22-4A FINALLY! GETS THE BETTER OF 23-4a!
Gasilla replied to PURPLE 4EVER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It's great to see 2 reps from both the local 4A and 3A districts still rolling!! SETX has always held our own, good to see us besting 23-4A and 23-3A. It's not the first time though, back in 99 PNG ousted LM on their way to the state title. Then in 00, WO-S beat both DII reps from that district, Friendswood and LM in back to back weeks. -

Way to go Raiders!!! Man, you guys have taken a bunch of grief over the last couple of seasons. Way to believe in your team!! Good luck and keep on pluggin away!! One more thing... that just ain't right making the plpayoffs for the first time and not just winning your first 2 playoff games, but beating LM in the process! We are like 1- 1 million against those guys... Seriously, GREAT JOB!! -
Could WOS and Kirbyville see each other in the playoffs?
Gasilla replied to claytong's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
IF, and I repeat, IF this occurs. The closest it would be would be Dayton. Hooks will not play on grass unless he loses the flip and the opposing coach wants grass. -

Good job Kats!!! One more game and you get your rematch!!! Question... how is it that our district runner up keeps getting runnerups and our champion keeps getting district champions????? WEIRD!! -
You can go over to wacotrib.com and go to sports and read up on most of their games. I've read up on several of their games and, from what I can tell, they are going to be tough. Offensively AND defensively. They are probably not as good running it as Giddings, Giddings was probably the best in the state, but they are pretty dang good. The thing with La Vega though is that they are not one dimensional. As you can see from the stats, they don't throw it a lot, but they are good at it when they do. It also appears he spreads the ball around well including several passes to their backs out of the backfield which we haven't seen much this year. Defensively, they look tough against the run. They held Crocket, a second round opponent to just 40 yards rushing and 121 total yards. Crocket scored 13 points, but one of those was on a kickoff return. They gave up 388 yards to Cameron (in the first round), the majority of that being in the air as well as they only gave up 40 something yards rushing in that one. The Crocket coach commented that they had a very quick defense and could go far. Looks like they are a lot like us. I am confident from reading that they have not played anyone close to Dayton, Bay City or Giddings. The best team they have played so far is China Springs who is in the 3rd round of the 3A playoffs as well. I am also confident they have not faced and offensive line like ours. We may have to go to the air more in this game, but again, I feel like, if we execute and make the most of our opportunities, we will be OK.

I was trying to remember that too... Can anyone help us? I remember him saying it twice and thinking to myself, "I'll remember that"... yeah right!

WO-S vs. #1 Giddings Predictions?/GAME TIME CHANGE
Gasilla replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Giddings folks do not think the our offensive line can dominate the line of scrimmage. They don't think we can run on them. Boys, consider this a challenge!!! -
I agree Gun, I think many of those voting against Giddings are doing it out of spite. There are, however, several of them who have played Giddings and just do not think they are what they were. If we go in and play Mustang Football, I feel we will move on. We did it in 2005, had we played like Mustangs last year the game would not have been close in my opinion. When we were up 7-0, we missed a wide open receiver for a sure TD that would have put us up 14-0. When you play a team like Giddings and they are forced to press a little, things can snowball on them. If we play like we can and capitolize on those opportunities, I feel like we will win this game.
-
Hurt?? It absolutely destroyed us. That was the single biggest play of the game for either team and ended up being the deciding factor. Fitz got the credit for the actual TD, but it was Bradley who struck the fatal blow.
-
If I'm not mistaken, it was the first year for 2 teams from each district to make the playoffs.
-
This guy makes a good point. Splendora beating WOS in basketball last year was about as unlikely as Coldspring beating us this year in football. BUT IT HAPPENED!! Food for thought. We better be focused.
-
It was a JV/Freshman combined game that WOS won 14-0. I think WOS, Jasper and HF were all tri champs with one loss each in district. (WOS lost to HF, HF to Jasper and Jasper to WOS).

Looking to Week One of Playoffs - WOS vs. Coldsprings
Gasilla replied to MadStang's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
...or Saturday. I've dug up some links to articles on CS. Basically, they have 4 losses, all to playoff bound teams. They lost 44-55 to Diboll who is currently undefeated. They lost 53-30 to Navasota who is playoff bound out of 23-3A which many consider one of the tougher districts in the state. The other losses were the last 2 games against Cleveland and Splendora in close games. It appears they were playing some better ball at the beginning of the season. They ARE capable of playing well... [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] -
Looking to Week One of Playoffs - WOS vs. Coldsprings
Gasilla replied to MadStang's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Anything can happen on any Friday night. I don't know a thing about Cold Springs and I bet none of you do either, other than who they won or lost to. I'd be really careful predicting blow outs. Just my (cautious) opinion... -

Does anyone know anything about them? I hear they have a good running back, past that I know nothing. -

I thought the delay was irritating at first, but once I thought about it, it was those kids last night at their stadium and the last night of football in their senior year. If it cost me an extra 15 minutes to give them a great memory, oh well. I saw many of what were probably seniors all dancing together on the BC sideline just having a good old time. I'm glad they will have the memory. -
Hooks calls that other coaches each week and asks if they want to have 2 games or 1. If they want a Freshman and JV game then they have to agree to letting the players play up so there will be enough to play. Most coaches agree because they want both teams to have the games.
-
I know many of the kids on the Bobcat team. A few of them spent most of their nights this past summer over at my house playing Halo with me. They are good, honest, hard working kids that stay out of trouble. They are much like many of the WOS kids that I know. Once you get to know them, it's hard to NOT pull for them.

Dickinson About to Forfeit All Wins
Gasilla replied to FriendswoodFan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I wonder if this has anything to do with the WOS kid that quit during 2 a days and went to play for Dickinson? -
OK, what is SOOOO very irritating to me about this whole thread is the way you (Jasperdog94) go about discussing how "this is a good time for teaching your kids" and how "coaches should teach kids about sportsmanship" and "Coaches should teach their players right from wrong". Then you turn around and call us arrogant, or maybe not straight up call us arrogant, but tip toe around it like this whole thread is doing by saying that "some think WOS folks are arrogant". To me (again, my opinion), your whole attitude here is arrogant by the simple fact that (and read very carefully) just because YOU see it as disrespectful DOES NOT make it wrong. Why are we going to teach our kids something that Jdog94 thinks is wrong? You are, essentially, equating something that is nothing more than a matter of opinion to something really serious and clear cut as stealing. To me, this is very arrogant.

I think there is a whole lot to this statement backer. On a Saturday or Sunday you can drive around Orange and find those games all over. I think that is part of the reason WOS has such staying power. These kids are playing at knee high and get tough. I look for OF to come in and play hard. I know several of the kids that play for OF and I hope they come in and do well. I know they will give it 110%. I am proud of the fact that they have worked so hard and have gotten better as the season has progressed.
