  1. Watched entire Mustang vs Nederland game and here is my take. Mustangs definitely look more comfortable in the 50. Much more organized on fits. Great athletically as usual. Nice size on D and O lines. QB has nice arm and shifty but makes poor decisions under pressure. Overall team lacks discipline on the field with stupid untimely and preventable penalties. Receivers drop clean balls which could have made a difference in the outcome. Conditioning appeared to be a problem but its early in season. Defense gave up a 99 yard drive at end of game and lost on last play of game. Went into a prevent style defense and it prevented them from winning. I don’t think this loss will be good for the Mustangs. This one got away from them. Although they appear to be better than the last two seasons they are still missing the little things which end up being big. Next two games will tell a lot. That’s my take!
  2. He certainly would have made it a lot more difficult for you to run the slot t. Not saying you wouldn’t have won the last two playoff games. Bellville is well coached and has a great program. I will say that if I were a betting man I would have put my money on CT and the Mustangs!
  3. None of this talk about losing occurred until and after Coach T was retired. Under current conditions every year will be a guess. Consistency and winning are out the door. I can remember when the Jeruh fired Jimmy Johnson he said … and I am paraphrasing… anyone could coach the Dallas Cowboys and get the same results or something to that affect. The bottom line is that you can have all the talent in the world, (and the Mustangs do) but if you don’t have quality coaching and discipline you are going nowhere period. Sad for our kids and community that forty five years of winning championship tradition has been dismantled in a little over two years. Was the best qualified applicant hired to lead the winningest program in the State of Texas???? We all know the answer to that question.
  4. As a former Mustang player it has been tough the last couple of years watching the decay of our football program. Since the “retirement “ of CT the program has lost its swagger. Teams no longer fear us as they have in the past. They smell blood in the water. Our kids have lost their confidence in the program. If the Superintendent and school board wanted to hire a person of color there are so many quality coaches across the state that would have been a much better hire. I pray when HH’s time is up that the school board and community will do an exhaustive search for a head coach with a proven track record. One that exudes confidence and instills discipline back into our once great program. Our kids deserve the best and right now I do not believe they are getting it.
  5. Probably the big reason why coach Jones is so successful is that he didn’t try to fix what was not broken. In addition he fully embraced the longstanding culture and expectations. Tradition is important. When CT was hired as head coach he had already been in the program for 30 years. He was a huge part in building the program at WOS. In Contrast HH changed offense and defense immediately. The kids were confused. Lack of discipline ensued and now the program is just another average program. You Dont have to be an experienced football coach to see the lack of organization on the field of play . WOS has been blessed with an abundance of top level student athletes year in a year out. It is not fair to our kids to not have the best coaches we can get. You can take a look at PNG and what they have done. They went out and hired Jeff Joseph and the results speak for themselves. PNG will be formidable year in and out with a coaching staff like that. PNG does not have the athletes that WOS but they do have the coaching. WOS no longer scares opponents when they see them on their schedule. It is so frustrating as a lifelong Mustang to see what is happening to our kids.
  6. I can only imagine how tough it is for CT. He left the program with eight returning starters on offense and defense from a team that was two games away from state and watched it all disintegrate overnight. We have the same athletes as Gilmer. I do not understand any of this is acceptable. RH and HH are outsiders and don’t belong. Wrecking our tradition. You are right but outsiders never understanding what it TRULY means to wear that silver hat. Sad!
  7. Point taken. Difference is HH jumped right over more qualified and proven coaches on CTs staff. He will always field average to below average teams as head coach. What we have seen is what we will always get….period. He ain’t the guy that’s going to carry on the Mustang tradition built by many years of hard work by the players coaches teacher community…. Everyone! If you’re happy with average to below average then keep the man as head coach but know what you have! Ultimately our kids pay the price. We should expect nothing but excellence for our school and athletic programs.
  8. Congratulations to Gilmer and Bellville! Both teams had phenomenal seasons. Bellville will be back! Both programs are examples of how important it is to have quality coaching. Both programs will continue to be successful year in and year out!
  9. Can we put HH on the carousel?
  10. We are now experiencing what it is like to hire a head coach with no head coaching experience. First thing he does is change offense and defense. Lack of success and lack of discipline have kids leaving the program. We have the same kids as Gilmer. Difference is in coaching. There was a time when kids wanted to wear that Mustang helmet from the time they were babies. They dreamed of that day when they could put on the blue and silver and run out on the field. Mustangs had swagger and it all started with quality coaching and high expectations and discipline. By the way, kids gravitate toward discipline instinctively. They instinctively gravitate toward accountability. These are good things that lead to success. You are getting what you are going to get out of HH. This is it. It’s time to hold RH and HH accountable for their records. Look at what is happening over at PNG. Oh that’s right… they went out and searched the state and opened up their wallet for Jeff Joseph and look at the results. WOS should be running deep into the playoffs every year and be in the running to make it to state. Right now we are a fourth place team at best limping into the playoffs with zero confidence and zero quality coaching. Our community and kids deserve better. RH and HH should be fired. By the way, RH’s record in improving academic scores is abysmal . A real superintendent committed to academics and athletics is needed. In addition a real extensive and exhaustive search for a quality HC AD REGARDLESS OF COLOR is needed immediately. We cannot be okay with average whether it’s academic or athletic. Say what you want, a successful winning WOS football program charges our community and brings us all together. We cannot sit by and let 43 years of Mustang tradition die without speaking up.
  11. Great points from all regarding the money. Agree that we have best overall facilities although concrete seating could be upgraded. Having said that, best athletes and best facilities deserve the very best coach. Since money appears to not be an issue then open up the wallet and get the best coach we can get.
  12. I wonder how much revenue the school has lost as a result of the football program not advancing in the playoffs? In addition, it seems like there is a huge drop in attendance at the games. Make no mistake, from a straight monetary position the program is not bringing in the money that it used to. I would hope money raised through the football program would be utilized to help with the band, other sports and academics. Certainly if that is the case, then other programs are hurting financially. The tradition of the football program was built by hard work, quality coaching, great athletes, great families, consistency, tough discipline and tough love. The football program remains a source of great pride for our little community and a place where everyone should be able to come together. A standard of exceptionalism has been set and nothing less should be acceptable. It’s really tough seeing our program fall to average. Our kids deserve the very best that we can give them. Just my opinion.
  13. Want to win some more state championships? WCCISD open up your wallet and try to talk Todd Dodge into coming out of retirement. If you can’t talk him out of retirement then Hire him as a consultant and let him pick the next head coach for WOS. Watch how fast our program comes back to life. I know it will never happen but it would absolutely work. Talk about bringing excitement and energy back to the program. A bold move like this would reinvigorate the program and get us back to Mustang football. Right now we are dying on the vine with the current coaching staff. In the old days if you didn’t win the district championship you did not go to the playoffs. It is very apparent after last nights butt whipping that we had no business being in the playoffs. What is it going to take in our community to pressure RH and the school board to admit they have made a mistake and correct it. We have athletes that are just as good and probably better than Bellville and look at the results. Straight coaching issue. The time for change is now!
  14. Get better???? How?? 1977-2021 = 1. Losing season 2022-2023 = 2 losing seasons. What is this staff going to do to get better? I don’t see it. Why can’t it get back to where it was before? It absolutely can get back to where it was and it starts with finding a qualified coach with a winning track record. We don’t have to settle for this. You hire a really good coach and you can have this program at the top once again. Nothing less than exceptional is acceptable!
  15. WOS has quit. Body language is terrible. This breaks my heart for our kids. They deserve better. School administration has let them down. The WOS football program has always been a source of pride in our little community. The program has brought together people from all different walks of life. It has been a program that brings people together. Orange Texas has no shortage of great athletes and families. It would be a coaches dream to be able to have an endless supply of great athletes year end and year out. Time for administration to stop the dismantling of our tradition and get it right. Find a QUALIFIED coach with a track record of winning. No more experiments.
  16. Other factors such as coaching!
  17. Please let this coaching staff go and find the best QUALIFIED coaches money can buy. Our kids and community deserve better. This is completely unacceptable! Absolutely destroying Mustang tradition in less than two years. The foundation of WOS football has always been hard nosed defense, innovative offense, and disciplined play. Their conditioning was second to none. Flat embarrassing!
  18. This is so hard to watch! This is not Mustang football. Our kids are disorganised on defense and offense. This is a coaching issue. With the athletes that WOS gets year in and year out there is no excuse for this performance. I hope the school board will take action. We should find the best qualified coach we can find to get this program back on track. We handed the keys to the winningest program in the State of Texas to a coach with no head coaching experience. Our kids deserve better .
  19. Bellvillesports.net looks like it’s carrying the game live. Couldn’t find anything on KOGT.
  20. With CT coaching my money would be on the Mustangs. Slot T would be stopped dead in its tracks. In addition this current WOS team would not be in fourth place limping into the playoffs. Unfortunately this WOS staff will be out coached and out executed. Lack of discipline and untimely penalties will doom the Mustangs. Too many quality kids and families to not have the very best coaching they can get. It’s very tough watching the Mustang football program become just another program. Years of hard work blood sweat and tears to build a juggernaut of a program all being dismantled at an alarming rate. Our kids and community deserve better. We can do better!
  21. According to my connection in Bellville their defense is the best it has been in years. Their offense is still outdated but they are disciplined and will keep doing what they do. WOS now lacks the discipline that made them great year in and year out. In addition there are few if any real time adjustments during games. It is disappointing to see the tradition that was built being torn apart. Limping into the playoffs with a 5-5 record is not the WOS way. If we weren’t living in a time where “ everyone’s a winner” we would be at home watching the playoffs. Fourth place goes to the playoffs??? Come on! I will always pull for my Mustangs but they will have their hands full with this Bellville team.
  22. I am a 1980 WOS grad and played on WOS first district championship team. I have followed my Mustangs for my entire life and never have I seen a worse defense than I did the other night against the Newton Eagles. WOS has always prided itself on strong defense. This is a coaching issue in my opinion. The kids look disorganized and confused. This lackluster play would have never happened under the former coaching staffs. There is no gap integrity discipline and our edges are open. There are no coaching adjustments being made at halftime. It’s the same thing over and over. Unless there is dramatic change WOS will just be another team fighting for a fourth place playoff spot relegated to an early playoff exit. Looking into the stands they were practically empty comparatively speaking from prior years. I am disappointed to see the program move in its current direction. The talent pool is exceptional. It is my prayer that the coaching staff will self scout and make the appropriate adjustments to give our kids the best chance. This is just one opinion from a former WOS Mustang player and lifelong Mustang fan!
