Port Arthur Memorial (23) @ Barbers Hill (52) - FINAL

BH has no talent, right! -
Game day almost here and despite what I see in the prediction poll, I honestly think the majority have BH winning because that’s the outcome they want. I feel deep down a slight majority believe PAM will come out ahead. Just my take. Both teams are talented, well coached and I can’t see PAM being a worse matchup for BH than LaPorte. All that misdirection and a very good offensive line has worn BH out for two years straight. The injuries with key run stoppers didn’t help but not sure it’d changed the outcome. I see PAM as more of a threat at having big plays, not the consistent, long, clock eating drives BH saw with LaPorte. Not to say PAM won’t have long drives but LaPorte depends on these to win the game. BH and PAM both have the ability to consistently score quickly with a slight edge to PAM. Also, I think BH this season has a total three or so interceptions, with two being against LaPorte. They typically do not turn the ball over but if PAM can put pressure on the QB and not allow big plays downfield, it may be a long night for the hill. On the flip side, if PAM comes in underestimating this BH team, they may quickly get punched in the mouth. Despite some minor weaknesses, this is the best BH team I’ve seen since I’ve been following them. They need to show they can overcome some adversity to make a good playoff run. This should be a good game.

BH will get 250 plus passing. The QB is very mobile once he recognizes he needs to escape the pocket. He’s made big plays downfield doing this. If he decides to stay in pocket, it will be a long night for the Eagles. BH expects PAM to be athletic and I like you dismissing the athleticism of this team, as you obviously not seen them. You’ll get us at our healthiest all season so if it makes one feel better to type it out and insinuate BH is not. 🙄 no more athletic than Shadow Creek that BH has scrimmaged past two seasons. PAM will get big plays but to think BH will not, you have not watched any games or highlights. I wouldn’t be surprised if it became a shootout. Watching PAM, their secondary has not seen a team like BH. I’ll eat crow if I’m wrong. Up until this last game, one thing we’ve been bad about is unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. We have a couple players that can’t seem to maintain composure at times. I’d expose that if I was PAM. They’ll know who to pick on.
-
BH turns the ball over, they’re done for. PAM will make you pay. Hold their big plays to a minimum and control the ball and slow the pass rush. All these people saying there is no speed has not seen them. They lack size at receiver, but not speed. RB had good speed and if QB can recognize when he can run and decide to run, he can hurt you. I’m not sure he’s figured out how much damage he can do if he decides to run sooner. He has some wheels and can slide in traffic if needed. He has not shown he can be a dual threat much but I feel he can. I’ll have to make my prediction later, I just don’t know yet.
-
Trying to stick to this season but BH will have a lot, I mean a lot of Senior starters graduating on both sides of the ball. They’ll return a few playmakers but a lot of unknowns. Most of the defense is gone. They need to find that identity now and make a run. IMO. I happen to know LP has a freshman kid that has some wheels and size coming up. I’ll probably be rooting for him at least. Other than that, I’m not rooting for LP. Lol that goes back to my days playing, I just can’t. Haha
-
You’re right about BH has to win the game, apparently by 10 to be seeded where they’d like to be. They have not proved they can beat LP with their dominant running game that definitively exposed some weaknesses. Even down two of our best run stoppers that may have helped slow some of the bigger plays, not very it would have changed the outcome. Despite all that, BH still had opportunities to win the ball game and could not capitalize. Arguably the rush they put on QB is what did BH in during the LP game. I’d say LP is the most well coached team BH has played. If they had a little more threat a receiver and didn’t have the drops they had in that game, they’d won by more. It’s my true unbiased observation.

I think match ups favor BH but Lee will come out swinging. I can see a few big plays from Lee that could make it close early and if they are consistent make it a game. Otherwise, the linemen coming back and BH passing and run game gets going, it could get out of hand in the 2nd half. BH by at least 21.

All three high schools have enough enrollment to be 5A D1. Without having someone to put a successful program together, even combining all three and having athletic kids all over field, they still have to know how to play the game. Aside from Lee high school in some years, I do not see any of the three teams having any idea how to play football. Even with athletic kids on the field, I see undisciplined, out of position, terrible technique, unprepared, weaker strength wise as well as selfish players. That will not change just by combining high schools. You have to have a commitment to bringing school spirit, excitement and a love for the game. They would start at much lower grade levels and spread into the community. just my opinion and I don’t think I’m that far off. This starts at the school board and superintendent level. No reason for Baytown to not have at least one playoff winning team every season. -
I’m expecting BH plans to rest some players and still win by a lot. Game still has to be played so we will see. Might be another game where starters only play 1st half.
-
After witnessing Crosby exposing BH run defense last week and two starting LBs still out, BH may have to outscore LP this week. They will rack up some yards based on what I know about this offense. The winner of this contest will most likely be the one with the least mistakes costing offensive possessions to go along with some timely 4th down stops. I don’t see this getting too much out of hand by either team.
-
I made a mistake and made my prediction of this being an easier game for BH than previous years. Some of it based on what I know about the BH team, the rest was how hard the Cougar faithful bad mouthed their coach and this team in this forum. Those boys came to play and I believe more than anything, depth hurt them and they got tired and some players hurt. I could definitely see Crosby in the playoffs. I was impressed. Also impressed by the way a banged up BH defense played in 2nd half. Good adjustments to try and stop those big runs by Crosby. Good luck to both team the rest of the season. BH offense sputtered at times but showed lots of poise to carry the team to a win.

How is the PAM QB and passing game? Do they set it up with running game or more balanced? -

That’s kind of the way I saw it. Yes, the defense should get used to reading the same keys in 2nd half and it should help stop the run. Very hard to do with two good RBs. -

No defense to speak of in 1st half. I know BH has two LBs out but I’m very impressed with their running game. Two big backs and very athletic QB. Control the clock with this big guys and mix some throwing in there. Crosby best winless team in state. I believe they will be a playoff team if they play the way they did tonight. BH can be ran on with some big backs and lots of misdirection. BH is ripe for picking against Laporte next week. -
Transformer has been replaced but didn’t affect the stadium.

I think BH scheduled Shadow Creek as their scrimmage last two years to be challenged by an opponent who would be considered superior in most areas. BH held their own but it exposed weaknesses, especially in the secondary. Needless to say, our front 7 held their own for the most part. Offense made a few plays but SC showed BH where they were. I could see them trying to schedule at least one tough opponent for next two seasons. As long as the first two games didn’t demoralize Crosby this season, they should improve from the experience.
-
I’d go after that BH secondary until they prove they can stop it. I can’t see anyone established a running game against BH.
-
I doubt anyone would argue that Crosby has had the toughest schedule. You’d hope they could take that and learn from it. BH will be tough but I doubt they will kick Crosby in the teeth like CE King. Barbers Hill has only had competition from Magnolia West and if not for two late scores by MW, it would have looked much worse. I believe BH will come out little cocky and Crosby needs to throw a punch early against that stingy defense. Secondary might be only place they’re vulnerable right now. I’d test BH deep every series. A homerun early might give them the confidence to keep it close.
-
I was told the Soph utility back had a broken collarbone and will most likely be out rest of season. Is this the case?
-
Crosby won’t lay down for BH. Lots of hate toward “the hill” and should be testy early from both teams. This group from Crosby may not be as talented across the board from last few years, but they can beat you on some matchups. BH does have more speed on offense than past years and with a QB who is very comfortable throwing to any receiver. I know BH has had one of their best defensive players 1st three games (I’ve heard several D1 offers) and not sure when he will return. When he does, it will only add to any weaker opponents misery. Be nice to have a competitive game but I still think BH pulls ahead early and never looks back. Eagles by 35-40!

BH needs a test but not sure it’s gonna happen this week.

Baytown Sterling (0) @ Barbers Hill (49) - FINAL
Justafan15 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
It was great to see Sterling fill the visitor side of the stadium and players/fans have some enthusiasm. I was hoping for a more competitive game. It would be great to see them make a playoff run and start winning for the first time in many years. Last playoff win may have been more than 30 years but I’m not certain. In all fairness, it seems this age group of boys for BH have been really good at every level since 7th grade. They have lots of varsity and playoff experience. They have a chance to do something special this season. BH has a defense to go with some all around pretty good speed at most skilled positions. LBs may be the best in the district and QB play is what they expected this season. They appear to be very deep at every receiver position. They just plug and play. If BH wanted, he’d thrown for 400 plus yards the last two games. All this production has been playing only in 1st half of last two games. Not to get too far ahead, (Crosby could sneak up on them) but in reality LaPorte will give them a good test to see where they, are and PAM will be waiting, hopefully, for them it will be for the district title. After seeing them play, I truly believe they are highly underrated in the state.
