This is the truth! Club makes the difference. Look at the successful teams and you'll see mostly club players. Club is where they get skill development and they take those skills to their HS teams. Then we see the HS coaches take the credit for their talent when in reality the player probably feels like HS season didn't do them any good.

What does your team return for the 2024 season?
MamaBear2001 replied to MamaBear2001's topic in High School Volleyball
When your team has the majority of its players in high level clubs during the off season, you see the payoff during the school season. I'd wager that the best HS players in SETX play club ball at a high level. And I'm not talking about the clubs who play 3 or 4 one day tournaments in the spring. If you look at HS teams closer to Houston you'll see that most of the girls are single sport athletes who play volleyball year round. The sad reality with the larger high schools in the Houston area is that kids don't have a chance to make varsity unless they are a year-round player. My niece is one of them at Klein. I like that a lot of the kids around SETX can be multi sport athletes at their smaller schools. It cannot be denied, however, that having players who invest in good clubs makes a huge difference in school season. -

I don't think they were in the same summer league. LCM hosts their own summer league, and BC/OF/HF/Vidor/Deweyville and many others were part of it. I never saw PNG or Nederland at LCM summer league. I watched them in the Xcel spring league that PNG hosted. Not sure which summer league PNG and Nederland participated in. -
Season starts in less than one month. I watched some spring and summer league games and saw some solid teams. I'm optimistic about my Lady Bears. They are still young but they played well together in the summer league and got 2nd place (behind BC). Our middle will give people some trouble and we have a group of girls in the back row that refuse to let a ball touch the floor. BC looks like a good group, as always. Missing their district MVP middle. Vidor may be even younger than LCM but I don't know many of them, so looking forward to hearing from a fan about that team. PNG and Nederland have improved from what I saw compared to last summer and looked great at spring league. Who do you have returning?

They ran a 6-2, rather than the 5-1 they have had all season. Good move because it gives them 3 hitters in the front row on every rotation. New hitter on the right side, and another girl played a lot more than she did against us. One of their hitters played a back row rotation tonight and did well. -

My Bears didn't have a game tonight, but we we hosted the BC Lumberton game. BC spanked the Raiders in 3 straight sets. The BC lineup looked very different than when we played them. I believe they play Vidor tomorrow. -
BC had a bye on Tuesday.

I'd agree with you on this statement based on the two times I have seen them this year. They still have their middle, but she can't get a good set so she isn't much of a threat unless she is blocking. They have a sophomore outside but she is inconsistent. Block those 2 and you'll have a win. BC is very much missing Tupper from 2 years ago, their senior setter from last year, and the sophomore who played all the way around last year but has a knee injury. LCM is young too, and most of our losses have been battles where our inexperience shows. I still expect LCM to grow throughout the year and be a salty team by district. PNG had to earn their points to beat the bears unlike some teams who will spot you 10 points just on errors. -
I think they have a shot. LCM has several players with no varsity experience so it will take a while to get rolling, but the athleticism is there. BC looked more down than I expected at the scrimmage last weekend. Demi Carter is still a powerhouse but she is their only threat, and they could barely get her the ball to hit with the poor setting.

LCM lost 7 seniors but their JV was loaded. I don't think they will have trouble filling spots this year. The new coach (old BC coach l believe) will have them ready to play.
-
I agree. I expect LCM to win district or come in 2nd to Vidor. I heard that BC lost their stud freshman to a injury and their senior setter graduated. They won't be as good as they were last year.
-
19-4a is heavily skewed to the district champs, but I'm happy to see some deserving names here from LCM and Vidor. H Maddox had more assists this year than others, so I'm not sure why she was not setter of the year?

YMBL Tournament Starts Thursday

Congratulations to the teams who placed well. However, I was embarrassed by how the LCM fans acted during the day. Taunting other teams' players by name or number, condescending chants, cheering when the other team did something wrong rather than when we did something correct. I was raised in there but I was embarrassed to be associated with that behavior. Cheering for your team is great, but I was taught that you never called out opposing players by name or number or make personal comments about players. -
Were you at the Bc/OF match? How did both teams look?
