  1. What difference does it make how many pages this thing goes? If people want to talk about it, it's their right. This IS a discussion board, right?
  2. Man, that's awesome and I agree with you, changing the kids attitude is the biggest step. I hope to see some good things out of OF this year! That offense can be mighty hard to stop when run correctly. Sounds like OF is headed that direction. Good luck!
  3. You really ought to know your facts before you post. 2008 Gilmer Stats Rushing 440 carries for 3,446 yards, 45 TD's Passing 198 of 337 for 3,069 yards, 39 TD's 2007 Gilmer Stats Rushing 481 carries for 4,242 yards, 56 TD's Passing 200 of 317 for 2,858 yards, 39 TD's 2006 Gilmer Stats Passing 179 of 269 for 3,468 yards, 50 TD's Rushing 271 carries for 2,186 yards, 28 TD's 2005 Gilmer Stats Rushing 369 carries for 3,030 yards, 42 TD's Passing 169 of 280 for 2,449 yards, 27 TD's 2004 Gilmer Stats Passing 277 of 409 for 4,152 yards, 49 TD's Rushing 462 carries for 3,149 yards, 42 TD's In the last 5 seasons, Gilmer has rushed the football more than 50% of the time. The Buckeyes rushing yardage total has been more than the passing yardage in 3 of the last 5 seasons. These Buckeyes are not a one trick pony. They have some horses! What gilmer does is let the passing game open up the run. When a team knows you can and will throw the ball, it makes them respect and have to prepare for both which allows you to pop off some good runs on them. In my opinion, it's the best way to play offense. 50-50 is about where you should be. Of course, I love the spread. ;D
  4. I have a feeling that WOS or Silsbee (because there is a good chance they will be "big school") will end up running into Gilmer in the playoffs and they are going to be a tough customer. Pass happy or not.
  5. Yeah, he better be more worried about Vidor than us... they may be his road block to the second season...
  6. I agree with you Gun, offensively I think we will get better. Haven't used our playmakers much in these scrimmages mostly due to injury, but I think as they come back, our offense will get rolling. We also moved the ball pretty good throughout the scrimmage last night, just kept making stupid mistakes. I think that will get ironed out. Our defensive front I think will be good to as well as our DB's. My biggest concern right now is our linebackers. They kind of got exposed last night. They are awefully young and they aren't very big. They are going to have to get more physical, but if anyone will put all the pieces together, Cornel will. I just hope there is enough pieces to make a whole puzzle.
  7. You have to have the hosses to run the Wing-T... Does Nederland? Nederland runs the spread, you would be foolish to look at what Vidor did to us and think that Nederland can do the same...
  8. This is a good post here and it says volumes for the Vidor community and where they are now after last night. Jeff Matthews is a friend of mine and I am proud for him, the Vidor team and the community. Yes, it was "just" a scrimmage, but nothing says you've arrived as a team and a program like putting it on WOS. WOS is one of, if not THE premier program in SE Texas. Vidor fans, coaches and players are excited about this and they should be. This was about the team getting better, but it was also about proving they turned the corner to themselves, their community and the rest of SE Texas and I feel they did that. Vidor has a good team and they should be proud. While it doesn't count on the records of either team, it counts mentally for Vidor. As for the person who smarted off about our 4000 scrimmage win streak, you need to pay attention. We didn't win EITHER of our scrimmages last year and still went undefeated in regular season and had the number 1 defense in 3A.
  9. From what I witnessed tonight at the scrimmage its gonna be tough to stop Vidors Offense. I understand that WOS is a 3-A school but does Dayton have a team this year ? Whats got me puzzled is Dayton could only score 7 points on WOS and Vidor could have scored @ will (without turnovers). WOS had a good defender sitting out for the scrimmage but how much could this one player have helped ? I will admit that I have been hard on the pirate fans since I've found this website but they are for real and until you see them you won't understand. * as for WOS us Nederland fans will find out how good they are when we play. It would just be hard for me to believe that both Dayton and WOS have weak teams especially in the same year and for those that doubt Vidor thats basically what your saying. It's because Dayton runs the spread and Vidor runs the Wing T. Two completely different offenses. One plays to our strength (speed) and the other plays into our weakness (size and power) and you have to play more discipline. Also, WOS is trying to find the right fit at linebacker and to be successful against a team like Vidor, your linebackers have to play nearly flawless. We are not there yet. The offense Vidor runs can be the most fun to watch or the most boring depending on whether or not you have the hosses to run it. Vidor does this year.
  10. Vidor did well. They run that Wing T to near perfection. It's hard to stop when you have the correct personnell to run it. The Mustangs just didn't play very good assignment defense and you have to against that offense. I think Vidor will do well this year. I was proud to see the offense get untracked in the second half. You guys kill me with the "second team" stuff. Subbing in players is done during games and it does not contitute the "2nd team". I was there as well and there were 5 or 6 guys on each side of the ball that never left the field for Vidor so please stop the "2nd team" crap trying to insinuate it could have been worse. Hell, we kept shooting ourselves in the foot in the first half or it could have been closer. I mean, it is what it is. As for someone mentioning that Vidor doesn't run the Wing-T as well as Les Johnsons BC offenses, I'm sorry, but I have to totally disagree. WOS shoved that offense up the collective butts of many a Les Johnson BC team. Very few times have I seen a team run over us like Vidor did tonight. That's a fact.
  11. OK.... I've kept the WOS folks from "sugar coating" facts so don't you try and do it. Yes, I was there and Ploch did not go out "after halftime". He played all but the last 2 possessions of the 4th qtr.
  12. Iam a Pirate fan tried and true but can give you no help on this one. How can you not be impressed with WOS? All they do is win over there and make the playoffs every year. Coach Hooks does a great job and has one of the areas elite programs Hey Pirate, don't worry, bro. There's one in every crowd... ;D
  13. That is me over on 3a Downlow and what I wrote is fact. That was not the WOS JV. I don't know if someone just doesn't understand or they are trying to make an excuse for us giving up a TD to Dayton. Personally, I don't see the big deal. We gave up one TD on the first series then handled them pretty well after that. Dayton is a good team, one TD at the start is not something to be alarmed about.
  14. LOL... dude, you are changing what you said midstream... In the first post, you said, "the way i saw it, was the Dayton DB`S were fantastic". I don't agree, I also don't agree that it was "footsteps" Jayhawk. No offense, but several of the recievers were so open the DB's weren't close enough to hear their footsteps. Anyway, back to Peveto, I think the front 4 has a whole lot to do with the oppositions passing game, but that's not what you said in your first post, you commented on their DB's, not their line. They did put a lot of pressure on our QB, but he still got several passes off which our WR's dropped with no one around them. Dropped passes do not worry me. I know the ability of our receivers, it will not be an issue for long.
  15. Really, that will play more into what they need to work on... run behind those big ole linemen and try to wear you out.
  16. Crap... I would like to see that. Not going to Houston, though.
  17. I didn't see that, there were a few where the Dayton DB's weren't even close. We just straight up dropped the ball. I didn't think the Dayton pass coverage was all that good... no offense... I thought the Dayton front was awesome.
  18. Will this be another game simulated? I heard somewhere that Matthews doesn't like doing that and it's at his place.
  19. haha...no its not that happens every year. honestly I guess I will deduce from this that the WOS Freshman must be really salty.
  20. Admin, you are correct. Crouch was one of the finalists when they chose Moody.
  21. Way to come out of the blocks, coach!
  22. I agree wtih that for the most part, but I do think vidor will be a good test as well. A completely different look than what we got from Dayton.
