more years. Angleton probably only once more as Angleton will likely be 6A in 2026.

Angleton's best back Shockley injured early and never returned. Hope he will have a speedy recovery. Last year he missed most of the season with an injury.

Somebody, for whatever reason, wants to change the scores on Maxpreps Schedule page for Angleton's past games. At first it was just the Friendswood game and I sent in a correction twice which Maxpreps has to approve but they never did. Now he has changed that one and 3 more games. If you want to see the actual score, go to "box score" on the schedule page,choose "scoretracker" on the page that comes up, then scroll all the way down until you find "end of game" and the score you find there will be the correct one.

This game will be the second time Angleton has faced a wing-T this year, not in a game but in their 1st scrimmage. Unfortunately the opponent in that scrimmage, Cy Park is terrible, currently winless. That doesn't mean it was worthless. I'm sure they got some instruction then about how to stop the wing-T that they could build upon this week although the opponent will be far better.

These teams are the last remaining undefeated in district 11-5A1 and should be a great game. They haven't played each other since the late 90's, but the head coaches know each other well. Brittain at Angleton and Berneathy at La Porte were the DC and OC for Angleton in 2017 when Angleton reached the semifinals while in region 4 and lost that game to Manvel which mostly stifled their wing-T offense in a 35-10 loss. Both coaches graduated high school in 2002, Brittain was the leading tackler for a Sinton team that played in the state finals and Berneathy was a lineman for Galveston Ball. An odd twist is that the OC who Berneathy replaced in 2015, Stephen Dorr, replaced him when Berneathy left in 2018 to be a head coach at Dobie. I guess Dorr decided there is no place like Angleton. I know they were glad to have him back as he does a nice job. Both Brittain and Berneathy celebrated their 50th victory as HC 2 weeks ago on the same weekend. Angleton dropped the wing-T after the '19 season, then ran the spread for 4 years and now runs a multiple offense. They run from 1,2 and 3-back sets. The 3-back formation which looked strange to me the first time I saw it is the T formation, the oldest formation in football so a source tells me. Like the wing-T, the backs line up in a 3-point stance. They are right behind the QB who takes a direct snap. It's mostly a running formation, but Angleton does pass out of it. At other times they line up in the shotgun and I have seen them in the I-formation at other times. Angleton's QB, Bryce Duron, has been very good. He played WR on varsity his freshman and sophomore season and they decided to switch him to QB this season after he played a few plays at QB last year. Being an ex WR, he can run like the wind when needed, He was such a good WR that I hated to see him leave that position, but it has worked out. This game will be streamed on NFHS,

With Angleton playing on Thursday against Kempner, their coaches will have the opportunity to attend this game on Friday and scout both of their remaining opponents at one time. How convenient!

!!:17/49/F Angleton had a hard time putting K Park away in the 1st half than expected. Eventually they wore them out. K Park was trying to play guys both ways.

Not as bad as some HISD teams. They beat Houston Austin 56-0 in their 1st game.

They must be feeling a little edgy in Deer Park. A few weeks ago, a motorist crashed through a fence and started a pipeline fire when he hit a valve and it burned for several days.

Angleton JV 60, Friendswood 0 Something you rarely see, Angleton scored 2 safeties. Now if their varsity would only be that easy.... Maybe they sent out the B team?
