If hard work equals prolonged success on the field then can you really argue that? -

These threads always crack me up... Does anyone ever NOT think that their team is bigger, faster, in better shape and set to make a run at the district or states title OR going to "surprise some people"? It's funny, but it's fun. It's always fun to anticipate and hope that this will be the year no matter what your aspirations are. Anyway, I went out and watched WOS for a little while yesterday after I left the gym. The things that stood out the most to me was that we do appear to have more size and the sheer numbers in the program are up compared to normal. That's really all I saw that isn't status quo. I think the kids come in in fairly good shape most years because they know what's coming, so that is no surprise. Other than that, you really don't know anything from a practice in shorts and helmets. Here's to hoping... ;D -

So why should Central be getting all the hype? WOS does every year what Central did one year and now they should be getting all the talk? Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with Central getting it. Just concerned why you think WOS shouldn't. I see quite a bit of hype across this board for different teams, too. So why did you bead in on this one? Maybe kicker hit the nail on the head... -

Jones Cowboys, Anderson Fighting Irish, Salk Tigers, West Orange Chiefs and Little Cypress Grizzlies. I think Doyle played for Anderson. -

I got your number... teams that seem to own the other?
Gasilla replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Paris, CE King, Ennis, and LaMarque are the only teams that have had our(WOS) number. Oh, and Waco Lavega and Wemberly :'( I think you have to have more than one loss against a team for them to "own" you. Definitely agree with LM and King. -
Nederland vs. WOS Week 0 Prediction?
Gasilla replied to smitty's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't make predictions, but you can also factor in the fact that the WOS JV last year beat Ned 34-7. And it was a pretty bad whipping. -

Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith, Vince Young, along with every Tech QB draft have either struggled or sitting the bench in the pros. Also, it's killing offensive linemen as well. Say what you want about the option but Nebraska kept an Olineman in the first round of the draft. Sissy ball is watering down all positions on offense sans Wide Receiver.... Well, there are two ways of looking at it. The guys on your list would probably never have even got a shot at that level had it NOT been for the spread. They may not have made it, but at least it got them there.

Look, it's not about hating on them. Usually hated teams are teams that have a traditon of winning. Vidor has nothing to hate on in my eyes right now. It's all about reality. Your team could not make the playoffs last year in a somewhat weakened district with 4 playoff spots. You guys are saying you are proud of your effort last year. That may well be, but that pride will not get you into the playoffs. You have a lot of returning starters from a team that, when you think about it, accomplished nothing. What should lead us to believe that you will make the playoffs this year. I for one, having seen PNG's changes, know that the district is going to be tougher this year. Yes, you may be tougher, bringing back so many, but IMO, with the rise of the district, you will still be the odd man out. Sorry. Again, no hate intended, just reality. I've read your synopsis on why you do not think Vidor will make the playoffs and I gotta say that it seems to me that your picking PNG to come in 2nd and Vidor to be out is not really founded on "reality" as you say at all. PNG has a new coach, a new offense and less returning than Vidor does. Although I know the PNG fans are excited about all of the changes (which I think were needed), a turn around does not typically happen in a year. I think, from a unbiased standpoint, vidor is more likely to make the playoffs than PNG and I think they will. This is not hating on PNG either, just a logical assessment. I hope PNG turns it around and I hope they both make the playoffs this year. I have much respect for that program, but if one is the "odd man out" I think it's PNG this year.

I thought you fell off of the face of the earth. I agree it doesn't necessarily translate to the football field but schools like Florida are doing things right or they wouldn't have the success that they have had. No, I'm still around, just doing more reading and less posting lately. Yeah, Florida recruiters know what they are doing. They have proven themselves able to find a diamond in the rough. They have been doing it for years and they apprently see that this kid has what it takes even though he may not have gaudy stats or a gazillion touchdowns.
-
Yeah, I have to agree, too. He has a ton of potential and upside, but I don't think he has played like a Florida recruit on the football field, yet. What these guys are recruiting is what they see in the combines, which doesn't necessarily translate to the football field. I think it will, though. I think that this will be a break out year for this young man on the field and he will earn all of this attention. He may end up being "the one who got away" for UT.

You agree what coop, that there won't be anymore buses running in WOS. News Flashback to 2008 them Tigers beat WOS everywhere but the score board. ;D ;D ;D ;D Which is the only place it matters.

Dave Campbell's Preseason Rankings (WO-S #3)
Gasilla replied to WOS87's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Drop passes in the first half and Hipo had a bad second half with his accuracy. The line has done well with pass blocking and they did well that game, too. It's been run blocking where the lack of size has hurt. -
****WO-S WINS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP****

Why is that? -
You know, I think the problem most WOS fans have with you Gilmer folks on this and other boards is that you say these things as if you've cornered the market in them. I got news for you, the WOS coaching staff has been together far longer than any 90's run at another school. The core of this group have been together since the school began in 77. They wrote the book on fundamental football, discipline and execution. You guys have been successful since, what, 2003? You are just babies to state prominence, we've been running with the "big dogs" for 30 years. We've been to the title game 4 times in 30 years and own the best winning percentage in ALL of Texas Highschool football... EVER... IN ANY CLASS. So... no you don't corner the market in discipline, coaching, experience or anything else... your Buckeyes are just going to have to go out and be better than WOS because that's the only way they can win. It will not be due to an intangible. Oh yeah, we have played Ennis so thank you for your prediction... we played them when we were still in 4A in the 2000 state finals... they won, but the score was 38-24. So much for us not being able to stay on the field with them.

The Area Round game was last week genius....plus you misspelled "crowned" Uh oh... Grammar 5-0 is in the hizzle!

Truth is....................... Youve already lost a game this year, your defense cant stop your JV at practice, and you were almost beat last weekend by a sub-par team!! I'm glad you decided to talk about sub-par teams. Sub-par - winning percentage that is below .500, right??? WO-S would know all about beating teams that are par or sub-par. Let me refresh your memory: 1. West Orange 33 Nederland 13 (Nederland finished season 4-4 in 4A) 2. W.O. 48 Little Cypress Mauriceville 7 (LCM finished season 0-8 in 4A) 3. W.O. 33 Brookshire Royal 7 (BR finished season 3-6) 4. W.O. 14 Silsbee 7 (Silsbee finished second in district at 4-4. The other 4 teams (Hamshire Fannet, Bridge City, Hardin-Jefferson, and Orangefield) (60-0, 66-7, 40-0, 67-0) all finished the season with records worse than 4-4. Impressive road to the playoffs. And no, Gilmer's one loss this year didn't come to a sub-par 4-A team. See you Saturday! Wasn't Silsbee's final record 6-4? Also, I thought that HJ ended it's season at 5-4. Someone correct me here.
