Rumor has it that there are a couple of coaches on staff already who have applied for the job. One coach who has been there for a few years and doesn't care about the kids or the program. He just wants a paycheck and can't wait until practices and games are over every day. Hopefully the board, commitee, and superintendant will make the right choice for the program or HJ will be looking for another coach in a year because he will be tired of actually having to work!
I would really like to know which coach this is?

This is not a contest between the Aggies/Longhorns or texans/COWBOYS. This is about Texas high school football. As I have stated, there is nothing that says, "Texas football" quite like the COWBOYS and Longhorns. Sure, the Aggies and texans are hot right now and that's great, but they are not the first teams that you think about when you say "Texas football". -

Sorry guys, when I hear "TEXAS football", Houston and San Antonio just do not pop into my head. I have nothing against these two cities, just don't think about them when I talk about football. Here are a couple of examples of what I'm trying to say: [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] The University of Texas and the DALLAS COWBOYS dominate the state of Texas on these maps. Why, because these are the two teams that people think about when they hear, "Texas football". -

I hope it stays in Arlington forever. If it has to move, move it to the University of Texas. There is nothing that says, "TEXAS football" better than the COWBOYS and Longhorns!!! -
Blake Chavis lefy because he called coach Woodard out on his bs coaching. Its amazing how Oden could pass all his classes at Arkansas but couldn't pass at Lamar. Jeremy Johnson was promised the QB job Woodard didn't keep his promise. Garrett was not on a full scholarship.
So you are basing your statement of, "all the talented kids are leaving the program" on the following: 1. On a person who left Texas A&M, transfered to Lamar and during his senior season called out Coach Woodard on his coaching style. Why did he leave Texas A&M? Did he call out Coach Sumlin also? 2. On a person who passed classes at Arkansas but couldn't pass at Lamar. Where did this Mr. Oden go to after he left Lamar? 3. On a QB that was promised the job, but for whatever reason, couldn't keep the starting job. We all know he left and went JC. 4. On a student athlete who was not on full scholarship. Where did Mr. partial scholarship go after Lamar? Please understand that I DO NOT support Lamar. I actually root against them from time-to-time. I'm a Sam Houston State Bearkat!!! However, I do follow athletes from SETX and your claims are terrible and have no substance.

Someone mentioned theyd love to see the WOS head coach or the PAM head coach apply fot the job after Woodard is let go and i agree im sure those two would run laps around Woodard when it comes to coaching
Can you give me a couple examples of, "all the talented kids leaving the program"? I'm not aware of any talent leaving the program, except for graduating seniors. And, where is all of this talent going?
Blake Chavis (A&M signee out of highschool) Greg Odens younger brother I cant think of his name right now, Jeremy Johnson (WVU out of highschool) Depauldrick Garrett left the program because Woodard wouldn't give him a full scholarship, Lamar signed a kid out of juco that had a USC off out of highschool he left the program. And there are more I could go on and on.
Ok, let me get this straight. Partial scholarships don't count, only full scholarships will satisfy you. You listed a few names that left the program. Where did these guys go after they left? I know for a fact that Jeremy Johnson left West Virginia because they wanted him to play a different position besides QB. He came to Lamar, was given an opportunity to play QB, then left when he wasn't the starter. I think he enrolled at Blinn JC in order to play QB. So he went from an FBS school, to a FCS school, to a JC. You said Depauldrick Garrett left becuase he didn't get a full scholarship. Where did he go after Lamar? Same question for Blake Chavis. He signed with Texas A&M, then transfered to Lamar. Did he leave Lamar and go elsewhere? If he did, where did he go? According to the Lamar 2012 roster, Blake Chavis was a senior last season. Does that mean he graduated from Lamar?

This is actually the 2012 Lamar roster. (I took the seniors off the list, since they will not be playing in 2013, so you will not see them.) Also each player's classification will be higher for the 2013 season. In other words if this list says they are a freshman, they will be a sophomore for the 2013 season. Also, I do not have the new group of players on this list. However, according to the Lamar football website, there are 20 new players coming in and 3 have SETX ties. Records from an anti-aging clinic in Miami list the names of prominent baseball players -- including Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera and Gio Gonzalez -- and detail performance-enhancing drugs administered to them and others, according to a report Tuesday by the Miami New Times. The names were on records Miami New Times said were given to them by an employee who worked at Biogenesis of America before it closed last month. Miami New Times reported that the records show the firm sold performance-enhancing drugs, including human growth hormone, testosterone and anabolic steroids. Anthony Bosch, the 49-year-old head of the clinic, was connected to Manny Ramirez when the former MLB star was suspended for 50 games for violating baseball's drug policy in 2009. Bosch has never been charged by local or federal officials. Olney: Yanks done with A-Rod? OlneyAlex Rodriguez has admitted to PED use from 2001-03, but he's now stuck in another drug controversy, writes Buster Olney. Blog Insider Miami New Times said it conducted a three-month investigation before releasing its 5,400-word story online on Tuesday. Saturday, ESPN's Outside The Lines reported that Major League Baseball was investigating multiple wellness clinics in South Florida, as well as individuals with potential ties to players. The report said that the area from Boca Raton to Miami is "ground zero" for performance-enhancing drugs still filtering into the game. Rodriguez, the New York Yankees slugger who ended 2012 injured and on the bench during the playoffs, has admitted to using steroids from 2001-03, but he has said he has not used PEDs since. The New Times report said that Rodriguez's name shows up 16 times in the records it reviewed. One record, which the newspaper reported was part of Bosch's private notebooks, indicated Rodriguez paid Bosch $3,500 for "1.5/1.5 HGH (sports perf.), creams test., glut., MIC, supplement, sports perf. Diet." HGH is banned by MLB. There are other notations for Rodriguez as well, beginning in 2009 and continuing through last season. The New Times reports that other drugs listed for Rodriguez include IGF-1, a banned substance that stimulates insulin production and muscle growth, GHRP, a substance that releases growth hormones and testosterone creams. Rodriguez had hip surgery last month and is expected to miss some or all of the 2013 season. Miami New Times reported that Cabrera, who signed a $16 million free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays during the offseason, is mentioned 14 times in the report. He was suspended last August for violating baseball's performance enhancing drugs policy while a member of the San Francisco Giants. The paper cited entries last April indicating Cabrera "has enough meds until May 4" and indicating what the paper terms a "cocktail of drugs including IGF-1." According to the report, Bosch openly bragged of supplying drugs to Rodriguez. Major League Baseball issued a lengthy statement Tuesday in response to the New Times story. "We are always extremely disappointed to learn of potential links between players and the use of performance-enhancing substances," the statement begins. "These developments, however, provide evidence of the comprehensive nature of our anti-drug efforts. Through our Department of Investigations, we have been actively involved in the issues in South Florida. It is also important to note that three of the players allegedly involved have already been disciplined under the Joint Drug Program." The statement added that MLB has implemented many recommendations of the Mitchell report and feels that it's Department of Investigations in conjunction with local and federal law enforcement has made great strides in policing the game. Before adding that the investigation is ongoing and the league won't comment further, the statement did say: "We remain fully committed to following all leads and seeking the appropriate outcomes for all those who use, purchase and are involved in the distribution of banned substances, which have no place in our game." Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers has not been disciplined for PED use by the league; however, he is listed on a July 2012 record, with a notation from Bosch that "need to call him, go Thur. to Texas, take meds from April 5-May 5, will owe him troches and∧ will infuse them in May." Troches, according to Bosch's notes, are a type of drug lozenge which Miami New Times said includes testosterone. The Rangers issued a statement Tuesday, saying: "The Texas Rangers were contacted late last week by Miami New Times regarding the story posted this morning. At that time, the Rangers contacted Major League Baseball on that inquiry. The team has no further comment." Gio Gonzalez, the Washington Nationals left-hander who led the league with 21 wins last season and was third in Cy Young voting, appears five times, including one charge for $1,000. His father also appears, but he told Miami New Times that he was there to lose weight and that his son is "as clean as apple pie." "And if I knew he was doing these things with steroids, do you think I'd be dumb enough to go there?" he said, according to the New Times. Pitcher Bartolo Colon was suspended last season for violating baseball's performance-enhancing drug rules. Bosch, in his notes, says Colon's monthly fee was $3,000, according to Miami New Times. Other names listed in the records obtained by Miami New Times include Cesar Carrillo, a former University of Miami pitcher, Jimmy Goins, the strength and conditioning coach at Miami for nine seasons, Cuban boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa and professional tennis player Wayne Odesnik, who was banned from tennis for two years in 2010 for allegedly trying to bring HGH into Australia. The New Times reported that it sent detailed letters to all of the people to be named in its story asking for comment, but none responded. On Jan. 27, Bosch told the New Times: "I can't really say anything to you," and added that his attorney would be in touch. According to the report, the former secretary for Biogenesis said there shouldn't be any question as to what athletes were looking for from Bosch. "He sold HGH and steroids," the person said, according to the New Times. "Everyone who worked there knew that was what our business was."

BC will get a spot and then there will be a dogfight for the other two spots. Same as every year in 21-3A.

How many of the players on Lamar's roster are walk-ons? I don't know if there is a way for us to find this information without talking directly to one of the coaches, but I'm willing to bet the number is very low. I'm going to go with 5% or less. (I may be wrong but I bet it's not much higher if I am)

Wow, I can't believe what I'm reading. Do you guys really think that Lamar should sign players just because they live and played high school football in SE Texas? I promise you everyone that plays in SE Texas is NOT college football material. There are some very good players that come from this area but that doesn't mean they are good enough to play college football, or maybe they are good enough to play college ball but they don't fit Lamar's scheme. Raiderblue, you said the following, "We have great home grown talent and can't get these yo yo's to sign them." Are you joking? Here's Lamar's 2012 roster.
Thats the problem with people these days they always blame coaching when they have no clue what it takes. Maybe he did do a bad job but it didnt cost the kid a scholarship cause he signed with Lamar. If you have the talent, work ethic, and attitude for college ball, like Mitchell does, they will find you. Galveston Ball went 0-10 and Johhny Evans just started every game for Texas A&M as a freshman, his coaches didn't hold him back despite not winning a game. If a kid doesnt get recruited to play college ball it just means that kid isn't good enough to play college ball, plain and simple. Coaches dont get kids scholarships; talent, hard work, and effort gets kids scholarships. I'm just telling you what a college coach that recruits this area told me point blank, but I'm sure you know more than he does right. You are alot more qualified because you have a setxsports profile and post a comment.
This may be the best post that I have ever read on this forum!!! Here's a little positive Karma for you, Highpoint96. :) -
Because it's a beautiful game with hundreds of individual battles that ultimately make a team win or lose.

NEWTON VS. CAMERON YOE BROADCAST/Yoe advances 39-22
Ty Cobb replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I knew this would be a good ballgame. Congrats to the CAMERON YOEMEN and good luck in COWBOYS stadium!!! Hopefully the outcome will be a little different than the 2010 state championship game against Daingerfield. -
I really don't know what to think just yet. I hate the fact that Michael Young is gone but it had to happen sometime. I have said multiple times in the past that the RANGERS has the most feared line-up in baseball. This is no longer true with Napoli, Young and Hamilton gone. I'm not sure what they are going to do to replace these guys but it will darn sure look different.

Newton vs Cameron Yoe in the semi finals
This late in the season, home-field advantage doesn't matter much. Although I seriously doubt any of these class 2A teams will put 5000 on either side. Considering the average combined attendance for the class 2A state CHAMPIONSHIP games is only around 6500. And that's including coaches that attend and fans from around the state. Now about the game. "cock"...you're very naive and not too bright if you are overlooking this Newton team. Marion, Lago Vista, and Hallettsville?? And we've played chumps? Lol 28, 24, and 19. Yoe's margins of victory in the playoffs. 51, 41, and 36. Newton's margins of victory in the playoffs. In fact, Newton scored more points in their lowest scoring game than Yoe scored in their highest. Yoe is a good football team. But I hope everyone in Cameron has the same attitude you do. If that's true, then there will be a lot of unhappy Yoemen driving back to Cameron Friday night. Newton 63 Cameron Yoe 35
In the 2010 state game there were over 5000 fans on the Cameron side of Mansfield's stadium. Dangierfield's side was about 1/2 full. It might not be exactly 5000 this Friday night but I promise you the YOEMEN, and their fans, travel very well. Get ready to see a sea of maroon and GO YOE!!! -
Newton vs Cameron Yoe in the semi finals
Ty Cobb replied to ChampionEagles's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Come on guys, don't let one person come on here and mess this entire thread up. Here's what most people know. Newton is a very good team. Cameron is a very good team. They are both in the semi-finals for goodness sake. These two schools have very good football programs year in and year out. And there is a little history between these two programs that date as far back as the early to mid 70's and as recent as 2010. It should be a great game and I think the winner of this game will be the favorite to win the state title. I hope both teams come out injury free and Go Big YOE!!! -

Will be pulling for the Cameron Yoemen. Should be a very good game and get ready for a great crowd. There will be at least 5000 people wearing Maroon at this game. -

Both teams must get past Halletsville and Franklin respectively. Hopefully in 1 more week, we can let them settle it on the field. And I hope it's somewhere in the Huntsville area!!
I would love to see Cameron vs Newton at Bowers Stadium in Huntsvegas!!!
Bowers Stadium would be great. However, we won't know for sure until maybe Sat night if that stadium will be available. Sammy U has a chance to host a playoff game if they win Friday night in Montana and E. Wash loses on Sat.
In that case I hope the BEARKATS are playing a home playoff game.
