May not be ran out of town but his seat may get hot really quick.

Can't fault anyone for the weak district. Kids show up to play whoever with what they got.
-
Hire a guy that has been around Lumberton for a while. He knows the parents, kids, etc. and he knows that expectations are low and that as long as he competes in a weak district his job is safe. Not a knock against him. Thats good job security.
-
2 teams had better teams lol
-
Sorry, I should have spelt it out better for you.... If they have a couple bad games in district. I thought that would have been self-explanatory cause that district is on the weaker side.
-
Lumberton's district is consistently on the weaker side. Every few years one team will make it a few rounds deep. All teams in that district are chasing one thing.... District Championships. All the teams in that district know they are not state contenders.
-
No clue. *Non district doesn't mean much... District is what counts.

I know for a fact that Mathews record is leaps and bounds better than the previous coaches (Law, Murphy, Johnson) that where at Vidor. Those 3 coaches combined probably does not have the record Mathews had... BUT Law and Murphy both coaches when Vidor was still in 5A playing with the likes of WB, Central, North Shore, Baytown Lee & Sterling, LaPorte, etc... My point is that recent success can change the way a fanbase views a program. Are they expecting the same results from day 1 or are they ok with a slide down a notch or two?
-
Look at the coaches records prior to Mathews... compared to those... he was winning.
-
Things are a little different now that he is in the spotlight... NO one is given time these days. Win and win now!
-
I have a feeling this coach walked into a ticking timebomb. After having success the past couple, few years.... all its going to take is for the raiders to have a couple bad games and the Lumberton faithful will be calling for his head.

Scott Rich named as new Nederland HC/AD

Welcome to 2024 -
Too many parents know more than coaches these days because they coached little league, and they know what's best for their kid or team. Sit back and let the ones who are getting paid to coach do their job, but that will never happen.
-
That is true, but you know all it takes is one ripple from the right parent and others fall in line. After the success Lumberton had the past few years, let them hit a rough patch and then that backing of the coach is not so backing.
-
Thats the problem, neither candidate can stay on topic long enough before having to bash their opponent. Reminds me of running for and voting for student council in the early 90s.
-
I'm voting Trump come November, BUT it's a damn shame the only two candidates we have to choose from is Trump and Harris. WE... The United States of America HAS TO DO BETTER!
-
Do that with kids now and you'll have kids quitting, mom and dad in your office, etc... you CANNOT coach kids now like you would have 20+ yrs ago. Too many UIL stipulations, too many soft a$$ kids, too many moms and dads know more than the coach.
-
I'm with you.... I'm from the days of tough love by coaches. LOVED every second of it. If I did something wrong, I expected to be disciplined by a coach, but in this day and age, kids have freer rein. They are allowed to act undisciplined. Why cause every second of every football program is being documented by phones. So, heaven forbid a coach get onto a player for acting out cause if he does.... Mommy and daddy will be up there bright and early to have a conversation with that coach or AD.
-
You are so very right!! Winning... team is talented. Losing... coach is horrible.
-
"Losing the coach is not a big deal" ... Coaches don't play an important role in a team's success.
-
Definitely NOT how a scrimmage works. 2's, 3's, underclassmen are just about always mixed in so coaching staffs get a better idea of the personnel they have. There is always a battle between a couple/few positions and what better way to find out who should start?!?!.... Yup, you guessed it.... in a scrimmage!
-
Lumberton is playing in a weak district. If lumberton wants to shock some people... get out of the first round this year.
-
Definitely! I can see 4 teams with 11 game seasons. Don't think this district has the ability to get past the first round.

In this juggernaut of a district that shouldn't be hard 🤣
