1. It doesn't make the district championship a joke, it makes what the playoffs are supposed to be about a joke.
The UIL made the decision to add a 4th team.   If a team's record is better than the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th team in district, then by rule, the team has earned the right to advance to the playoffs, nothing was given to Little Johnny because by UIL rules, his team qualified.   Again, how does having 4 teams qualify for the playoffs take anything away from the district winner?   They won district by beating playoff bound/non-playoff bound teams and get the number one seed regardless of how many other teams go. Number of teams going in no way takes the luster off a district championship.
2. Without earning it?  Interesting!

This gets brought up every year.  And it seems that some people just don't get it.  The bottom line is, it is about the KIDS.  The more kids involved the better, and its not just about the football team, you have the drill team, band, cheerleaders, etc, etc, and etc.  And if a fourth place team ever wins a state title, by god they deserve it.  Now I have said my peace. Later..... :) :)
Well said jimbob82.  It's about the KIDS and they should ALL get to experience the playoffs!
3. Then why not make a total farce out of it and let all the teams go.  This way the team that is 0-10, their players, band, students can feel good about themselves also.
4. The playoffs are/were meant to be a reward for a job well done.  A 3-7 team is not, to me, an accomplished season.  But, a 4th taking out a 1st, well, I'm sure that happens a very, very few times. But if it doesn't hurt anything, why not let them all go?  Why stop at 4?  Like I said, it used to mean something, now it's just a joke.
What doe it really hurt? What if it's a strong district, and the 4th place can take out the first place in another distirct? Shouldn't they get a chance at the playoffs?  I'm from a 3A school..so it doesn't affect me...I'm just wondering.
5. I would really like to do a study of how well all 4th place teams did in the playoffs this year.  Then send the results to the UIL and see what they have to say.  Also, I would ask them why they insisted on an inclusion of a 4th team in general and why was it important to make the once great playoff system a joke.  Curious to what their response would be.
 6. Let's broaden it a little:  Not many 4th place teams has ever done much in the playoffs.  This just proves the folly of, and cheapens, the the playoffs.
 7. OK, this year.  Now what is your answer?

Talking about this year, my friend.  You have an answer to the actual question?
Last year Sulphur Springs was a 4th place team and ask Dayton how they did.

How about saying "this year" in your original question then?  What a novel idea.
9. Sounds like you have a problem with someone asking questions!  ???  ???  ???
NO! So why is everybody so upset about 4 playoff teams???????
10. Any 4th place finishers in district make it to or won a State Championship?
 11. Amazing!  How about a lasting education.
at least the district is actually spending the funds on something that will last for years to come.
12. But, if it is as you say, then give that money back to the tax payers.  What a novel approach.
Money is NOT the reason for low performance! Just ask North Forest ISD. You can give these kids laptops and other educational materials, but if they don't care, it won't help.
14. If the price is right, anyone would leave.
Whoever thinks (hopes is more like it) that Faircloth will be gone soon needs to use some logic, it works better than wishful thinking.
15. Sounds like the coach of the year was a little home cooking (PA ties).  Any others, no doubt, would have selected the PN-G coach for this honor.  IMO.

It's been a problem for many years.  With the exception of around 98, maybe 99, through 03 or 04, the defense has had problems.  The same problems existed when DeRouren was HC.  What's the common denominator?  Everyone knows my solution.  Trust me, you make this change and "D" stats improve 1,000%. I'm not talking about a total change, but some change is good.  Just look at PN-G.

18. It must of been the beat of a different drum.  ;D

 20. We tend to forget the years previous to 99, all the way through DeRouren that has a common denominator.  The years after 04 is just more of the same that was prior to 99.  Just my opinion. Sure there will be times that people will have a streak of good luck.  But you must realize: anyone can win when you have 11 horses on offense and defense.  But has Nederland not had any talent prior to and after the periods mentioned to have dominating defense's?  I say opportunity has been there through out the years.  Again our kids are no different than any in our district.   But the bottom line is: is Neumann satisfied?  This is his call.  But personally, I feel we'll be having this same discussion every year until...   But, but, if we are still discussing this in 4 years, this brings another topic.  And I think you all know what that might be... PS - Bru, good to hear from you.

This "D" problem didn't start three years ago. I'm not talking about a total change, but some change is good.  Just look at PN-G.   So out of the last 13 years, Nederland has had 8 dominating defenses (97 starting with Brisendine... to 04 ending with D. Smith/Mohica) and 5 that weren't very good, granted they've been the last five, but your arguement is pretty weak with the "with the exception of 8 straight years" comment.  That one had me scratchin my head.  I can see  that we haven't been good on defense for the past five years, so can everybody else, but for the previous 8, we were DOMINATING on defense, we won with defense and a nasty running game.  Your indictment has some holes in it.  Just my opinion. I do hope we figure it out, but I'd rather figure out what was going on in those 8 years.  James/Out/GTJ have their thoughts, and I would tend to agree with them.
D-limemen that don't get pushed around?
Look, everyone wants to hammer Smitty for basically speaking the truth. As a life long Bulldog fan, I have seen the defense go into the tank over the last three years and anyone who disagrees with that statement has not been going to the games. I am not on here to bash the D coord, I am not bashing the kids, I am not bashing anyone but the facts are facts. However, I do beleive that the Dogs will turn it around starting next year. They have alot of good athletes coming down the pipe.
22. I have seen the replay.  What you must understand, I never blame the kids.
No Smitty the stats were correct. But, the problem wasnt the scheme, we were simply outmanned. I guess with you not being there you missed that. You missed a good game.  ;)
23. I couldn't make it.  I had to work.  Why?  Were Crosby's offensive stats I seen in the paper wrong?
Smitty, did you go to the game?
24. It was such a strange statement.  Maybe I misunderstood. As for as your statement:  I'll criticize until they get the defense corrected.  We'll keep an eye on the HC and see what he does about it.  He CAN'T be satisfied, or can he?  What say you? Seems like after 34 carries, 223 yds and 5 TD's, someone would have noticed Evans was getting the ball and not Merka.
There defense was set up to stop Merka, thats why Evans had so many touches..Merka had no carries in 2nd half..
