    Cuero

It's been a few years since I've been through Cuero. Is Smolik's BBQ still there? We'd go through Cuero, then Yorktown and then Nordheim, and usually have dinner at Edgar & Gladys Cafe in Nordheim. Somewhere between Nordheim and Kenedy was our bird lease. Great times.
  2. No prob. I should have qualified my earlier facile-ish comment with an "IMO". The center is a excellent lineman and a good athlete, and occasionally snaps it high, from game 1, against Memorial. I'm not criticizing him, I'm in support of him. He's a great player and I'm glad that he's on our side. Regarding the passing game(s), the unofficial stats I've seen posted on another site show "PN-G total yards as ~370, vs Nederland ~160, including the 61 yard fumble return." ... "Indians with 215 yards on the ground and 155 passing. Crippen 13 of 19 with 1 TD pass and no interceptions. Nederland 5 of 18 for 94 yards, no TDs and 2 interceptions passing. 74 yards rushing and 2 TDs. " In the first half PNG stayed on the ground, but was using pitchouts, which they hadn't done in previous games. I guess a pitchout in the rain may be considered semi-conservative. But also #33 only got a couple plays, for some reason. #3, and #18 both had turns at RB, for the first time this season. #19 has lined up as RB before, but on one play he went in motion (1st time I recall seeing that this season) and actually took the snap. The defense showed at least one new formation as well. So, overall, it was a slightly different game set for PNG; whether the weather had anything to do with it, I have no idea. Overall, like I said previously, it was a fun game to watch; I'm glad it was a close game.
  3. Did you edit your original post? I could have swore you asked if I was there last night. Anyway, yes, yes, I was there, and yes the rain definitely affected the game. I read the PANews piece this morning. Coach Joseph is a good guy.
  4. The ONLY reason the game was close was because the PNG center had an off night. Rain didn't affect the passing game too much for either team.
  5. Anything is possible if you get untimely penalties, snap the ball over the QB/punter's head a few times, and fumble a time or two, or otherwise don't hold the ball securely enough to not be knocked free. There are a few other factors as well, but these are what immediately comes to mind.
  6. Btw, PNG had a few Jrs and Sophs on the field as well. Just saying.
  7. I'm sure glad they held the line in the 1st half, though, and forced the field goal. Otherwise the score is 26-28.
  8. Apparently so; or the way the refs saw it, anyway. Coach Joseph wasn't happy about the call, though.
  9. Question: The PNG QB is back in punt formation, 4th down, and the ball was hiked over his head. He ran back, picked up the ball and spiked it. The refs spotted the ball back where he spiked it, rather than at the line of scrimmage. If a spike is an incomplete pass, then why not put the ball back at the line of scrimmage? If it's not an incomplete pass, then isn't it a fumble? If so then the Nederland player could have picked it up and ran.
  10. It was a strange night. Two new running backs in, while #33 sat out. The two senior inside LBs were back, but came out in the 3rd qrtr and the Soph and Jr finished the game at defense. I could go on I guess, but no need, it was a great exciting game, and worth the wait, and the wet.
  11. The clock just started. Maybe they're warming up. I'm in the parking lot in my car.
  12. After the first minute? After that it's only going to get uglier. (Not picking on you, btw, just tagging on to the last post.) 😀
  13. That wouldn't matter, from what I've heard, Faircloth always got outcoached in the MCM games. This is all second hand, mind you, and has nothing to do with this week's game. But I don't know how many times I heard it over the years ... "if he don't beat Nederland this year then he's gone".
  14. If the RB you're referring to was #25, unfortunately he was injured during the bye weekend (week-4) and hasn't returned. Don't know if he'll be back for playoffs, but from what I hear, I doubt it. And last week towards the end of the Santa Fe game, the Soph RB that had been brought up was wearing an arm sling. But still, there's #33, and the big fullback, and a couple of others. Very good depth on both offense and defense. But whether they are hurt or sick or whatever, they all want to be on the field, and especially for this game.
  15. Lots of good games this week, but MCM has the hype, the Trophy, and Wade Phillips and many other alumni in attendance, which typically draws the press. But it'll be a good game regardless, with plenty of highlight material. Several years ago one of the Bulldog kids ran through the Indian banner and busted it. I don't know the kid but I play golf with his dad. It'll be fun, and hopefully things will remain civil.
  16. If both teams were required to only play the seniors for this game, would Nederland have enough seniors? It's a weird thought. But I would expect that the seniors will all at least start. This will be my first MCM game to attend (God willing) in many years, I can't remember the last one I was able to make. More than 20 years, for sure. In the last few years I've seen middle school, freshman and JV games between the two, but no Friday night MCM games. From what I hear, we should get there early.
  17. Pretty much all of the PNG starters sat out the entire second half. A receiver in the 1st half, #19 played QB for a series, then #14 played QB for the rest of the game. Hopefully everyone played; if not then shame on the coaches. The PNG kicker had a good night, and was kept very busy in the first half, and in 2nd half kicked a field goal ~35 or so yards with plenty room to spare. QB #11 was on target, and so were the receivers. Looked very sharp. The defense allowed 38 rushing yards in 34 attempts, according to the PA News. The SF stadium was nice, but smallish, and reminded me of many 4A or large 3a stadiums that I've seen, with a small scoreboard, and sound system that requires old guys like me to have to listen closely, in order to make out what's being said.. Small band and drill team, but good, like most of the others we've seen this season, except for Dayton, which has a large band like PNG. They share PNGs fight song and school song tunes, and when they played it the PNG fans would stand and clap as though it was PNG band playing it. Overall the SF team appears to be a good well coached team, but small and over matched last night.
  18. It's an extracurricular activity, and the student must have passing grades in order to participate.
  19. I've said for a long time, that we (PNG) should have nothing to do with Cherokees. If anything we should be Caddoes or Karankawas; or Commanches perhaps. But if all else fails I wouldn't mind adopting "Welders" as a mascot. There's lots of possibilities with The Welders. Same number of letters, etc. "W -E -L -D- E- R- S, tack 'em Welders tack 'em!"
  20. <Groan> (Actually, you beat me to it. The Indians win this one, either way, for sure.!)
  21. I'm going with Nederland over Galena Park, simply based on Willow Ridge as a common opponent. Nederland beat Willow Ridge Willow Ridge beat Galena Park Otherwise, it's a toss up.
