1. No, no one else impressed me on the Bellaire team. They had a big, stout post player that was having his way under the boards, but they didn't go to him enough.
2. Max Evans. That's the guard I saw play for Bellaire against Silsbee. He had like 25 pts at halftime. The guy on the PA mic kept announcing it. Must be his uncle or something. Evans is very good, but I was more impressed with the team play of Silsbee.
3. Ricky Maze. My bad. I didn't see Silsbee play last year. The last time I saw them was the year before. I may have to make a special trip back home (Silsbee) and watch them play.
4. I'm guessing # 14 is Trey Maze. He was shooting lights out from the 3 pt arc. Silsbee was behind 6 or 7 points just before half and Maze hit 2 or 3 3s to put Silsbee back in the game. I've never seen a Silsbee team shoot that well from the outside. Bellaire had all the height & size. # 1 for Bellaire is legit. I don't know his class year, but next year or sometime soon he's gonna be playing for a college, D-1 at that. I can't wait to see what Silsbee looks like when football season is over.
5. ..no AAU lies being told; $old. There it is, right there.
6. HISD razed, tore down the old delmar basketball field house. They are in the process of building a new field house. At first it was a lot of dirt. Now you can see a new building starting to rise. When it is finished the field house should be one of the better locations to watch high school basketball in this part of the state. I work in that area.
7.
This is more about the UIL as a governing body than it is about the kid.  Being pulled up for the playoffs and going to the state tourney gettin medals seems like participation to me.  If it's not and there is no benefit for the kid or the team, why they do it? UIL is weak, always takes the easy way out. Eventually they will lose funding as they are not living up to their purpose. Congrats to the Tigers, but it will take a lot more than this to even up with what UIL ignores in Dallas and Houston.
Nice post.   If Chris is playing this year I will re double my efforts to attend games.
8. I agree with what you are saying.  Coach Sigler and the Silsbee players do a good job, great job of maximizing the talent they have.  I keep going back to the last half, the last quarter, of that Yates game.  The Lions did not want to run.  Silsbee was winning the press and run game.  Coach Wise did the smart thing and took the air out of the ball.  Silsbee continued to force it inside, which was collapsed.  So the Tigers started clanking long threes. Yates started hitting 3 pointers. Silsbee misses resulted in long rebounds and an inflated final score of 15 points deficit.  That game was closer than that. If you play ball, no matter how tall you are, you need a jumper, a 3pt jumper, a stop n pop 3 pt jumber, and a mid range stop n pop jumper.  Developing those skills is easier said than done.  If the goal is to get past teams like Yates in region 3, 3A, and maybe even upsetting Dallas Madison, or Dallas Lincoln, whoever comes from up there, you need those types of skills on your team.
9.
Seriously, I think Silsbee will go to the same round as last year. Third and home. Yates will dominate 3A Region 3 again this year.
Perhaps.  I'm sure Yates and Coach Wise are undaunted by losing the championship to Dallas what'sitname.  I forgot the team's name.  As I've stated before the Tigers need a half court game that features accurate outside shooting.
One way to find out is ask Elton the next time I see him.  I've been knowing him since kindergarten, or was it the first grade at Frank Robinson?  His big bro. Perry got outta dodge (Silsbee) long time ago. Left for Cali, but I digress.

Saying they treating players like pieces of meat and would get beat by 14U teams wouldn't be something I would think an alum would be doing.
I'm not talking down on Silsbee. That's in general around here... So many HS coaches use the kids instead of get them prepared for college. And about the 14U teams beating Silsbee, I'm not taking anything away from Silsbee... But I'm honest... There are 14U teams that would compete in our district... It's irrevelant but it's true.
Is there any chance that you havent been "at this" long enough to honestly know the differences between Silsbee/HJ/WOS compared to 14 year old AAU teams?
BINGO!!!!
They didn't have AAU teams back in the day.  I've heard of AAU teams.  I know they play during the off season, during the summer.  I've never seen an AAU team play.  Once the regular high school season is over, and the various state champions are selected, I drop this topic til the next season.  I may make a comment of two here or there, but for the most part I'm done. Having said all that I didn't know 14U meant 14 year old aau.  Learn something new everyday.
13. what's a 14U team?  You don't know, you don't know.
14. Elam and Holmes were a dynamic guard tandem last year.  Hopefully someone is stepping up to take Holmes spot on the court.  I only saw two games last season, three actually, but the first didn't count cause the best players were in the football playoffs.  I saw the game against Kashmere at Kashmere.  Lots of memories, kashmere gardens, and trinity gardens are like second home towns.  I saw the playoff game against Kashmere in Baytown.  I didn't know there were fights in the stands until the next day.  Elam is quick as a snake, Holmes was too. And, I saw the game against Yates in Huntsville.  I've already said enough about that game. I enjoy watch Chris Elam play. With his senior leadership the Tigers should be a force in both football and basketball.
15. This was just La Grange's year.  They smoked that team from Texarkana in the championship game, and won state.
16. Silsbee was in control when I left, in the 5th inning I think.  Diboll's baseball team may be a team of destiny this year.  From what I've heard and even seen a bit, they have an uncanny way of fighting back and overcoming the odds.  That's the sign of a mentally tough team.  Silsbee's good, very good.  If they can take two straight from Diboll-well, I don't know.  Silsbee defintely got their work cut out for them.
17. According to the map that is the softball field I just mentioned.  The baseball field is not far away at the corner of cullen and elgin.
18. I'm usually no where near this msg board this time of year.  I may go to this game though.  The only baseball field on U of H campus I know of is adjacent to Scott street, not too far from Popeye's chicken, lol.  If that's not it then I'm lost.  I'll find it though.
19.
Also Damien Bush of Silsbee have 32pts 10steals 11assists and 7rebs when Silsbee beat Lincoln back in 94 at the Beehive.
I saw Damian Bush and Silsbee play Lincoln is 95.  If Silsbee could of gotten by PA that year that would of won state.  Silsbee had these two stocky 6'5" post players.  I wonder what happened to them?  Lincoln had Steve Jackson in is jr year, just before he transferred to Oak Hill.
20. Wheatley won that game, but it wasn't a blow out.  They won state that year.
21. Back in '73 I saw this guard for Houston Sterling, named Kenny (I forgot his last name) go up against Wheatley in the playoffs.  The game was at Hofeinz Pavilion.  Legendary Wheatley Coach Jackie Carr considered that '73 Wheatley team his best ever.  They were like 43-1 that year.  Nobody gave Sterling a chance.  Everyone at the game was there to see this great Wheatley team. Kenny had some mad handles.  He consistently broke the famous Wheatley press.  Dude was dribbling behind his back, between his legs, etc..  Then he would come down, shoot a 15 footer with all kinds of hands in his face.  He would double clutch the shot and kiss it off the glass.  He did this several times. He scored almost 40 pts.  Wheatley could not stop him.  When he wasn't scoring Kenny kept setting up his big man for easy lay ups under the rim.  His big man was this big 6'5" Italian guy named Lee Canalito.  Canalito is somewhat famous.  He's a big time trainer in Houston.  If you don't believe me, look him up.  I think Canalito had something like 20 pts and 15 rebounds in that game.  Canalito went on the act in some Sly Stallone movies.  He was also an undefeated heavyweight boxer, 21-0. Kenny the guard got a basketball scholarship to Sam Houston State.  Sadly he was shot and killed while allegedly breaking into someone's home in Huntsville, Tx.  They had a big write up about it in the Houston papers.  Just the same, that was the greatest single game performance I've ever seen in high school basketball.
22. So, is Justin Harper from Kountze related to Willaim Harper who played for Silsbee a few years ago?
23. That happened here in Texas a few years ago, at the 5A title game.  Kid playing for a San Antonio team hit a long buzzer beater.  One can only imagine how good 'life' was for him the rest of that school year.
24. Up until maybe 15-20 years ago aau and summer league teams weren't allowed by the UIL.  The argument was heard that now allowing aau stuff was hurting the overall basketball talent coming out of Texas.  The rules were changed, aau, summer leagues were allowed. The end result is the recruiting and free agency stuff we have now.

There's another Holmes, Sidney III, who is a So. Jordan's younger brother I'm sure.  Does he play football and basketball?  I get those two mixed up.  they look a lot alike.
Sidney plays all three sports, football, basketball and baseball.
The poetry of it all.  Sidney SR took his kids to all the games back in the day.
