LOL!!!! ;D

Fake punts have a place in ones game plan. If it works, your a genius. If it doesn't, well. The problem I have with this one is that it was on Ned's own 28 yard line. Meaning a failed attempt -- and it was -- would be more disastrous then if it would have been closer to the 50 yard line. I think this was a bad coaching mistake on the HC's part. Now to offenses: The problem with everyone going to the same offense assumes that every OC can coach this type of offense. I'm not sure I hold with the philosophy that all coaches can coach every offense there is. IMHO.
Smitty, You give such easy questions. 1. Fake punt - why? easy, coaches call, maybe he saw something on game film that gave him reason to try and pull it off, this time it didn't work, next time maybe it does, remember it did work at the last home game. Why did the Saints kick an on-side in the super bowl after half time. That too was the coaches call, one that worked. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. our coaches record shows that the calls he makes usually are right. To dawgnut 1. Take away two long runs and our DC throws a shutdown defensive scheme. By the way those two long runs came after our starting linebacker was hurt. Before then we held them to an average of 3.2 yards per carry. 3.2 yards per carry for 56 carries. Seems to me they had a good scheme planned for two weeks. All that with the only player on defense, (sonnier), who could have ran down the Vidor running back on the sidelines in dress clothes. That wasn't their fastest back running those long runs either.... 2. Old offense vs. new offense - either offense you gotta have players make the plays. you can't have missed assignments, missed routes, give up on blocking assignment too soon, etc.... I prefer the old Nederland offense but the trend is the spread nowadays. Bottom line - game plan is there to win, players make it happen... Again, answer to smitty - Yes Nederland can still make the top four!

I believe Nederland's HC thought the Dogs were on Vidor's 28, not their own 28.
"newbie" - Means anyone that is just getting started on this forum. ;D

This forum must not be too bad, newbie, you're on here looking at it!
It may have just been poor coaching/clock management, but from the stands what I saw was more troubling. It looked to me like the coaches quit on the boys. On both the 3rd and 4th down plays that ended Nederland's offensive night, there were potential pass interference penalties right along the Nederland sidelines. I expected the Nederland coaches to be going nuts. They weren't. I'm sure they said something, but there was clearly no passion. That, coupled with leaving the 3 TOs on the board, makes me concerned that the coaches gave up. I hope that isn't what happened because the kids never gave up.
These forums crack me up.....on this board, fans are upset becuase they "expected the Nederland coaches to be going nuts" and over on the Barbers Hill board, they are complaining because the coaches were going nuts. Its funny that on every board, when a team loses, it is always the coaches fault. They should have passed more if they ran the ball, they should have run the ball more if they passed, it was the refs faults, etc, etc.... More times than not, the team with the best athletes wins (IMO). Maybe this year, Vidor is just a little more athletic than Nederland (I don't know, because I have never seen either play). But I think history proves the coaching ability of the Nederland staff. I mean, I don't remember the last year that Nederland was not in the playoffs.

newbie ???
Curious about the fake punt on Nederland's own 28 yard line. Anyone care to offer an explanation? I'm a firm believer in taking chances. But from my own 28? Strange. Would love to hear others take on this.

I do. But I am also a realist. I don't believe you make things better by constantly ignoring what's wrong. That goes for any aspect in life. Don't you think?! I'll give you people something else to think about: Maybe the OC can't run this type of offense. Maybe he's better at the old offense they ran. I'm not sure I like this monkey-see, monkey-do mentality. Katy, and Livingston proved what a good ground-oriented offense can do. Much like Nederland use to run, until they thought this was better. Just thinking out loud here. Any thoughts?
Smitty do you still support the team?I assumed you were a Ned fan.
WOW! 322 yards rushing given up by Nederland's defense to Vidor! OUCH!! Again, the main question here: Can Nederland be in the top 4? ???
-
Purely looking at what has happened so far, PN-G could win big. I doubt Nederland can stop PN-G's offense. And it looks like PN-G's defense, while lacking some-what, might be able to control Nederland's offense. If Vidor could control it I think at this point PN-G can as well. IMHO.

I like common sense post. Common sense if rare around these parts. :D

all i will do is repeat my earlier post: it is alot easier to coach from the stands after you see the result of the play than it is to call the play on the field. Remember, coaching is their job, they get paid to coach because they know what they are doing (except Wade Phillips and Jason Garret).
That only goes so far vp.. I would never condone a fake punt on 4th and 7.. And I would definitely go for a 4th and inches (qb sneak) EVERYTIME, when my line outweighs their line by 50-100 lbs a player.. I'm not being a second guesser here.. I'm being a first guesser.. its just common sense stuff.. Not coaching..
