*OF vs. Newton Updates/Newton wins! 62-40
Gasilla replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was at this game, I am a Mustang fan and I agree with your post 100%. I also think OF is going to beat the snot out of BC (just had to throw that in there). ;D -
The only thing OF needs to do is get better on defense. That offense is awesome and they ran up and down the field on a pretty good Newton team. They were in that game until about midway through the 4th qtr. This district is not going to be the push over it has been. If the Mustangs don't change the trend of the last couple of games, they could be the odd man out. We will see Friday, Brookshire has speed and is very scrappy.

Just a question here, but how do you make a team "ease up" or better yet, how do you define that? Do you kneel the ball on every offensive play? Do you tell your RB's or QB that, if they see open field, fall down? Being someone who has coached a little, I'm just wondering because there are times that you sub out kids who have never even carried the ball in a game and they even score. Sometimes, it can't be helped. I think it's a bit ridiculous to automatically throw out the "running up the score" card. Sometimes, you just have so much more talent or speed that you either score or risk further embarassment for your opponent by kneeling the ball on first, second or third downs. This happens a lot in the youth leagues where that can be a huge difference in a teams abilities. I'm not trying to stir the pot either, and I also don't have a child in this league, but I do read these pages all of the time and I think some folks are way to quick to throw out that a team "ran up the score".

*Memorial vs. The Woodlands/Woodlands wins 24-7

Memorial will never be "outmatched", maybe "outcoached" or "outdisciplined", but year in and year out, I would match their athleticism with anyone. -
*PN-G vs. LC-M/PN-G WINS!! 27-20/Comments

Geez... Where are all of the "Excuse Sharks" on this thread? I've seen enough excuses already to feed them for the next month on this one, and could, quite possibly, send this thread to 100 pages. : -
Last night I saw some true HEART... Hats off!

Condition of young man injured last nite??

WOW! Not another serious injury. HF has been decimated with injuries the last couple of years. -
Upset Speacial of the Week....LCM over PN-G?
Gasilla replied to TexAgNDN's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That's funny, I was just thinking the same thing about most of you guys posts. Either emotion, ignorance (not that you are an ignorant person, just about the quality of the smaller schools in the area) or denial. -

Upset Speacial of the Week....LCM over PN-G?
Gasilla replied to TexAgNDN's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Okay,I will play devil's advocate here... What do you PN-G fans think your record would be if you played LC-M's schedule?? I say you would be 2-1 AT BEST. And, with Nederland's schedule I say you would be 1-2 AT BEST. Y'all should not be making fun of LC-M's schedule. WO-S is far superior to anyone you have played. Come on, the "schedule" argument was made way back on like saturday or sunday when this thread started. You are right. WO-S is awesome (cough cough). They beat a Ned. team that lost their 3-year starting QB at the beginning of the game. Then they beat up on the Bears, now thats a statement right there. Then they went on to beat a 2A Kirbyville team by 1 in overtime, oh so impressive. And then WO-S got hammered by Jasper, another 3A team, which was unranked at the time. You are right, WO-S is far superior. Just because you have 2 D-1 commits doesn't mean you have "a team." I know that Ozen generally has D-1 athletes on their teams but that doesn't help them in district now does it? So, I say we forget about the schedules and who beat who, get on the field, and bust the snot out of each other. Just a couple of corrections here, 1) Nederland lost Bellows in the 4th qtr NOT the start of the game. 2) Jasper won the game, but in no way did we get "hammered". They were the better team, no doubt, but your using some typical, favorable exaggeration. Now, I will not try to make a comparison with PNG this year, I do think Jake, being a neutral party who has seen both, is. I CAN compare to the past several seasons and our success against common 4A (usually district) opponents and assess that we are, AT LEAST, on a level playing field with PNG and would bet most years were better. -

WO-S at Jasper/Dawgs win 23-13/Comments

Gotta love the quote, "We have athletes and Jasper has football players". So true. Hopefully, they will get it turned around. I think they will. -
Upset Speacial of the Week....LCM over PN-G?
Gasilla replied to TexAgNDN's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have not seen LCM fans discrediting PNG's pre-season. I am the only one who has done that and I am not an LCM fan. I just know that Texas City is not the TC of old and BH is BH and Crosby lost everything last year and has been getting smoked. Again, I wish PNG luck, but I think some of their fans who don't give LCM a chance based on who they've played are either in denial or don't really understand that LCM has played the tougher pre-season. -

Why the Dawgs will make a deep playoff run in '09

IMO some of the long time posters(maybe even from WOS) could do with reading this. Believe me, I DON'T disagree with you. Just giving them a little advice, I think that every team has a few fans who don't care about that. But at least they are given the opportunity to take it. -

J-Dog, where are all of these "Rabid Dogs" coming from? LOL Where were they last year when the dogs weren't doing so hot? I am glad Jasper is doing well SO FAR, but if you end up 2-8 this WILL NOT be considered a successful year, I don't care if one of those wins were over the state champion. Also, you newbies around here bumping your gums need to learn some public message board "rules of thumb": 1. Since most of you start showing up after a big win (in this case two of them), just make sure you do your best not to insult the team you just beat. Normally, your team will have to play them again next year. Fans, coaches that read these boards and players will remember what you say. They will not remember "who" said it, they will remember "Jasper" said it. 2. It's ok to be excited, but you must use a little self control with making lofty predictions. Many things can happen during the course of a season that can de-rail your success. People don't forget when you start boasting and I guarantee, there is always a sniper running around that will dig up your old posts and remind you of what you said. 3. Be a fan and support your team, but also remember when making lofty predictions that coaches and players DO read these boards and you NEVER want to say anything that may end up on someones bulletin board, or talked about, that will give your opponent cause to be motivated. Jasper has a tough enough schedule, other teams don't need anything else to motivate them. This also includes how good or bad you think a team is. Even if you do think they are terrible, don't say it. Most teams are not bad forever. -
Hey Coop I have an answer for you, and it is affecting WOS as much as Jasper. Enrollment!!! when you have over 900 in school you can field a better team than when you have fewer than 700 it is a simple numbers game. This problem started taking its toll on Jasper a few years ago and it seems to be catching up with WOS now. Kirbyville is in the 300's and Newton has less than Kirbyville so that excuse dont work at all! Ryker, when does it get to where people discussing problems they percieve within their programs NOT be considered excuses? Also, I really don't understand the point of your statement. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but Newton and Kirbyville compete in 2A. WOS and Jasper in 3A. Neither Kirbyville nor Newton have ever beat WOS and until this year, many of the games really haven't even been close. Not sure, but I think that Jasper has also won the majority of it's meeting between the two. I think enrollment does have a little bit to do with that. Not the decisive factor every year, but it does have a bearing. As for the excuses, I agree with you and thats not the point I was making. If youll go back and read some of my post in this thread youll see i was making the same point you are asking me about. I think you read too much into the statment I wrote. Yes they are 2a but can compete with most schools in 3A. Obviously the more kids you have to choose from the better off you are. Im was just making a statment that you dont have to have the numbers to put together a program that is capable of competing with schools with twice and somtimes three times the enrollment. Gotcha and I agree. I think the point thunder was making is that it gets hard to compete at the level WOS does every year with a declining enrollment. Sooner or later, you are going to have a down year. I agree with him as well, but I don't think that will be this year, because the talent is there. I agree with you on that. I think we will get it going.

I have talked to a few folks who's opinion I trust and they tell me Gilmer is very, very good. Right now, they are the odds on favorite to win the State Title... I'm just hoping it's the DI title... ;D
