Little Cypress-Mauriceville 63 vs. Bullard 60/FINAL

The cotton classic is a nice change of pace. The DISD tournament was a much stronger field, at least for this season anyway. -

It seems like I've seen the same district schools since I was in middle school. LCM, Bridge City, WOS. Some schools got bigger & moved up to 5A. Some dropped to 3A. Some schools closed. The district has not been that strong in 20 years. In that time frame Silsbee has been to the final four 4 or 5 times, and won two championships. To make up for district play coach Sigler always plays s tough non district schedule. Some guy from the plex was talking about how district 19 is so weak and how the Houston district is so strong. Obviously he has not paid attention for long cause for Silsbee to get to the finals in SA they had to march through 4A Houston everytime. -
The class of 1972 was a very athletic class. They went deep in the playoffs in football. They went even deeper in the basketball playoff, going to the final four in Austin. Rufus Cook and the baseball team made the playoffs. In track James Hunter was putting up some amazing track times in the sprints. Hunter was high school all American in football. David Brown was all American in basketball. They did not win a chip but a lot of classes did not either.

Yep, Beaumont High Gym. Which later became Central high school.

I've seen those clips. Need some PA LHS clips from the 70s, back when Earl Evans Was playing.

I was at that game. The player for Wheatley was Eddie Owens. He went to UNLV but didn't pan out. Kountze played Wheatley maybe the season before and lost by maybe 4 pts., gave a run.
-
I remember those names now. Except Walter Williams; I can't place him.
-
ok Eddie Owens

Back in the day in 1972 Silsbee played Wilmer Hutchins in the gym at SFA. That is the only time I've really been to Nacogdoches or SFA. I've passed thru there a few times, but never stopped except that one time. The joke going around after the game, which Silsbee won was Silsbee students came out and headed for the buses chanting 'we're number 1! Then the opposing fans started throwing and raining down rocks. The chant quickly changed to "y'all let's run!" lol. That win got Silsbee to Austin, to state. Historic names on that team were people like 6'7" David Brown, James Hunter, James Simmons, Eddie Hobbs, etc. I wish there were some film to show how good those guys could play.

Willam Harper I remember. ...red's son.

That should calm down some of those Carter fans. They were getting on my nerves. -

Sulphur Springs is in Region II. Good place for them. -

Furr got some runners and shooters. Washington got the same and even more height. I not sure what kind of bench either team has. How the refs call the game could be a factor. If possible Silsbee needs to run trap and press as much as possible, amap. -

Will PA Memorial get Ayden Wilson or will PNG? -
Bridge City 62 Silsbee 99/FINAL

From the JV #3 Johnson, #14 Shouldfers, #30 Adams, and a few more could play on the varsity right now IMO. 14 can do everything Bottley does, and I like Bottley a lot, especially on defense. -
I consider Cypress to be NW Houston or Harris County proper. Central NW Houston is closer in. It would be acres homes, Inwood. NW Park, etc.
-
Storms tore through central NW Houston. We were blessed that a tornado did not touch down nearby.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville 47 Silsbee 80/FINAL

He’s a Shoulders I think. -
35-18 Silsbee, at the half.
-
Bottley is a problem on defense. He has a high motor, constantly moving… Harris is warming up.
-
Jasper got some runners and ball handlers, but I think they’re getting fatigued.
-
They’re not shooting good inside or outside.
-
Harris made the crowd roar, but the camera didn’t show the play.
-
D Mill hit some outside shots. Everyone else are shooting cold.
-
Silsbee 14-7.
