  1. Message boards like this are like the wild wild West. You get what you get: various levels of education, various levels of literacy. Hardly anyone trained as a journalist. It is what it is. Here you get quick fast information, if you can understand it. Quite often it is true information, but ya never know. If you come to message boards looking for journalism I got some swamp land on the Louisiana border I want you to look at.
  2. People take this stuff too serious. It is only sports, HS sports at that. Even if the team wins a championship the only thing you get out of it is a plastic trophy, something to post on a message board, & perhaps the opportunity to make a baby that was or wasn't there previously, lol. Definitely not worth 'going in your pockets' for. With that in mind it is fortunate that this didn't turn out worse than it did.
  3. If the young man didn't suffer permanent damage, the legal system will probably charge the perpetrator with a misdemeanor and charge him with a fine, and let it go at that.
  4. I doubt she will get any money. People who commit acts of violence like that literally usually have nothing to lose.
  5. Thugs are getting bolder these days.
  6. It is not so much about putting in the hours shooting, it is putting in the hours shooting and practicing fundamentally and technically sound basketball. I'm no expert. I've watched this for awhile though. Young ball players need a shooting coach, or a mentor at an early age, that can show them the proper way to play, to shoot a basketball. Steph Curry & his brother Seth had their dad Dell Curry to show them. Pete Maravich had his dad Press Maravich, who was a D-! coach to show him.
  7. Need to finish this season first. This time of year gets boring. That's how upsets happen. Going to a game would help but that's not happening for me. Usually Silsbee competes in a playoff game somewhere nearby, like in or near Conroe, or that community college in Baytown. Meanwhile the new Delmar field house is coming around. It looks big enough to host playoff games, tournaments, maybe even a regional final. It should be ready by next season.
  8. I saw Lincoln vs Silsbee in Silsbee back in the day. I don't think I ever saw them play in Port Arthur. The beehive was definitely intense.
  9. I hope you are right Homes. Future championships are elusive.
  10. Brazosport plays Lamarque again 2/2/16 this time in Lamarque. They won at home 48-47.
  11. Brazosport has to get by Lamarque in the playoffs in reg IV.
  12. Perception is reality.
  13. Dress it anyway you want to but the first thing people think when the hear 'smoke town' is weed, or some type of drug activity. It may mean more than that, but I doubt it. That is a smoke screen. I am not living in silsbee..now, but I grew up there. The younger generation is not that unique in how they think. They are influenced by the whole hip hop thing, and drugs has always been a low key to prominent part of that ethos. That's where words like lean, and syrup, phrases like what u got in your cup, come from. Listen to the music: you got Big Mo, rip, talking about purple stuff, Pimp C, same thing, Plies 'ran off on the plug twice', etc, and on and on. I'm not judging though. Nothing is new under the sun. We were, some of us, puffing and dabbling back in the day too. Everybody got a past. Playing hide n seek with the po po. SPD gonna win their fair share of those battles. I know several guys who can't leave Sllsbee cause they got a record from drug busts. I was fortunate to leave when I did and go to the military. I only dabbled a little small time to fit in with peers. It always seemed stupid to me. Why walk around in a haze when you're already behind? My .02 on that.
  14. Someone came up with the name to promote the idea that a lot of weed is consumed and or distributed in Silsbee. It is probably more fantasy than reality. I'm sure that type of activity happens there, but no more or no less than anywhere else.
  15. I went to a home going celebration for my uncle this passed Friday. On one side of the church was a large section of purple and white, that's the color everyone was wearing. This was Wheatley class of '48, my uncle's classmates. A tall, prominent person in that section was legendary coach Jackie Carr. I talked with him briefly after service and took his picture. The pic was of poor quality. It didn't catch the contrast of the purple suit and white shirt and tie Coach was wearing. He was a nice guy. Very witty and charming. I saw him a little later pulling out the parking lot in a nice late model cadillac. I am glad to see that the coach is still doing well.
  16. QB for Clemson has a rifle arm.
  17. D Lincoln pops Paris by 10 and then moved into their # 2 spot.
  18. Re: Paris, that's a tough region, region II, especially those top teams in district 11.
  19. That is a very competitive region and district.
  20. These days I watch 2 or 3 Silsbee b-ball games a year. I may get 1 or 2 rockets games a season. Those are the only two teams I really care about. I may catch a Sam Houston HS game before the season is over. Other than that I'm good.
  21. It is only basketball. I like it but it is not that deep.
  22. Man, I miss my uncle that lived in Beaumont. Uncle Mad Dogg, aka Herman Hester, RIP.
  23. I am at work, and distracted.
  24. Cousins is fundamentally sound with a nice jumper. He needs a shrink more than anything else. Aldridge is good, Durant, also. Players like D Howard, Dandre Jordan, Corey Brewer, etc, the list is endless..Those players needed fundamental training. Too late now.
