  1. Interesting, and clever, but I'll be very surprised if the proposed bill passes as written. Apparently the bill states that the assessed value is a 90-day offer. I didn't read it through, so I don't know what happens after that. I'm over 65 so my rate is now frozen, but not my home's value. And the value increased by 10% each year for 3 years after I turned 65. The most that they can raise the value per year (in Texas) is 10%, if I understand it right. Last year the value was dropped, essentially, due to the legislation that they passed in Austin last year.
  2. It was. Very very very conservative game for PNG, both offense and defense. By-and-large just run up the middle all game long, until they broke one for a 30-yd TD in OT. WOS defense line finally got wore down, basically.
  3. +1 on all of that, and it's no secret what went on at PNG when Faircloth was let go, it was in the papers, or at PA News IIRC. There were meetings, and at one of the meetings the QB (last season's starting QB) spoke up for Faircloth. A photo of this was in the local papers, so not secret. Several varsity and JV boys either quit football, or else sat out last season with nagging injuries. After last season's success I know of at least 3 players that came back, and all 3 had/have PNG connections, and all 3 were made starters this season. NOTE: I'm not taking anything from the boys, they are all 3 good athletes, and were productive, although 1 ended up injured for most of the season. There may be more that I'm not aware of, but anyway, that's how it is with coaching changes along with immediate success.
  4. Very very true, dat. And the coaches very well know it, including CJ. That's why certain players play. It just so happens that the team this year, and somewhat last year, was good enough to cover for them.
  5. He kept it until he got to the sideline I think. My grandson was one of the 5 guys on that OSK, (not #24). He says that they ran that OSK probably 75 times that week. I was thinking that was probably a little teenage hyperbole going on, but I don't know. They had 4 practices, since it was a Saturday game, and if they ran it, say, 10 or 12 times each day, then that's ~50 times. Anyway, who's counting. That's a nice tribute video.
  6. Actually it wasn't a bad play by SOC's #2, whether intentional or not. If he hadn't grabbed hold then #11 would've been wide open by several steps. So he gave PNG a first down, but prevented an immediate touchdown.
  7. It's really ironic. The really obvious pass interference was on the previous trip into the red zone, with the same 2 players, #2 and #11, but there was no flag. Also on that same series was when Adams crossed the goal line then got pushed back and the refs wouldn't signal a TD (like they did for SOC's first dubious TD). Some good replays in these clips. 8. Sorry for not citing the reference. The quote is from the article for the link that PhatMack19 posted, up above in this thread. [Hidden Content]# From the same article ... "Under the Texas Public Information Act, KFDM/Fox 4 has requested and is awaiting a copy of Dallas ISD's formal complaint on behalf of South Oak Cliff High School that was submitted to UIL and TASO."
  9. Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) Executive Director Michael Fitch said the organization is still investigating and had no comment when reached by phone Wednesday afternoon. He declined to release the document submitted by Dallas ISD and South Oak Cliff High School.
  10. This thread has reached 6 pages and folks are talking about a lock, so I'll go ahead and comment with regard to the above politics-within-officials-orgs subject. Did someone mention in an above post that this is recent? Maybe they were referencing a particular situation "that recently occurred", not that politics is a recent thing. I had two co-workers back in the late 70s that were officials, and I swear I heard them crying and griping almost on a daily basis. The more senior refs got the games with the bigger gate(s), and the refs with less seniority fought it out for the remaining games. It used to crack me up listening to them trying to figure out how to get to some of the more out-of-the-way stadiums (this was in the 70s). I think the recent shortage of refs just follows the same recent trends, just like the shortage of school teachers, the shortage of bus drivers, and on and on. Anyway, happy new year everyone.
  11. It's always something. Always lots of hate, and that's just the way it is. But if you gonna go back and review one play, then review them all.
  12. Mostly true. But this years' group of PNG seniors never lost to Ned, from middle school through 12 grade, under both the Faircloth system, and then the Joseph system for the past two seasons. * * 2 or 3 of this seasons' Srs were on the 2021 varsity team that lost to Ned
  13. PNG had a bullseye on their back this season. FBM, TC, Dayton, Ned, and then especially LH in the semi, all reportedly had last season's scores posted up on the locker room wall.
  14. The soph QB really stepped up, and the big Offensive line did too. The receiver-back up QB - punter #11 is a jr, and will play a big part again next season. #15 rb will also. On defense there will be lots of big roles to fill. But db #10, and LBs 4 and 43 are juniors. I'm not sure how many D linemen with starting or regular roles are returning. Anyway, it's been fun watching this year's team, and it's been fun watching the seniors play for the past 6 years. Or 5 years? They were undefeated 2 years in middle school, and "won district" as a jv team, then went to state their 2 years on varsity. (This is speaking by-and-large, since a few of the SRS played on varsity as sophomores.)
  15. From Houston Chronicle: Quote of the night: “First and foremost, I believe that God does everything for a reason. It was a blessing just having the opportunity to come back out here and compete with my brothers. We just came up a little short this year.” - North Shore QB Kaleb Bailey
  16. There were so many non calls, holding, face mask, push in the back, PI. Then towards the end of the game, suddenly it seemed, flags began flying. I wish the refs would've stopped all that stuff earlier, although they did finally call the hit to the head on #2. Always seems like there's a #2 on these types of teams.
  17. This will be a tough game. SOC, similar to Texas City, PAM, and a few others, they will push the envelope on personal fouls until they get a few called, then they back off but not without complaining. Last year the SOC coach really complained loudly at the refs for the PF calls. The difference last year was the sheer athleticism of the SOC receivers. The passes were basically hail Marys, and the receivers and DBs were on their own. Sort of like LH last Friday night.
  18. I've never seen more razzle dazzle trick plays and hail Marys in all my life. The LH relies solely on luck when they know they're playing a better team. I only liked them. But when that kid on the sideline stepped onto the field and caught that punt, then I loved and admired them. Still, it's like loving a swarm of mosquitoes that just won't go away. Congrats to both teams.
  19. We're not. We're looking squarely at LH, and we're ready to play the game.
  20. Yeah, and a big shame. Hopefully all of the family members of players, bands, drill teams, cheerleaders, and all other students that are involved in some way, will be able to attend the game in person. PNG especially, has a very large band and drill team, as well as a pretty large football team, and many other students that are involved. When you multiply each student x 2 or 3 or 4 or probably more, family members, you're probably well over 1000-1500 tickets already, before counting the student body attendees. I always get a kick out of the various shirts I see at the games. "# so-and-so's mee-maw", or "so-and-so's pawpaw". God bless 'em.
  21. Prayed, for his family and friends. Sorry for ya'll's loss; by all accounts Coach East appears to have been a good guy, and good friend to many.
  22. +1 For the record, I like LH, and I enjoyed watching last year's game, win or lose. The previous 2 games last season against ALBJ and FBM were hard fought tough games; and the previous 2 games this season against MLC and Huntsville were both pretty tough games, and we didn't escape either game without a few injuries. I'm looking forward to this Friday's game, and also hope it's a clean, injury free game. Edit: Also hoping for good refs.
  23. Good deal. Thanks for posting that. Many of last years' SOC team are playing on Saturdays now.
  24. If he's the same big lineman that played in last year's championship game, he spent pretty much the whole game trying to keep his pants pulled up. I mean no disrespect whatsoever towards the young man, and wish him the best. I'm just saying that he had trouble with his football pants in last year's title game. A larger problem for PNG in last year's game was pass coverage on defense, and (IMO) a worn out running back on offense. (Very simply put.)
  25. The comment about where the best coaches live? That's around the 3:37 mark.
