Some of Silsbee's best basketball teams
Kountzer replied to Bmt_4now's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I never got to see David Green play. I was enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at the time, riding around in the Pacific in a cg cutter. By the time I heard his name he was a coach at central. -
7:30 would be better for me. I got late Tuesday, but it is what it is. (DPS, my employer, stays open late on Tuesdays, in Houston.) I'll see what I can do.

The real playoffs start now. Need to know when, where, and start time.

I saw two of those Fort Bend tournament games. Silsbee had their full team then. Maybe the football players were getting back into basketball, but they were there, and in the games.

I think my half brother Randy played pg on that team. I never saw them play. I was away in the military. -

That '71 team was a memorable team, '72 was also. As I remember '71 had Joe Price, Dr Larry Irvin shooting jumpers in the corner, David Brown,James Hunter. Was DLee Matthews on that team? I think he was. Some of the Bush brothers...That was a good team. I know, i'm showing my age. -
I'm guessing Friday Silsbee will play the winner of a game being played tonight. Any info on who those two teams are? I think Caldwell in one of them.

Silsbee 95 Hardin-Jefferson 64/Final

I hope they don't. History has shown it is hard to beat a team three times in a season. The year Silsbee lost to Jasper in the playoffs is an example. Central last year against Ozen is another. -

That shows how much I've been keeping up. If it is not about the Tigers I am not paying much attention. -

Silsbee's McCain injured in post game fight
Kountzer replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Actually words can get someone hurt, or worse. They can have a negative impact on a team's season as well. Now that you think about it stuff like what happened in Jasper doesn't just pop up out of nowhere. Something else urged it on. There is quite a bit of social media activity between schools, especially on twitter. i stumbled on to a beef between Silsbee students & probably athletes and WOS students, etc a few seasons ago. I remember thinking then that I would not be surprised if someone got hurt or worse behind some of these beefs. I think a Silsbee girls team did get jumped around that time, in Orange. As far as I know and can tell that beef has since been squashed. I would not be surprised if there were a similar beef between Silsbee and Jasper. At the big time D 1 college level and in the PROs what an athlete says on twitter is scrutinized constantly, by the schools and by journalists. At the high school level not so much. -

They jump teams in WOS as well. Hopefully that is not the case tonight. -

Message boards like this are like the wild wild West. You get what you get: various levels of education, various levels of literacy. Hardly anyone trained as a journalist. It is what it is. Here you get quick fast information, if you can understand it. Quite often it is true information, but ya never know. If you come to message boards looking for journalism I got some swamp land on the Louisiana border I want you to look at. -

People take this stuff too serious. It is only sports, HS sports at that. Even if the team wins a championship the only thing you get out of it is a plastic trophy, something to post on a message board, & perhaps the opportunity to make a baby that was or wasn't there previously, lol. Definitely not worth 'going in your pockets' for. With that in mind it is fortunate that this didn't turn out worse than it did. -

If the young man didn't suffer permanent damage, the legal system will probably charge the perpetrator with a misdemeanor and charge him with a fine, and let it go at that. -

I doubt she will get any money. People who commit acts of violence like that literally usually have nothing to lose. -

It is not so much about putting in the hours shooting, it is putting in the hours shooting and practicing fundamentally and technically sound basketball. I'm no expert. I've watched this for awhile though. Young ball players need a shooting coach, or a mentor at an early age, that can show them the proper way to play, to shoot a basketball. Steph Curry & his brother Seth had their dad Dell Curry to show them. Pete Maravich had his dad Press Maravich, who was a D-! coach to show him.

Silsbee 72 Hardin-Jefferson 62/Final
Kountzer replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Need to finish this season first. This time of year gets boring. That's how upsets happen. Going to a game would help but that's not happening for me. Usually Silsbee competes in a playoff game somewhere nearby, like in or near Conroe, or that community college in Baytown. Meanwhile the new Delmar field house is coming around. It looks big enough to host playoff games, tournaments, maybe even a regional final. It should be ready by next season. -
Hardin-Jefferson vs. Silsbee, by the numbers

I saw Lincoln vs Silsbee in Silsbee back in the day. I don't think I ever saw them play in Port Arthur. The beehive was definitely intense.
