1. Wrong again!  I have acknowledged those years often.  I'll just have to check on the 03 and 04 years.  I've said those years are the exception, not the rule!  We are back to what we had under DeRouen, before '97 and after '02 or '04.  Care to discuss those?? BTW, thanks for recognizing that I'm a class act.  LOL!!    Stats = Facts!!!!       ;)     ;D PS - I'll check on that BH yardage.  I could be wrong.  Wasn't trying to sway anything.  With this subject, I do not have to.  It'll speak for itself.  If you are right, I'm enough of a class act to admit it!   Nothing personal here as always.  Just my opinion!    Stats = facts!!!!    ;)      ;D
You said stop you when you were wrong... Nederland gave up a shade over 200 yards to BH, so you LIED and doubled that one up for your own AGENDA.  You refuse to acknowledge the 8 years of outstanding defense that Nederland played during the 1997 - 2004 timeframe?  You ask everyone to bring facts and you refuse to acknowledge an 8 year window... maybe it's selective amnesia on your part.  Keep up the good fight Smitty, you are a real class act.
2. Buddy, you don't want to get personal but you use the word idiot.  LOL!!!!  Like I've said, those that can't offer anything subsistence, goes to name calling, buddy.   Let's see, 500 yards against WOS, 400 against BH, over 300 aginst Vidor, 516 against PNG, Stop me when I'm wrong, buddy.  It's not like this conversation started yesterday.  This has been going on for years.  As always, nothing personal.  Next!    ;D     ::)
Smitty, I don't want you to think I have an agenda or anything, this isn't personal, it is strictly based on fact and your performance of defending your position against what this ENTIRE board has to say about the job this man does.... but buddy you are an IDIOT.  There was even a compliment from GoDogs27, understanding that he finished 2nd to you in the armchair QB award, but still, that's sayin alot.  Again, nothing personal, I don't mean anything by it, just stating facts as I read them, you are an IDIOT.  I know that may seem like a personal attack, but it can't be personal, cuz I don't know you.  Again, just callin it like I see/read it, I'm sure you are a wonderful human being.
3. You are right, wins are the most important part.  But as PN-G found out against Livingston and Nederland, Having a good offense and terrible defense doomed them.  Goes to my point what usually wins. I think most coaches would put their better players on "D".  Now, if they are really good, they play both ways. Coach Smitty, I like that.  LOL!!!
So, in Coach Smitty's perfect world, do you put all of the best players on defense and neglect your offense or do you try to keep some balance or play to your strength like I think Neumann is trying to do this year.  And, where do you stop with defensive stats?  Which do you use, least yardage allowed, least points allowed, fewest first downs allowed, turnovers, forced fumbles, interceptions, havind the top defensive player in the district, etc.  Or do you just use wins like most people do?
Well, whether or not one believes this, that's a personal preference.  I for one do.
'Defense wins championships' is a cliche, not a fact as you claim you like to use.  Teams win championships, not the defense or the offense, individually.

4. Well, whether or not one believes this, that's a personal preference.  I for one do.
'Defense wins championships' is a cliche, not a fact as you claim you like to use.  Teams win championships, not the defense or the offense, individually.
5. No, just curious what you meant by No. 1 defense.  During the season or ended up that way.  Like I've said, just wanting the facts.  Those that can't hang in the fact realm, start with the personal attacks.  That's all.
why, am i on trial
6. Agenda-driven? Again, NO agenda.  Just know that defense wins championships.  What agenda are you referring to? When you say they carried the "O", that may have been during the good "D" time-frame.  But it's my contention that those years were the exception to the rule.  What we see now is back to normal.  Normal being during the DeRouen era, first part of Neumann and now.  Just my opinion.
Smitty: Your "logic" here is ridiculous.  You seem to be insinuating that if the defense did not finish #1 in the district that the DC should be replaced.  What about the years that the defense carried the team and the offense lagged- should the OC have been replaced?  You haven't because you know that is not rational. Using your unattainable standard, anytime Neumann, or any head coach at NHS doesn't win district, finishing first, we should be screaming for a change.  I would hope that even you would realize the ignorance in your logic.   You have to judge the whole body of work, not just cherry-pick and use agenda-driven stats.
7. Just to understand, are you saying they ended the season as the No. 1 ranked defense?
2004 Nederland had the #1 defense in district and if I'm not mistaken we also had the #1 offense.
8. Well, this is what I was wondering if this is what you meant so we don't get lost on semantics.  Why I try to use the end of the season, is after the first game anybody can No.1 on "D" if they played a cream-puff and end up last at the end of the season.  I try to use a little bit longer average.  Heck being No. 2 at the end is not bad.  The teams that are, are usually in the 1, 2 or 3 playoff spot.
Smitty, I never made that statement, but Im still trying to help. ;D ;D ;D
9. Nederland's defense was good during this 1997-2002, maybe through 2004 era.  But I don't believe they ended the season as No. 1.  Like I've said many times, nothing personal.  If what you say is true, then great.  At this point i just don't think so.  Just performance driven.
How about 2000, 2001. Just trying to help.
10. I'll ask the same of you;  Let's clarify before we verify: are you saying Ned ended the regular season as the No. 1 defense during these years?
How about 2000, 2001. Just trying to help.
11. Let's clarify before we verify: are you saying Ned ended the regular season as the No. 1 defense during these years?

Come on, james, you know that statement can be verified.  Many No.1 defenses?  I say not true.  But, since you think there were, which years?  You may be right on a few years.  But even that I would have to call foul.  I'm not opposed to it if it is true. I just don't think it is.
Our current DC has had many #1 ranked defenses in our district throughout his career with Nederland. I guess the years he had #1 defenses it was a fluke. Livingston this week. Livingston player for player will out man us all night. We do not have the players to physically match up against Livingston. We will load the box to stop the run. We will do all the right things with a defensive scheme to stop the run. PLAYERS MAKE THE PLAYS. We will hang with Livingston simply because our players play up. Livingston has four players on offense we simply can not run down if they get a step on us. Now, smitty, what is one to do against those odds. I say our coaches and our DC will find a way to get our players to play up. That is how Nederland has been successful each year for the past 15 or so years and the entire rest of our district rides a roller coaster of success and failure. We stay constant because of good men leading good kids..

Ok, jock, 2001, 2003
12. Sounds like DEFENSE won it for them!
Like 260 somethin...
13. Let me help you out.  James stated that Ned., under this DC, has had No. 1 defenses in the past.  I stated I don't think so.  I ask him to provide the year(s) so that can be verified.  You want to help him out and provide the year(s)?
Two words, Spineless......Cowardly.
15. Step up and provide facts that show I'm wrong.  Being a kool-aid drinker and bobble head is easy.  Defend your position. Reason maybe you haven't, is that you can't?!  Hummmmm!!!???    ::)    ;)
Once again, if you have the stones....step up and take it to someone who may or may not be able to do something about it. If not, then backoff. Attacking the man on a messageboard, and calling for his job is a spineless, weak, and cowardly way to go about this......Nothing personal here.
16. As I recall -- I was RIGHT about the bond issue.  And I'm right about this issue as well.    ;D  ;)    ::)
For a man of facts suddenly you "think!" If you thought then you would answer the statement about it being your fault. You rejected the bond, it's your fault!
18. It's not my call to do what you say.  It's strictly the HC's.  He hasn't made a move yet so obviously he thinks he's doing a jam-up job.  But along with that, one must live with the consequences of their actions.  That's what's good about America. Now, outanup, since you think this DC is the greatest since slice bread, give me proof.  But keep it on the performance level.  No touchy-feely stuff.  There's nothing personal here.
James, save your breath. Its like talking to the wall. Still wondering if he has the stones to take his beef to the school board, or even Larry himself. If he does, I will be there to see the end results. Whats it gonna be Smitty? Please let me know when you appear before the board, or Larry (your choice) I wouldnt miss it for the world!!!
20. i won't stop until everyone agrees with me.   LOL!!!!!    ;)    ;D     ::) PS - I think Neauman knows.
Smitty, I think you have made your point. Ill say this again, if you really feel this strongly about our coaching situation..... 21. That's a Jerry Jones problem of not being able to find the right person.  How many coaches are there in Texas?  A good DC could be found.

You have my answer. I'm not talking about your typical change the DC answer. I want your expert review on how our defense can be better. Anyone can get on here and post Fire the DC. Lets see a little more substance.

Statistically that is a bogus thought, just because you bring in a new DC doesn't mean that you get better. Jerry Jones got rid of Jimmy Johnson and he has replaced him five times and has not improved his team. To get a DC to change schools other than a HC job would not be likely, you have no money to offer him and he would not leave a successful program for nothing. The only likely scenario would be that you know someone on the staff that you would like in that position.
22. Ken Clearman, Pat Fisher, Matt Burnett.  LOL!!!  Next!    But seriously if I was responsible for that desicion, I would seek out the best in the state of Texas.  ;D
Ok Smitty name 3 DC
23. i disagree to some extent.  True, though, you don't do it now.  You have to do after the season.  It's done all the time.  There are good DC's or potential DC's in the state of Texas that would love to come to Nederland.

You have my answer. 24. I'm purely talking about defensive stats.  Defense wins championships.  You must agree with this.  Consistently giving up 400-500 yards per game will not win many games.  Even neauman knows this. Ok, so far, we've lost to a bad team and we've beaten a bad team.  We'll just have to wait and see what happens next. Actually I hope you are right.  I hope we win the District Championship all the while giving up massive yardage.  Realistically I don't, and I don't think you do either, feel this will happen without playing better on "D".
If stats alone won games, Warren Moon and the Oilers would have won three or four Super Bowls.  Back in the day when the Spread Offense was known as the Run and Shoot they racked up tons of yards and points.  This isn't fantasy football where raw stats win.  You can have the same issue with a defense - lots of yards, but timely stops and plays.  Nederland has been known for that even five or ten years ago.  It is a team game and stats can be misleading.  PNG had more yards, but lost.  How do you account for that?
25. Where are you at, ISpeak?    ???
How long have you been following Ned football?  You think this is just a recent phenomena?  I have been pointing out, in my opinion, a problem here for many years. With the exception of 5-7 years, this DC has had performance problems. During those years, I thought the problem was corrected.  Not the case.  We are back to the way it was. We can go back to DeRouen's stint if you wish.  One can ALWAYS go back and read the newspapers and find the actual numbers (stats) for any year.  Meaning the facts.  I'm willing because I know what they'll show. Are you?
I am not blaming the kids from any particular season, just stating facts as you always demand of everyone else.  And, after inferring that I was blaming the kids, you failed to address any of the other issues I brought up.  That speaks volumes, in my opinion.   To just say that replacing the DC would "improve the defense 1000%" lacks any basis in fact.  You are losing your clothes, emperor.
First of all, AGAIN, I don't blame the kids.  Missed tackles and giving up yards, I blame the coaches and DC in particular.  Like I said before, I'll leave blaming the kids to others!   ;)
Even if they are very talented, it is unrealistic to expect a sophomore-heavy defense to shut teams down week in and week out.  In my opinion, you can afford to do that with a year like this where your offense is solid.  If the talent is not great on defense I think it is unfair to blame the DC.  If you look back at the good defenses from the past five or ten years, they were loaded with talent: Piletere, Sanchez, Cobb, Johnson, and so on.  With all due respect to the last couple years' kids, there was a little drop-off.  This group can and will be good.   If you want to criticize or judge a DC, do it on scheme or how he adjusts during games.  I think all of that is solid right now, we have just lacked playmakers the last couple years.  Throw out last year and this is a rebuilding year.   Now, if you want to look at an example of a DC not scheming or adjusting properly, look no further than the PNG  DC last Friday.  With all due respect to our neighbors across the tracks, they never adjusted to or stopped the Wildcat and that was a big factor in the game.  I was shocked (and glad) that they never stepped up to stop Sonnier ripping it up the middle.   Show me something like that Smitty and then I will quit drinking the Kool-Aid.  Saying they miss tackles or give up yards doesn't cut it.
