1. Well, I got to see the Silsbee Tigers play a basketball game again.  I connected with some old friends.  I saw an exciting game.  Too exciting.  Better FT shooting would of put this game away in double digits.  The Tigers did their best, and that is all you can ask.  Bryan Rudder has an impressive team, especially 24 Marquis Taylor.  Pheal Hill is the heart of the Silsbee team.  He's a lot like his dad.  I don't know what his time in the 40 is, but if it is good he would make a good defensive back. I got to shake hands with Aggies We are.. It was a good night. DB aka Kountzer
2. Kountze has Silsbee's number, or so it seems.  Mind you, I am a Silsbee alumni.
3. Hmmm.  Silsbee is playing @ college prk h/s thursday.  This game has potential.  I might show up.
4. I doubt seriously if all of the Yates players grew up in the third ward area.  High school basketball stars play AAU in the offseason.  It is very easy to arrange a bunch of aau all stars to attend the same school.  This is easy to do in a large school district in a large urban area like Houston. So, with all that in mind, Yates would probably beat the '92 HJ team.
5. I never saw it.  Neither did the NBA.
6.

Carl Dukes (ESPN Radio) interviewed one of Yate's player's father.  I believe his last name is Young and he is an asst coach at UH.  In the third quarter there was a bench clearing brawl in which both teams had their benches ejected from the game and play was halted for 15 minutes.  Mr. Young defended this as something that happens in sports.  Maybe proffessional sports.  I've never seen a bench clearing brawl in High School.  Then he went on to say that Yates only knows one way to play (press all the time) and that these kids need to play like that to show off to the scouts to get into the best colleges.  Seeing as how most of these players will eventually be making a living doing something other than playing basketball, its sad to see that their coach and father won't be contributing to making them better adults.
Not for sure but I believe the Mr. Young you are referring to is Michael Young.  He played at Yates in high school then went to UH as part of Phi Slamma Jamma and played some in the pros (only team I remember was the Celtics).
I hope Michael Young's son has a  better and more accurate jumpshot than he did.  Back in '83 he could not buy two points.  If he could of hit a few corner jumpers U of H, Phi slamma Jamma, etc, would of beat NC State and won the NCAA championship, and coach Guy V Lewis would be in the basketball hall of fame. 7. There are lots of poor and working class immigrants living near Lee High School.   Basketball is not the sport of choice in that area.  it is probably soccer.  It is an old and run down school.  There are some affluent families in that area.  They send their children to expensive private schools.   Yates running up the score on Lee is classless.   That would be like one of the big suburban schools beating Yates by 10 runs in baseball.  It is too easy to do, and therefore not that big a deal.
8. I had a chance to attend that Yates game.  All day yesterday I was turning it over in my head, should I go to the Yates game, or should I stay committed to a prior appointment.  I ended up going with the prior appointment.  Butler fieldhouse is only a few miles from where I was working. I don't think I wanted to see a game like that anyway.
9. What is the status of the injury to Silsbee basketball player Stallworth?
10. Competition in that tournament near Fort Worth, like last year, against teams like Sanger, would of been a better test of the Silsbee team.
11. Fundamental basketball skills have declined noticable in the NBA.  That has been in the news at least ten years to twenty years now.  It used to be that in the World games or the olympics you could take a team of NCAA stars and take on the world.  Now, a team of NBA allstars can't even do it.  The rest of the world has caught up.  I think it started with ESPN.  ESPN sportscenter nba highlights focus on the monster dunk.  Fundamentals BBall skills seldom make the top plays shown on sportscenter.  The high school kids emulate their nba role models.
12. Whoa.  Lotta bball between here and the playoffs, much less Austin.  More observations: you can't put much stock in early polls.  NW is prolly ranked #1 in 2A based on last year.  An argument can be raised that Kountzer should be ranked higher in the 2A polls since they beat Sislbee once already this year, and New Waverly lost to them.  Last but not least New Waverly is 2A, & Silsbee is 3A.
13. I live about a mile from Eisenhower high school, give or take a tenth of a mile or so.  I have no idea how good their basketball team is.
14. Good game and nice season Tigers.  Now on to basketball season.  Best wishes to Navasota.  I'm afraid a serious beat down by Gilmer is in store for you though.
15.
Yeah its on friday I will get to go.
Why does playing the game on Friday make  a difference?
16. Leave it to Gilmer to drop some understanding on what the real deal is.  I was hoping Jasper could somehow work a miracle, but hey, it is what it is.
17. Obviously Carthage didn't lose much talent from last year's team.  They are the class of 3A in this area, and again, maybe the state.
18. Silsbee's pass defense didn't look good last year against Davis. I thought maybe they had improved since then. These days the QBs and the receivers play 7 on 7 all off season. If a team doesn't have a defense to stay on the field with that, they can get torched all night. Plus, Eastex schools like Diboll, Gilmer Cameron Coe, etc., those places are dangerous on the gridiron these days.
19. It's not that they are bad, they just don't have the numbers that you would think a 1,600 enrollment 4A would have. They only suited out 20 players while Silsbee has 36 on varsity. Davis was pretty good last year, going 9-2 and advancing to the 3rd round. They defeated Yates last year for the first time in 30 years. They had some pretty good players last year. That is not the case this year though. They still had a few pretty good ones, just not enough. Houston Chronicle does have them making the playoffs this year. Anyone have an idea where Castillo, Davis' QB last year, where did he go? I am thinking maybe a JUCO, but not sure. Davis had a nice passing attack in that game last year. Usually they are not that good. The last sports star they had, that I can remember, plays center field for the tampa bay devil rays. namely Carl Crawford.
20. Where are they playing the Silsbee vs. Houston Davis game? Last year it was at Delmar Stadium. I would assume it is the same this year, but I want to be sure. Kountzer aka DB, Silsbee raised, livng in NW Houston
21. It is probably someone on the Yates team.
22. Ponder whacked 3A Arglye earlier this season, and Argyle has been in the top 5 of the 3A polls all season.
23. It is a private school. And as such they are able to recruit on a national and even international basis. that's why they have a good basketball program. Back in the day Silsbee used to play them in football. Strake was a small school then, and Silsbee could usually count that game as a victory. Those days are gone, especially in basketball.
24. Dallas Madison beat Argyle 48-46. No doubt Argyle went into stall ball to keep the score that low. ~ Kountzer ~
