  1. Pretty hard to believe that would be the free throw count as aggressively as yall play in the press the whole game. Not a good look especially in a 9 point game. The no calls were as bogus as it seems, the free throw count just proves that.
  2. We didn't shoot many free throws against yall either, lol.
  3. Not taking anything away from Kirbyville or making any excuses for the team shooting percentage, but the boys total focus was on Zane's 1,000 point night and getting up enough to unload the bench. Whitmire never really runs it up on anyone and as a parent we are totally good with that. He is teaching our boys more than basketball.
  4. Great young man and teammate! Everyone is super proud for Zane and his family! It's a real honor to join his brother Peyton Wrinkle on that 1,000 Point List!
  5. Fair enough, I'm just saying that collectively as a team it was the best effort that I have seen from them on D all season. Especially with a deep high powered team like Kountze. We look forward to the rematch at home on Feb 9th.
  6. When mistakes were made they hustled to get back on D. Bobcats understood their assignment, just came up a little short.
  7. We appreciate you being there and the coverage of the game. I agree, either scenario could have taken place. Hats off to both teams for executing good game plans that made it difficult on each other and the battle it was supposed to be. In Orangefield's case our big 2 in Scales and Wrinkle did what they do and their percentages backed up who we all think they are. They just needed to take care of the ball better and get more help from other role players in the big games. We all look forward to running it back in Orangefield next time and hope officiating will be better as well. Sells, Donald, Wrinkle & Scales all crossed each other out. It came down to the supporting cast and who was more big game ready. We believe in our boys as a team and that they will figure it out. I look forward to the next game being even better!
  8. ORANGEFIELD @ KOUNTZE RESCHEDULED FOR THIS WEDNESDAY JANUARY 17TH.
  9. We really appreciate the kind words and the fair assessment. There is no denying Kountze is deeper than we are, but our Cardia Cats have a special unselfish bond that makes us all believe. Myself and my son totally believe in his teammates and their ability to pull together as brothers and support each other. Going to be a lot of fun to see so much talent executing their coaches game plans for sure!.
  10. Yes, as of 4:40 this afternoon Orangefield school was still scheduled.. There could be more alerts through the night though.
  11. Any idea how that will work if they do push it out due to weather? Can we play an extra game during the week to make it up or would we play again at the end of District? I'm not sure about UIL Rules on this one.
  12. Yes, Im told Scales got the tech for saying "they have to go for the ball when fouling". The player had grabbed Smith from behind to foul, so he felt he needed to address it. We are still working on that, lol. I am on nights and wasn't able to be there, but I was told this directly.
  13. Thank you very much for saying that sir! It means a ton!
  14. I already said I anticipate Anuhuac being a good game. Can't take any game for granted.
  15. I appreciate you sharing the numbers. Interesting stuff for sure. I can tell you in our blowouts, Scales and Wrinkle both set most of the 2nd half, and by most I mean at least a quarter in a half out each. Im not sure how Kountze runs it but Kountze is deeper and going to their bench probably isnt as much of a drop off as we see in OF. There have been several games where we could have gotten 100, but we back off the gas and let the bench have fun. Sometimes the numbers can be misleading though. Last year, we lost to EC by 16 and 18 (if I'm not mistaken), Kountze split with EC in very close games but none the less beat them once. Oddly enough, we beat Kountze pretty decisively both times we played them. I guess that is why it is called a sport, and on any given night, anything can happen.
  16. Totally agree, Coach Whitmire is great and we are glad to have him. Joubert's resume speaks for itself as well. I think Tuuesday will be a lot of fun as well!
  17. I understand man, but I didnt pick our schedule. We travel the country all offseason trying to play the best so Ghost can keep getting those matchups. I wish all the games were the tough ones in high school as well, but that just isnt how high school sports work. Like I said, if both teams show up the way I know they can, then it will be an all out war. If the Bobcats dont show up and execute a very good game plan form tip off it will show very quickly. Nothing worth having ever comes easy and that is what makes it fun! I hope Tuesday night is all its cracked up to be!
  18. To me Orangefield's biggest issue when we play elite caliber teams is the fact that they face guard Scales and the others try to play 4 on 4 rather than finding ways to keep our best scorer involved. He had 15 in the 1st quarter against EC the other night, but only 5 more for the rest of the game. He finished 7/11 for a game high 20 points. At the half, no one else had scored outside of Wrinkle and Scales. What would the score have been if there was more focus on screening to get Scales free and clearing out the floor? He doesnt average near the shot attempts that others get to put up the same kinds of numbers. I realize that if they facegaurd and commit others to not letting Scales get any decent looks then it should leave others open to score, but that doesnt work for us against really elite teams that can put up big points like we can when Scales is involved. Wrinkle consistently puts up numbers along with Scales but we have to get more from the supporting cast to be able to beat Kountze's, the Westwoods, and the Chappel Hills. And by consistency, I dont always mean scoring, I mean doing whatever it takes to win. Playing D, rebounding the basketball, sprinting up the floor. Passing up a decent shot to get a great shot, etc . Alot of our downfalls against the really good teams, is just nerves and some of the boys needing to s ettle in under the bright lights.
  19. Yes, the Kountze depth I believe is the key to their success as well. I also think that their role players know their roles and stick to them. Sells has always been their leading scorer and now Donald has emerged as their 1,2 punch. Add that to some good outside shooting and guys that know what the right play is, and you will have a winning team. In Orangefield's case, we are very talented, but aren't as deep as we'd like to be. Losing 7 Seniors last year didn't help with depth and we definitely struggle rebounding the ball. The team is very unselfish and we have guys settling in, so I know we will keep getting better. I'd anticipate Anuhuac being another good game Friday night, and Kountze next Tuesday to be an all out War if the both teams show up the way I know they can.
  20. Yes, OF beat EC but I knew they were better than what they had showed against Kountze last Friday. They gave us a good game and played well.
  21. It's all about matchups, and anyone who knows basketball knew a Coach Sutherland Team would respond to the loss they took against Kountze the other night. Proud to come out with the win and appreciate the close game because it forces players to understand where they need to improve to become better as a team.
