1. The old saying just keeps ringing in my ears this morning, "Sometimes your the hammer, sometimes your the nail". Not hard to figure out who was who last night. Great job CS-O, no doubt you were the better team! Keep playing at this level for a couple more rounds!!! To my Mustangs, go work hard this off season. Do everything ask of you and with all we have coming back next year, we will get our shot again.  ;)
That's probably the playoff roster. Most teams bring up kids so they can get a feel for the playoff experience.
During the Silsbee game I counted 36...
 3.
i hope we travel better than we have in the past to big games. i hope our side is packed!
I thought we have had a pretty good crowd during our playoff run. Even the first game against Cleveland, I figured there wouldn't be as many folks with the Little Mustangs playing in 3 superbowls the same day, but we had a good showing.
Probably. But the same can't really be said for 3adownlow, where WO-S leads the poll with 69%. Guess what? POLLS, STATS, PREVIOUS SCORES, RANKINGS, POTENTIAL D1 STARS, etc. MEAN NOTHING at this point! I remember when WO-S had THE best defense in 4A about a decade ago. We had seven or eight shutouts. Did a LaMarque team that was having a "down year" care? Nope. They pulled the upset.
AMEN 92, and you forgot to add 40 times and track state titles as well... This is a football game, not a track meet and all our 40 times will get us is about as many points as their defensive stats and record against common opponents will get them. It's about match ups and who wins the war in the trenches.

Who have you shut out this year?
We havent shut out many opponets because we didnt scrimmage and play 2a schools or weak 3A schools in the pre district schedule we played 4A playoff  teams like Vidor 4A 3rd round team we beat them. Nederland 4A 3rd round team we lost by 1 Friendswood 4A playoff team we lost by one in 2Ot's trust me we are battle tested if Coldsprings played that schedule they wouldnt have made it out alive
Did WOS shut out Orangefield? NO. CS did. Did WOS shut out Bridge City? NO. CS did. Did WOS shut out Cleveland? NO. CS did.
Hey Falconfanatic, you wanna handle this one?  ;)

WO-S' defense has always been built to stop the run first.  Coldspring is in for a serious challenge.  If the Mustangs eliminate turnovers and cut down on penalties, I like our chances to advance.
Coldspring's defense is one dimensional too lol...Lights OUT..Only giving up 88 points in 13 ball games...Best in State... ;D
It will be the toughest defense we've faced, IMO. But, we have seen some pretty good ones this year.

LMAO You were justifying the quality of a team based on who they lost to. I just justified the quality of a team based on who they beat... :P
Cs has played a lot better opponents in the playoffs than wos has. Just like wos played better opponents in the regular season and struggled while cs rolled.
I could have bought that until 5-5 Lorena took CS to the brink... The "stiffer competition" thing went out the door with that one... Now, it doesn't matter. I'm a believer of 1 or 100, just win. But, you lost that angle when you almost lost to Lorena, sorry. I believe these tough games are good for Coldspring. They know they are beatible and will prepare for this game like it will be their last one. They have been in tough games before and make no mistake about it, this game will be a dog fight till the end.
this CS team knows how to handle adversity and have been tested throughout the playoffs and that is how champions are made. No angle, just the truth.
I can respect that. My posts are for those trying to make excuses for what we have done in the playoffs so far. Not trying to take anything away from CS.
 9. Bullard just knocked Robinson (who beat Lorena) out of the playoffs. We just beat Bullard by 32...
 10. I don't make predictions, but CS is a running team and that plays right into the strength of the WOS defense. The CS QB was 1-8 with 4 INT's last night, they appear to be one dimensional. This game will be about matchups and I think WOS may have an advantage there. On the flip side, Salter did have 3 INT's on the day himself, but he also still had 3 TD's and well over 100 yds passing, I'm sure. He has 1800 yds passing for the season. Both teams have great running games, but WOS is anything but one dimensional.

I hope WOS travels a little better than they did today. Just an observation , I think the weather kept a lot of the good folks from Orange off the road.
Actually I thought there seemed to be a lot more WOS in the stands today than on Bullards side. Come to think of it... I think 5-10% of those were from Coldspring. ;)
I agree, I thought we had a pretty good turn out. It'll be better next week.

 14. In most defenses (the 50 especially), if your interior line is doing their job, the linebackers do make the majority of tackles...
 15.
Lorena, since mid-season, has built a strong defense, anchored by the #1 and #2 leading tacklers in central texas (2A-5A see Waco Trib Stats Plus) with 188 and 165 tackles; one of those the 2009 Supercentex Newcomer of the Year. Allowed Rusk into the redzone only twice and held on 1st and goal from the 9. Blanked them 40-0. Offensively, Lorena struggled with finishing and 3rd and 4th down conversions through mid-season. Sr qb close to the top in central texas in passing wth over 1000 yds passing and a has a 600 yd receiver. Week 9 sophomore move-up qb has rushed for over 1500 yds and passed for over 1000 yds on the season at 6'0 210 lbs. They have figured out the finishing part. Zero red-zone stops in the last 3 games and converted on 100% 3rd and 2 and 4th and 2 in the past 4 games. 3 qb system with 3rd sr qb having carried the team through season and playoffs last year. 3 of these sr offensive players saw playing time when Lorena beat Coldspring in '09. Lorena took La Vega to the edge, with 1st and goal from the 8 for the win. 2 offsides plays later, Lorena had trouble finishing in a 7-point game. Again, Lorena has figured out how to finish. Of course, the only thing that seperated LV and the #1 team turned out to be 3 yards. CS is forced to prepare this week for ground and air. Lorena is not. Good luck to CS.
Thanks for the post and the information. One thing I would like to add, however, is that if Lorena isn't preparing for the pass, that would be a gross miscalculation. While it might not e their strong suit. CS did pass for over 120 yds last week.
 16. I think the WOS offensive line is one factor that keeps on improving. They had their struggles early on, but they have been blosing people off the line beginning in the Silsbee game. They are the main reason for the offensive explosion the last several games.
 17. The way I see it, if you are 12-0 and still the reigning champ in Region 3, how could anyone think you are over rated? This time of the year you just win, by 1 or 100, it don't matter.
 18.
I think the defense is gonna take us to Dallas and the offense will eventually get us going.  I think this will be another tough game.  No doubt these first two games have helped us tremendously learn some things about ourselves and improve at the same time. We are very fortunate to get past those two.  I'm really looking forward to a matchup against WOS if we can get past Lorena.  I'm like most around here.  I just don't understand all the negativity from so many against us.  I root for all the area teams including the Mustangs.
I don't think most WOS fans root against CS. I myself, hope that we both win this week. I want to see us match up with the reigning DII Region III champs.
 19. Bullard is the ultimate underdog, for sure. They were picked to come in last place in their district and ended up taking second place to Chapel Hill. They were no where near as athletic as Robinson, but led that game, at one point, 50-27. They aren't big and aren't fast, but they feel like they are a team of destiny and that is a scary thing and they will make you pay for mistakes. The Mustangs have to be focused and continue to play the way they have. They have been playing with a lot of heart as well. We cannot have turnovers, thats what Bullard used to seperate from Robinson. This game is scary to me just because Bullard believes they are a team of Destiny. They think they are going to win and they aren't intimidated by us. We have to come out and play worthy of the 3rd round. If we do that, I think we win. If we don't then they will slay another giant.
 20. I agree, still gotta get better each week. You have no games off this time of year.
 21. Trigger, aren't you a Huffman fan?
Yes, absolutly true. Horrible. Our kids showed just how disciplined they are. With the punches, the pushes and even ripping off our players helmets, they didn't get distracted. Just kept scoring touchdowns. The Columbus team and their coach is garbage.
Great job Mustangs. Way to maintain composure. Keep on representing!!!!
It started early with trash talk and just got worse. WOS players had the strength of character to walk away each time.  "IF" the Columbus players could have got our guys into a fist fight, WOS  might have been kicked out of the playoffs.  It was so bad that the two teams did not shake hands after the game.  It looked to me like Coach T. was preaching to the players about how damaging fighting could be for the future of this wonderful team. You Mustang Players need to know how "PROUD" us fans are of you when you "JUST WALK AWAY".
+1
