  1. i would think wos is in a no lose situation. on paper this will be their toughest test till third round, besides silsbee in district play. if dayton outscores them by 3 touchdowns, then dayton will leave knowing they have a pretty good club. I don't agree with that. WOS beat Dayton 2 years in a row and Dayton went on to win district and one of those years went on the the Semi-final round. I know it's hard for you guys in 4A to believe it, but there isn't much difference between the top 3A programs and the top 4A.
  2. Obviously someone trying to start something. Probably not even from WOS.
  3. I totally agree, Gas, Jeremy is a very special player and will make those around him much better. The Tigers do have some players ready to make a name for themselves too. I look for RB Chris Barnes to have a breakout year and for a couple of Silsbee's recievers to be in the top of the district standings in recieving. On defense the linebacking quartet of Bolton, Keefer, Simmons and Henry will be as good a set of linebackers in the district. Bolton is a monster, really looking for a great year from him. Like I said, this Tiger defense really reminds me of those very good WOS defenses that swarm to the ball with great speed. This is the fastest defense I have seen Silsbee have in a long time. When Silsbee and WOS square off this season, you'll see too very simular teams going at each other. This should be fun. Another factor many people don't take into account on the varsity level when you have players coming up from the JV is that they feel the kids do not have a rapport and experience with each other. However, in places like Silsbee and Orange, these kids come up playing together. I think silsbee will be better than some may think. On the flip side, the same goes for WOS. I think there will be plenty of fireworks this year. WOS will be breaking in a new QB, but he will have a recieving core like no other. Everyone knows about Franks and Haynes, but he also has Mark Roberts and a kid named Johnson who is a Sophomore. They will be incredibly fast and tall (all but the Soph are 6' or taller). They are going to throw it around a little bit.
  4. LOL... shaking hands and kissing babies! ;D
  5. Johnson is a STUD and if one person were going to beat you, what better than the guy who touches the ball on every play. He will be a hard person to contain. Also, players like him make everyone around them better.
  6. Mondays would be good as long as it were before Monday Night Football.
  7. No sir, you ARE mistaken. Nederland won the first three of the last 6 and WOS has won the last 3. One of those came at WOS. Two of them were in Nederland. Now, WOS HAS one the last 2 of their 3 in Nederland. Nederland won in 01 and 02 at Nederland. Stop showing the need for a history lesson and you will stop getting them.
  8. If hard work equals prolonged success on the field then can you really argue that?
  9. These threads always crack me up... Does anyone ever NOT think that their team is bigger, faster, in better shape and set to make a run at the district or states title OR going to "surprise some people"? It's funny, but it's fun. It's always fun to anticipate and hope that this will be the year no matter what your aspirations are. Anyway, I went out and watched WOS for a little while yesterday after I left the gym. The things that stood out the most to me was that we do appear to have more size and the sheer numbers in the program are up compared to normal. That's really all I saw that isn't status quo. I think the kids come in in fairly good shape most years because they know what's coming, so that is no surprise. Other than that, you really don't know anything from a practice in shorts and helmets. Here's to hoping... ;D
  10. What are they running?
  11. So why should Central be getting all the hype? WOS does every year what Central did one year and now they should be getting all the talk? Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with Central getting it. Just concerned why you think WOS shouldn't. I see quite a bit of hype across this board for different teams, too. So why did you bead in on this one? Maybe kicker hit the nail on the head...
  12. Jones Cowboys, Anderson Fighting Irish, Salk Tigers, West Orange Chiefs and Little Cypress Grizzlies. I think Doyle played for Anderson.
  13. Kerry Sr was a running back at Oklahome State.
  14. Paris, CE King, Ennis, and LaMarque are the only teams that have had our(WOS) number. Oh, and Waco Lavega and Wemberly :'( I think you have to have more than one loss against a team for them to "own" you. Definitely agree with LM and King.
  15. I don't make predictions, but you can also factor in the fact that the WOS JV last year beat Ned 34-7. And it was a pretty bad whipping.
  16. PNG went to the state finals in 99 and WOS in 2000 and Nederland went to the semi-finals in 01 (I think). Personally, I feel that, if a district prepares a team to get 4 rounds deep, they aren't "weak". Doesn't mean they are the toughest in the state, but certainly not weak.
  17. Awesome! Paintball next weekend at my place. Be there at 11:00, Casey and kids can come swim and keep the wife company.
  18. Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith, Vince Young, along with every Tech QB draft have either struggled or sitting the bench in the pros. Also, it's killing offensive linemen as well. Say what you want about the option but Nebraska kept an Olineman in the first round of the draft. Sissy ball is watering down all positions on offense sans Wide Receiver.... Well, there are two ways of looking at it. The guys on your list would probably never have even got a shot at that level had it NOT been for the spread. They may not have made it, but at least it got them there.
  19. Look, it's not about hating on them. Usually hated teams are teams that have a traditon of winning. Vidor has nothing to hate on in my eyes right now. It's all about reality. Your team could not make the playoffs last year in a somewhat weakened district with 4 playoff spots. You guys are saying you are proud of your effort last year. That may well be, but that pride will not get you into the playoffs. You have a lot of returning starters from a team that, when you think about it, accomplished nothing. What should lead us to believe that you will make the playoffs this year. I for one, having seen PNG's changes, know that the district is going to be tougher this year. Yes, you may be tougher, bringing back so many, but IMO, with the rise of the district, you will still be the odd man out. Sorry. Again, no hate intended, just reality. I've read your synopsis on why you do not think Vidor will make the playoffs and I gotta say that it seems to me that your picking PNG to come in 2nd and Vidor to be out is not really founded on "reality" as you say at all. PNG has a new coach, a new offense and less returning than Vidor does. Although I know the PNG fans are excited about all of the changes (which I think were needed), a turn around does not typically happen in a year. I think, from a unbiased standpoint, vidor is more likely to make the playoffs than PNG and I think they will. This is not hating on PNG either, just a logical assessment. I hope PNG turns it around and I hope they both make the playoffs this year. I have much respect for that program, but if one is the "odd man out" I think it's PNG this year.
  20. LOL... Like td said, Florida is doing something right, and it sure as heck isn't reading what us wannabe experts have to say about their recruits on public message boards...
  21. I thought you fell off of the face of the earth. I agree it doesn't necessarily translate to the football field but schools like Florida are doing things right or they wouldn't have the success that they have had. No, I'm still around, just doing more reading and less posting lately. Yeah, Florida recruiters know what they are doing. They have proven themselves able to find a diamond in the rough. They have been doing it for years and they apprently see that this kid has what it takes even though he may not have gaudy stats or a gazillion touchdowns.
  22. Yeah, I have to agree, too. He has a ton of potential and upside, but I don't think he has played like a Florida recruit on the football field, yet. What these guys are recruiting is what they see in the combines, which doesn't necessarily translate to the football field. I think it will, though. I think that this will be a break out year for this young man on the field and he will earn all of this attention. He may end up being "the one who got away" for UT.
