8.
Skipper, you have more excuses than a 3-year-old.  You can blame it on the turnovers, or WOS inability to stop Coldspring in the 1st half.  You can't dig a 3 TD deficit in one half and expect to make a comeback.  WOS struggled most of the season generating offense, and the defense was there like usual to keep them in games.  This is the one game all season where the defense slipped up a little, and the offense didn't have their backs.  You can't play one half of football in the playoffs and win.  Period.
Finally, something we agree on.
Even if Dan Ray were to retire(which I don't think he is), there are far worse things than to turn this team over to Cornell or Toby. WOS is in good hands as far as I am concerned. One of the top staffs if not the best in our area. Handing the team to Cornell for a few years and then Toby is the way it should be. In fact, I would be in favor of letting Toby get the call. The question is, what will the administration do? Will they pull some lame brain stunt and get some outsider? That could cause several of the current coaches to go elsewhere. That would be a very big mistake!
I agree with you AAW, but like td said, it should be T's to take then Toby. If this school board does anything else there is just no justice in them. Cornel has been as loyal as Dan and deserves the position when that time comes.
Why kill the thread?  This is a legitimate question and topic, just let the moderators monitor it to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.  The question is "Is this the beginning of the end of the Hooks era?"  Coach Hooks has been coaching for many years and this will ALWAYS be a question to answer after each season whether there is turmoil or not. I'm sure Hooks loves to coach or he wouldn't have hung in there so long, but the real question is "How long does Hooks feel like fighting all of the surrounding issues outside of the X's and O's".  The scary part for wos is that if the fans feel that the school board and officials are making bad decisions and overriding what Hooks wants (after all the things he has done for the school)...then what do you think things will be like when Hooks retires and the board "hand picks" who they want to replace him?  Everyone seems to have their own opinion of who the heir apparent will be, but the board has the ultimate responsibility of recommending a coach to the Superintendent. Earlier in this thread someone finished their post with the sentence "Everything is fine in Mustang land" (or something to that effect) Well, just because you say something over and over doesn't necessarily make it true.
This is an incorrect assessment, the board NEVER makes recommendations for professionals to the Superintendent.  All recommendations are to come to the board from the Superintendent.  Now if it is this way in WOS then they do have some serious problems! Coach Hooks will remain in WOS as long as he wants, and I would have to say that this man has dedicated his life to the WEST ORANGE COMMUNITY!  Any other coach with this mans record, with any other motives would never have stayed dropping from 5A then to 4A and now to 3A.  He would have moved long ago to stay in the mix with bigger schools.  Coach Hooks does alot more for the community than coach football as was stated earlier - he grows boys into men.  Some don't turn out like he wants but all that go through his program have the opportunity to succeed. I don't think you will find any other 3A school with the adversity this school has, and is facing with a better record.  Great Job Coach Hooks for last however many years it has been!
Good post 88.

If I remember correctly all the blame in the past years when the Stangs lost was on the shoulders of the offensive coordinator . Why the change?
What are you talking about? No one has blamed anyone for anything. We are discussing the possible situations if Dan were to retire. Are you trying to take this in another direction? ???
Come on now you dont remember all the stang supporters on here bashing the ex oc in past losses in the playoffs? I'm not trying to take this in any direction I was just asking a question. This thread was apparently started because WOS had a loss in the first round, I think they had a great year considering the underclassmen on the team.
This thread doesn't have anything to do with the loss, but has to do with the end of another season. There has been talk for several years about Dan retiring. I think it is a logical question and has nothing to do with blame about a loss. I agree with you, I thought we played well at times and am looking forward to next year.
 12. 1, to 5A Memorial.

 14. Orange don't offer the same things as the Austin area, DFW, or Houston The list would maybe be long, but I don't think there would be lots of big time, proven coaches out there want this job.
Agreed.  There won't be many "big names" scrambling to a 3A school.
If Dan does retire, it needs to come from inside. Cornel Thompson knows the kids and the community and should be the obvious heir apparent. He would stay here until he retires. Then, possibly, T Foreman after that. If they were to screw that up and go outside, not only would the program suffer, but the AD position would become nothing but a revolving door where coaches trying to make a name for themselves will spend a few seasons to try and win a few games to bolster their resume then move on. It happens all over Texas.
 15. For those of you who hav never been there. This stadium is one of the nicest around. Great food there! It will be a treat.

I have disagreed with you in the past and always will on certain issues but we are on the same page with this one. It is about making boys into men. Some people will never understand because until you have been there you won't.
This is why I like you Bleed! Good post S4L, as always!

Why does every post about anything  happening over there, be it kids getting in trouble or them OMG losing a football game, devolve to this same tired conversation?
It is not tired, something needs to be done. I left the district because of overemphasis on anything but sports. There are good folks there, both white and black and they deserve better. Most would move if they could afford to do so. Football amounts to a diversion to real troubles in the school. They need a new Supt. or Trustees or someone to save that district. If things don't change, TEA is going to come to town and shake things up.
WOW!!  They lose one football game and the beheadings begin.  Before the game was even over there was talk of the possibility of the no more Hooks.  Now we are not only getting rid of Hooks but the other coaches and  the Supt., the trustees the board members, the administration, and probably before its over a few teachers.  Whos's next??  Hey does anyone have any dirt on the Janitors or the Cafeteria lady?  I bet thats whos really to blame here!!
Seriously Ryker? None of these conversations were started by WOS people so don't even try going down that road.
 19.
I will agree to meet in the middle, Gas. ;) ;D 17 returning starters, not 15, nor 19. ;)
I will agree with that.

 21.
According to the roster I had tonight, WOS had 6 senior starters, not 3. Throw in Franks and that's 7 seniors that start that will be lost. I counted 15 returning starters.
Aggies, Franks only played 5 games, a junior started in his place... We only had 2 full time starters on offense that were seniors, #85 and #53. Haynes played in spots and played more last night on offense than usual, but he didn't start. On defense, 2 of the 5 seniors that started have been out for several weeks with injuries so Sophomores started in their place as well. For about half of the season, you only had 3 (and 2 a few games) seniors starting on defense and 2 on offense.
What happened in '86? ;D Like I said in another post...The route to the quarterfinals is not that bad.Not any real overpowering teams until you get there.Any team in our bracket (with a few exceptions ) has a shot.
this ain't gonna to be a repeat of 86.  guaranteed!   ;D
Judging by the smile, I'm assuming that he means that we will not get the chance to play Jasper again in the qtr finals more than he is downing our chances.
