Jerry Jones named Executive of the Year
Ty Cobb replied to Ty Cobb's topic in Professional Sports- NFL, NBA, MLB, Etc
Here is one example of why Jerry Jones won this award: The Cowboys didn't want to keep DeMarcus Ware with a $16 million salary-cap figure. They weren't willing to offer Ware a smaller deal. They thought his best days were behind him. The Denver Broncos quickly scooped up Ware with a three-year, $30 million deal with $20 million guaranteed. Ware had a cap figure of $9.666 million in 2014 and had 10 sacks. The Cowboys went with the numbers' approach in replacing Ware. They signed Jeremy Mincey to a two-year deal. They kept Anthony Spencer on a one-year deal. Combined with George Selvie, they combined to count $3.771 million against the cap and combined for 9.5 sacks. So it was basically the same production at nearly $6 million in savings. In theory, the Cowboys were able to allocate dollars elsewhere, like locking up Tyron Smith to a long-term deal. Whenever a team thinks it's one player away from a Super Bowl, they make a mistake. Charles Haley was more the exception than the rule when the Cowboys traded for him, but that also came before the salary cap. -
Yep, very overrated defense. No pass rush and the pack runnining it right down their throats!!!

This game is showing how good Tony Romo is. Wilson can't even fart right against green bay. Damn I wish the COWBOYS were playing!!!

Jerry Jones named Executive of the Year

I hope Murray goes to an AFC team if he leaves the COWBOYS. -
IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys’ success has helped benefit the players and coaches. And now it extends to owner and general manager Jerry Jones -- and not in a business sense. Jones was named the NFL Executive of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America on Thursday, the first time he has been so honored by the group. The Cowboys finished 12-4 and won their first playoff game since 2009 this season. The moves made in the offseason helped direct them to an NFC East title. It started with the decisions to say goodbye to long-time players DeMarcus Wareand Miles Austin, in salary-cap moves. The Cowboys passed on a big-money offer to Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jason Hatcher and brought in low-cost free agents like Jeremy Mincey, Henry Melton and Terrell McClain. Jones was able to talk Rolando McClain out of retirement and worked a trade with the Baltimore Ravens, giving up what turned out to be a 2015 sixth rounder for the linebacker as well as the Ravens’ seventh rounder. The Cowboys added players like C.J. Spillman and Jack Crawford after the final cuts that made significant contributions. But the best move Jones made might have been the one he initially regretted the most. With the 16th overall pick in the first round the Cowboys took guard Zack Martin even though Jones had an infatuation with quarterback Johnny Manziel. Martin started every game, was named to the Pro Bowl and became the first Cowboys’ rookie since 1969 to be named All-Pro. Martin became the third first-round pick the Cowboys used on an offensive lineman since 2011, joining Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick.

So does this: The Washington Redskins have hired former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Bill Callahan, according to league sources. Callahan's title is offensive line coach. He received a lucrative three-year contract, the sources said.

Everyone on the list above is unrestricted.
-
DALLAS COWBOYS: Dez Bryant- WR DeMarco Murray- RB Jermy Parnell- RT Doug Free- RT (Free has two voidable years left on his contract which will void sometime before free agency opens.) Bruce Carter- OLB Justin Durant- OLB Anthony Spencer- DE Rolando McClain- ILB George Selvie- DE Nick Hayden- DT Dwayne Harris- WR/KR Sterling Moore- CB Tyler Clutts- FB C.J. Spillman- S Tony Hills- LT Cameron Lawrence - LB Please add to the list if I have left anyone off.

I just don't know if they can afford to sign Murray. Dez is going to get a contract for sure, and the COWBOYS have a long list of free agents to sign. This is going to be a lot like the DeMarcus Ware situation. I just don't want to see them get into salary cap jail like they have been.

I'm just the opposite, Seattle and new england.

This is going to go on and on. How about this, someone start a thread that is about the COWBOYS and the houston franchise and we will continue. If u guys are not fans of that other franchise then I apologize. Thought I saw a few comments about hoping the COWBOYS lose and cheering for anyone that plays the COWBOYS.

I agree. My best friend is a Bronco fan so I try to keep up with them. Manning just looked "old" the last few weeks.

3 years worth. Just to name a few: Darren Woodson, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Larry Allen.
Jimmy Johnson was the coach, not the GM. Just like every coach that has come after Jimmy Johnson. Why does Jimmy get all the credit and no blame for those early 90's teams? Why does Jerry get all the blame and no credit for all the quality players since then?
-
Come on man!!! Inferiority? You guys bring the houston franchise in as soon as you start rooting against the COWBOYS just because you are fans of that other franchise
-
3 years worth. Just to name a few: Darren Woodson, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Larry Allen.
-
Who was the GM during that time? Jerry Jones. The same GM that is still with the COWBOYS. Why does he get no credit for those teams but all the blame? Let's get back to your favorite franchise. Who was/is the GM in all those houston Super Bowls and playoff wins? Oh wait, they have none!!!
-
I think your right. He can't move and his arm looks dead or tired.
-
I've heard this argument so many times. Is Zack Martin a pro bowler? Is Zack Martin an All-Pro? YES he is. Which GM drafted him? Jerry Jones!!! I could go on and on with quality draft picks by Jerry Jones but u don't want to hear it. DALLAS COWBOYS have 5 Super Bowls, 3 came with Jerry Jones as the owner. The houston franchise has ZERO!!! I guess they have better GM's and better coaches?
-
That's your comeback? That's what you want to hang your hat on? Just as bad as the houston franchise.
-
I thought u would say something like that. Why stop at 20 years? Why not go back a little farther and find those 5 Super Bowls? Hell, the COWBOYS have lost more playoff games than the houston franchise has been in.
-
I'm with u on that. It's almost like he's a pitcher and his arm is tired or sore.
