I was thinking along those same lines, but my wife and I both voted for it anyway. We're over 65 so our school taxes won't increase, regardless.

Is Oneal's a new place? There's been several difference restaurants that tried that location in the past. Gringo's Tex-Mex in Texas City looks interesting. So does Cafe Petra.

I'm not surprised at the price, with today's prices and interest rates. If the stadium in the pic with the article is a 43 million $ stadium (or maybe it was 48 mil, I don't remember), then the 94 mil$ new one could still be quite modest, especially if it includes an elevator, good seating, electronic scoreboard and all that goes with that, and a nice concession stand with multiple restrooms. Hamshire-Fannett approved a 1-1/2 mil concession stand a couple of years ago, before inflation, that I presume included restrooms.

I agree on the need for PNG offense to come together; but all they need, really, is ~4 or 5 fewer dropped passes, and they'll be ok. That and perhaps an injured player or two back on offense. Also, in the FBM game, PNG had three good chances for fairly easy field goals. The final score could have easily been 16-0, with good smooth snaps and holds. Anyway I'm guessing that they'll be much improved by this Friday, but I'm still expecting a tough game.

Agree wrt FBM. I noticed several pretty big guys on their sideline not suited up, including what I think was their big defensive end. I noticed them because pre-game they were standing over behind, and watching, the PNG players that were doing pre-game drills and warm-ups on the visitor side of the field. I think that TC is the dark horse in the district, though. They defeated Friendswood and Galveston Ball; and #22, Bell, is a Sr now, and seems to have big games against PNG. It's a big game for both teams, just like last week's PNG-FBM game.

I failed to read the sign; so now I guess I need to watch the video. WRT FBM, they'd better get it together before they play Texas City. Next Friday will be interesting for PNG, playing at TC. Hopefully PNG can keep up the intensity and not relax after this big win; I think they are going to need all the intensity they can muster. -

I sure expected more deep passes from FBM, and perhaps the QB scrambles that go with them. Otherwise it was almost identical to last season with the QB runs and short screen passes. -

I have a feeling that this game isn't going to be pretty. -

From the Beaumont Enterprise: "Port Neches-Groves (2-1) got all it could handle from the gallant Orange County visitors. Paced by quarterback Marcus Turner, Jr., West Orange-Stark led in first downs, 20-13, and total net yards by a whopping 525 to 307. But the Mustangs also led in penalty yards, 105-40. Turner accounted for 254 yards, running for 115 and two scores while passing for 139. Port Neches-Groves passed for only 4 yards due in part to a first-half ankle injury that sidelined quarterback Shea Adams for the entire second half." PNG beat FBM? Really? The PNG defense gave up 525 yards against a WOS team that fielded only 31 players, +/-. They did manage to hold WOS down the stretch, but if WOS would have tried for field goals twice the score might have been 26-20, or maybe 23-20, WOS, at the end of regulation, presuming PNG kicks that last field goal and tries an OSK. I'm really holding my tongue here, but PNG has a tough row to hoe this season just to make the playoffs, unless some changes are made both on defense and offense. And I very seriously doubt that any changes will be made. -

WOS could have and really should have won this game. I think their lines (D-Line mainly) faded a bit there at the end. But my major observation was the number of holding calls. It seemed like there were more holding calls in this one game than I saw called in all of last season put together. I wondered last season, pretty much every game, what does one have to do to get flagged for holding? Tonight was the opposite. Flags all over the place. Anyway, good game. PNG's #33 deserved the win, more than anybody. -
Thanks, I had forgotten about KOGT.

I heard that WOS lists 26 players on the varsity roster. I glanced on line, and maxpreps lists 29 I think. The school district site doesn't list the roster, or else I just didn't find it. Per the program I picked up last week in PN, PNG lists 54 varsity players. It's got to be tough for the smaller team to hang with the larger team for 4 quarters, with all else being somewhat equal and no turnovers or "gimmees", etc. I recall a JV game a couple of seasons ago when Santa Fe showed up in PN with a team that probably didn't have as many as 20 players, and they did pretty well for a while, but it wasn't long before PNG was emptying their bench. Anyway, I missed last season's game, and it wasn't carried on Texan Live, so I'm looking forward to seeing this one. The PNG-WOS games always seem to be interesting.

I wish there would have been a running clock, the 4th qtr must have lasted 30 minutes or more. And I agree with all of the above positive comments with regard to BU. They have some talented offensive linemen, and speed in the backfield. I lost count how many passes were dropped, though, and some of them had TD written all over it. Trying to run before they catch the ball as the saying goes, which may be sort of understandable when you're down by a lot, and trying to make a big play. -
That was last year.

It was hard to keep up w/o the scoreboard; they were only keeping up with the clock and the buzzer. But PNG scored on their 1st 5 possessions, 4 passes with good runs, and 1 field goal. One receiver scored twice, and the halfback scored twice on what appeared to be the same short pass play. I quit keeping up with it after that. Re LCM, they played 3 or maybe 4 different QBs. The tall QB that was playing in the 4th looked pretty good. LCM's 4th qtr broke down a little, with some penalties, including 1 holding call that resulted in a TD run being called back. Otherwise they looked much better, and a little more spirited, in the 2nd half. Everyone was talking about PNGs big O line, but LCM has a pretty big O line as well. All in all LCM has a good team, based on what I saw.
-
I recall only 2 scores. A field goal by the first team, and a late TD with ~3 minutes remaining by the 2nd team against the PNG 2nd team.
-
It should be interesting. Last season the first scrimmage finally was called after a couple lightning alarms went off. I forget how long the second scrimmage attempt lasted, but I recall that LCM moved the ball pretty good. When the PNG offense got the ball they ran something like 10 straight or maybe more running plays up the middle to the same RB. Then changed RBs and ran 10 or more running plays in a row, up the middle, all to the 2nd RB. So who knows, maybe this Thursday they will just throw passes like its a 7 on 7, but I wouldn't guess that, since these two teams faced each other numerous times 7 on 7 this past spring and early summer. I do know one thing, though. This past Sat morning it was HOT and HUMID at the PNG Reservation. We'll see how it is in LCM this Thursday evening.

Prayers for these families. Such a tragedy.

A good friend of mine from Barbers Hill was just talking to me about the HF concession stand last week. Wait, was it HF, or HJ? Regardless, I live in the HF school district, and pay HF school tax. A couple-or-so years ago a new concession stand was approved by voters, I think it passed by 5 votes, at a cost of $1.5 million. I think my wife and I voted for it, but I recall wondering aloud, "geez, a 1.5 million dollar concession stand? The food better be good."
-
Yeah, I was impressed. Lots of leadership. Lots of good freshmen coming up. Very aggressive play. And I'm glad it ended up in a diplomatic tie, 14-14.
-
That's funny.

Wow, how tragic and sad. Prayers for his family and fellow students, and the community. -
Shea was QB1 all morning for this mornings' scrimmage, (offense vs defense). So there's that.
