How many teams in the district get into the playoffs?

The state semi finals & finals in SA? You’re right that is a long tough road. One game at a time as they say. I could be wrong but I think that 7’ post is still playing for FFA. The game I saw, which was FFA vs Silsbee in the state semi finals, they had one 7 footer. He was actually about 6’10”, 6’11” at the most. He has a Nigerian name. They had some other big post who was about 6’8”. That is what I saw. That 6’10” guy was just a sophomore. He should be a Jr this year.

Silsbee fought hard against FFA. To their credit FFA figured it out that most of the spot up 3 pt shooters for Silsbee couldn't get open on their own (talking about last season's team). So they guarded the 3 pt line. Harris and Miller were the only ones going to the bucket. Refs called some tacky tack files on Harris and he got in foul trouble... Plus FFA had a serious size advantage. That one guard they had was one of the better ballers in the state. He did his thing. I think he was a Senior and has gone on. They just recruit and load up again.

Nice outing. Better than getting beat down in the DISD.

They had to adjust at the beginning of this season: new season, changed responsibilities, Arceneaux is gone, etc. They should be fine now. Deal with eve playoffs when they get here.

True. Silsbee would have to play out of their minds just to stay within 10 of most of these schools.

I’m tempted to say it is a money issue. More like mis management of money. Yates and other HISD schools go to the state and national tournaments all the time. I guess they make up for it by cancelling on rural schools when they don’t respect.

I saw him playing for Yates @ the hoopsgiving showcase.

My aunt, my mom’s sister, & my uncle met in the hall at Wheatley high school. Jackie Carr was their class mate. I spoke to him briefly at my uncle’s funeral a few years ago. Coach Carr was still driving & getting around then. I am not sure about now.

There was a coach I knew of that was probably a roll out the ball coach. I can’t prove that. I’ve spoken to an ex NBA player who he coached. He talks glowingly of him. His son played on a highly ranked Yates team. He mostly came off the bench. He was kind of a nerd. After JY he went to Texas A&M and earned a masters in mechanical engineering. He married a 3rd ward debutante. She earned the same degree from A&M as well. I could go on & on with that story. HISD has some produced some positives.

It seems easier to move from one D-1 school to another than from one high school to another, depending on the school, coach, player, etc. If the student wants to move and be with relatives in another town, and he is willing to be restricted to JV ball to do so, then they should let him move on.
