Port Neches-Groves (24) @ Huntsville (21) - FINAL

Good game both teams overall. I was really impressed by Huntsville DL #53. The refs overall have had a tough season so far, and I'm not talking about just this game, but all the games I've watched. I'm not throwing stones, I've never refereed a game, I'm just saying that there seems to be lots of confusion in the close games I've seen so far. But the clock issue tonight was simply ridiculous. -

The play clock and time clock is messed up and refs keep calling delay of game , and now an USC against PNG coaches. Welcome to Huntsville. -

PNG is double teaming #53 and he's still making tackles. -

Montgomery is having a good season, and have been the dark horse. It'll be an interesting district, like everyone expected. -

C'mon Lake Creek. -
This should be a good game, I'm thinking.

May he rest in peace, and may God comfort his family and friends at this time. That Silsbee High School Wall of Honor says a lot, IMO. It's the real deal, and Coach Drake must have also been the real deal.

Hey, the strategy worked all last season, so I'm just trying to keep it going. Besides, I'm just helping the coach out a little. His superintendent was sitting right there, and I hear that he's a PNG grad. Anyway like I said I ff'd through and caught the gist of it. Just at a glance actually I think he was more blase' about LC than PNG. But these good coaches remind me of stock brokers, cautiously optimistic about their recommendations for a stock, like maybe NVDA or Apple. I'm hoping for a better game than the LC game, those kinds of games are too much for my nerves. About half the point total of last week's PNG-LC score-fest would be ok.

I've seen all sorts of things during the post game handshakes, but this one is a first for me. I hope that I've seen it all now; no new fads or trends. My grandson a couple of years ago after a JV game responded to a verbal remark from an opposing team member, and basically told him to just look at the scoreboard. He (my grandson) didn't make it off the field or even into the red zone before one of his coaches stopped him and had a "discussion" about it. I was glad to see that he and the coach did shake hands after the discussion, though. Those are the kinds of coaches that get the most respect, really, IMO.

I scanned through the Huntsville coach's weekly interview, posted on another forum. He's correct, PNG isn't anything to worry about. Lake Creek should have won that game last week, they had plenty of opportunities. He isn't impressed at all. I sure hope he makes it a point to tell the Huntsville team to just relax and take it easy tonight. No worries.

I watched the 2nd half, and was particularly impressed with #12 on Hardin, both offense and defense. Good game for both teams, and fun game to watch.
-
Good hard fought, gritty, grind it out ball game. I only saw the 2nd half, but IMO Hardin didn't get the ball into #12's hands enough in the 2nd half, or follow his blocks enough either.

C'mon Dogs! You can win this one.

Pulling for Lake Creek!

We (including me) seem to be still discussing the LC game, but I think it's wrt the upcoming Huntsville game. Hopefully there will be a good crew of refs. I didn't keep count and I haven't watched a replay (it's not my job to watch replays), but there was plenty enough holding and blocking in the back going on, and on at least two of LC's long TD runs it was blatant and very visible. At least finally 1 TD was called back for holding in the second half, so perhaps the PNG coaches got in the ref's ears pretty good during the first half, especially at the end of the first half when PNG had to score twice, on 3rd down and again on 4th down, in order to get the TD. PNG coaches were not happy at all with the non calls, and neither was I when I saw at least one defender's eyes being poked. Let's hope it's not that way in Huntsville, and it will be a good game.

Gonna be another close one. I was more impressed with Huntsville than LC last season, but that was of course last season. This season it seems that all of the O-lines are big, and the running backs are all speedsters. Hopefully that last PNG defensive stand at the end of the game, and the 4th down sack, helped the defense to turn a corner.

That makes sense. I thought (jokingly) that maybe they wanted to get to Canes before they closed. I've been seeing school buses from all over pulled in there lately. And one, I can't remember where from, was pulled into Rao's (next door to Canes) last week. -

Ha! Don't bring that up on the PNG forum, you'll have those folks all over you! But, it sure seemed like it last night. Two high powered offenses for sure. Defense made some stops, but really stepped up at the end. -

Perhaps I shouldn't have said that, but keep in mind that I was watching the game live. The one incident that I was referring to was their running back's stiff arm to the face, which actually appeared to be fingers into the eyes, of a would be tackler. I happened to be sitting in Gen Adm., right at the goal line, about 4 or 5 rows up, and thought I saw it pretty well. Also I was probably too hard on the refs last night. Refs by and large, for the past 3 seasons, just don't seem to call holding very often. They did throw a couple of flags for hits out of bounds. And the pile ups at the goal line, with the QB at the bottom of the pile, I guess a TD can be tough to call. By the time they dig down to the bottom of the pile, anything can happen. I'm hoarse this morning from yelling. Heck of a game. My grandson and his girlfriend went to the concession stand with the score tied 14-14, and by the time they returned, the score was 35-35. -

Don't forget about Montgomery, I'm thinking. What PNG needs is more speed, and a little more fire. They actually looked pretty flat tonight, but managed to come through, even with the poor refs and dirty LC players. And this may be the way it's going to be this season, with the so-called target on their back. -
Montgomery appears to be the dark horse in the district.
