Dayton (28) @ Port Neches-Groves (35) - FINAL
1970 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
There were too many "what-ifs" to count in this game, for both teams. A missed field goal, dropped passes, dropped interceptions, missed scoring opportunities inside the 20, questionable ball spots, untimely flags. It was a good tough hardnosed ballgame. -
Dayton (28) @ Port Neches-Groves (35) - FINAL

Great game! I would like to see a replay of the catch PNG made, where the refs spotted it short and turned the ball over. From where I was sitting the receiver caught the pass and stepped out of bounds ahead of the first down marker. He was standing right at the marker, and he wasn't pushed out of bounds, he stepped out. The refs seemed to have trouble spotting the ball all evening, in fact. Another replay I'd like to see is Dayton's final TD. I was watching the linemen and linebackers and missed the play. Suddenly the runner was dashing down the middle of the field all by himself. I'm so glad to get this one behind us. I just don't like homecoming games. -
Dang, I'm tempted to go to this game just for the pre-game tailgate party.

Indeed. A really sad deal. -
Paetow HC Resigns as Police Launch Misconduct Investigation

I couldn't find that one on a quick Google search. I once had two co-workers (male and female) who were both single, and they began seeing each other offsite. When anyone mentioned it to him, he'd always say "never dip your pen in company ink". Well, you guessed it I'm sure. She became pregnant, and he transferred to another job at another site, and I don't want to even think about the rest of the story. But, I remember the guys in the office from then on adopting and using the "company ink" line for many various situations. Seems like a good adage, or idiom perhaps, especially for teachers and students. -
Local districts? I would hope that the AD selects the HC date. Or else greatly influences it. A coach on another site said he would always pick a date that was at least 5 games into the season.

So is Pimpin Burger the same place as the Crawfish place? Or are these two different spots. Edit: Never mind, I just looked it up. I've heard of this place, just down from the CC golf course. I guess I need to go try it sometime.

I'm curious now, how and when homecoming games are selected. I probably knew at one time, but don't really care now. But anyway, the Willow Ridge game was supposed to have been an away game, so the Dayton game actually was a true "homecoming".
-
1. Home field: advantage PNG 2. It's PNG Homecoming: advantage Dayton 3. Strength of prior opponents: advantage PNG (via PAM, FBM, WOS, TC) 4. All starters healthy: advantage Dayton 5. H.S. Football Logic: PAM defeated PNG + Porter defeated Dayton + PAM defeated Porter = no conclusion Looks like a likely close game. Just based on visual appearance PNG may have a bit larger team, and bigger O Line. The PNG defense has played the last two games with 3 or maybe 4 backups, but they've done ok, and have gained some good experience. One of the Sr linebackers may return to action this week. Still, lots of seniors on the team. Tough one to call, but overall advantage, I think, PNG.

Ok, I found Corrigan, it's between Moscow and Wakefield, but it took me a few seconds to locate Camden, nestled amongst Moscow, Barnes and Barnum. Moscow appears closer to Corrigan on the map than Camden. I've always heard of this school district, and I imagine they have to look at the map to find Port Neches, and for sure Groves. Or perhaps not, they're likely smarter than me. But anyway, I looked at the highlights in the other thread, and it doesn't appear to be the same players/numbers as the highlights on maxpreps. But one thing's for sure, those running backs simply do not want to go down. Especially that #24 vs Hempstead, in the maxprep highlight. They hit him at the 20, piled on, and he pretty much carried the entire pile to the goal line.

Underdogs? They've got a 5-1 OA and 3-0 District record. Do they have all of their starters, and no injuries? BTW, @purpleeagle, what is Calprep?
-
Yeah, be sure to tell Dayton coaches now, there's no need for them to practice this week, they've pretty much got this one already.
-
Apparently they guessed it. I'm interested who they pick between Santa Fe vs Texas City.
-
I haven't watched this game; but SF seems to be having a better season over all. It's possible they could make the playoffs; their game vs TC will be interesting.

Fort Bend Willowridge @ Port Neches-Groves Indians
1970 replied to prepballfan's topic in High School Football
There's not a lot of information on Willowridge, except that they beat Galena Park and lost to Nederland. I look for #15 to play a bit more than he did against TC. Also several back-ups will start again on defense. PNG should be expected to take it, just based on comparisons and other posts that I see. -
And Ned did not, under the same circumstances presumably. But anyway, I would expect a close game, if no turnovers, etc, and I'm pulling for the bulldogs.
-
+1 It's a toss-up on paper but I'm going with Nederland. Santa Fe scored 27 against Dayton, but Nederland did well against PAM for at least a half, so there's that. Still, past performance does not guarantee future results, whether it be stocks or HS football.

Fort Bend Willowridge @ Port Neches-Groves Indians

Yeah, it's a little confusing. But the PNG and Willowridge sites both show @ PNG at 7 pm. Btw, both starting middle linebackers were sidelined for the TC game. The backup middle LB was out for the WOS game but played the entire TC game. A Soph LB was brought up and played the entire game also. There were 2 others not suited up for TC or FBM, a DB and a fullback. All of the backups did good by and large as far as I could tell. And they are getting some good experience. But it'll be good to get all of the Sr starters well and back in action by the time they play Dayton. (Not to overlook Willowridge of course.) -

Where can you find the stats for these games? -
A good friend of mine is a policeman investigator working in theft division (in another state, not Texas). He told me that one morning his first 3 phone calls of the day were a woman telling him that she could do his job better than him, a guy that told him he would have him fired by noon, and another guy that had been convicted of stealing that wanted the stolen property, saying he had served his sentence and paid his fine, so the stolen property should rightly be his. My policeman friend was telling this to a friend who happens to be a local HS coach, and the coach just nodded, smiled and said "well at least your job success doesn't depend on 16 year old kids".

Me too. I've never seen a bye week hurt a team so much as it did PNG last week. They'll get it back together for this coming Friday.

Port Neches-Groves (14) @ Fort Bend Marshall (35) - FINAL

1.Tough game. Too hot! 2. Nice stadium. 3. Very poor officiating, especially in the first Qtr, and on both sides of the ball. PNG offense needs to learn how to hold, everyone's doing it, and it doesn't get called except ~10% of the time, even when it's blatant. 4. FBM is one of those teams that does very well on broken plays, blown coverage, QB scrambles, 3rd&4th downs, etc. Wears a defense out. 5. PNG DBs gave FBM's tall receiver 10-15 yard passes all day long. I bet he caught short passes for the majority of FBM's first downs, maybe even half of them. 6. FBM's QB was really on target today, and effective. PNG's #11 threw with his weight on his back foot pretty much all day, like he was falling backward, and was late to the target way too often, long after the receivers were open. He's a good kid, but he had a bad outing. 7. PNG really missed Reed. That's a very tough loss right there. Kudos to #33 and others that did their best, and had several good runs. 8. Bottom line, the fumbled punt that pretty much gave FBM their 1st TD, and the following TD with help of the refs, put PNG in a 14-0 hole that they couldn't get out of. Other than that it was a good hard fought game.
