Does Lamar have an open invite to join the WAC?
geezer replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think the real question concerning the WAC is will there still be a WAC in two years and if so what will it look like? Watched the UCF - Georgia game and heard a comment that indicated UCF could be interested in moving to a stronger conference than C-USA. Would the B-12 be interested in them and say Notre Dame. ND has always remained independent in football but are in the Big East for other sports. With TCU going to the Big East that puts it at 17 teams in basketball. These two schools would have tremendous potential for tv revenue for the Big 12 and give it a face in the Florida recruiting market. -

Going to a bowl game gives your team an extra two to three weeks of practice. Also at this point the WAC and other FBS conferences get at least some regional TV coverage and revenue, which helps with recruiting and budget. -

If you wind up with four super conferences, then a playoff for the National Title becomes more realistic. Each conference gets one rep and you have two semifinal and one title game. -

The change in scheduling has already started. Boise State and Va. Tech this year, Texas and Ohio State a few years back, Oklahoma and Fla State this year. I am not saying that they won't schedule a smaller school only that they won't travel to a smaller school unless as someone else stated they want to have some face time in an area for recruiting. -

A few years ago. I know that some of these schools have traveled to smaller FBS sites usually as a part of a multiyear deal where the small school comes to the big school, but I believe even that will become a rare event. I think you are more likely to see four major conferences with up to 16 members and everyone else pushed out. These schools will be locked into eight to nine conference games and will be pushed by the ranking systems to play teams from the other major conferences because of ranking purposes. -

I agree with the concept of 2nd tier schools coming to LU but the question for those who really want to move to BCS is who do you want to see coming to BMT and why? Outside of the Southland Conference there are some very good FCS schools that might be an equal draw. -

I have stayed out of the FCS vs BCS debate because I am not sure what the advantages for Lamar are in each. If some of you are thinking that UT or A&M would ever come to play in BMT if LU was BCS, I doubt it would happen unless LU can support a program with a 70K seat stadium. It is not a good business descision for either school and unforunately that is what college sports, particullarly football is. It is a business and even winnng programs fire coaches today because they are not bringing in enough revenue. -
Lamar signs offensive lineman from Mizzou

The only problem I see with 2nd chances are the NCAA rules on graduation rates affecting scholarships. Do not want to imply that it would have made a difference in the basketball program the last couple of years but Lamar did loose two basketball scholarships for one year and one for a second if I rember correctly for players not graduating. I think the dephth required for football could hurt more to loose some scholarships. -
Merry Christmas Cardinal fans everywhere.

Whitten did not get the HC job at Angelo State

Generally football is won by the team with the best line, both offense and defense. It's been almost 40 years since I played but it was true then and still true. With the current rules I believe it is easier to pass block than run block, hence all of the passing. The bad side of passing is an incomplete pass takes five to seven seconds off the clock, a run for no gain takes about forty seconds off. End of the game you can keep the ball for several minutes with one or two first downs running. -
Some highlights of LU's future QB
geezer replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It is time to quit hyping this player. All will agree he was very good in high school. The problem with being very good in high school particularly in a 3A and smaller school is that you rarely play against equal competition heads up. How many hundred thousand play high school ball and how many thousand play college at any level? Let the efforts on the field speak. I am glad Lamar got another good athlete. -
If Hall really wants to play for LU maybe he should attend Lamar State College Port Arthur this spring and try to get status to transfer in.

Doubt we will see anything happen during the season. I don't think there are any $$$ supporters calling for his head and Tidwell has enough on his plate. -
Consistancy; Tulane wins.

Time to put this thread to bed. Assuming Johnson will be enrolled at LU this spring so lets see the efforts on the field. -

I would be willing to give Abetemarco a second chance, but I think Lamar needs to look to lower division coaches that have proved to be succesful. If you look at D-1 coaches what does Lamar have to offer, a one and done conference and probably no better salary. Want to say I heard during the ULL half time that they are paying Marlin significantly more than we are paying any of our coaches in any sport. -

Roc was never a head coach at any level before being handed the Lamar job and it shows. I will give him some credit as a recruiter but it is much easier to get kids to come play for Calipari at Memphis or Kentucky than to get them to come to a medicore program in a one and done conference. Custer starts the game plays about 3.5 minutes then sits the bench for the rest of the half, same story second half. They out rebound us big time. Brazier looked good but instead of rotating him and Custer and keeping them fresh he brings in Brown. No half court offense. Understand I do not think Custer is anything special but if you normalize the stats to playing a full 40 minutes he and Brazier should get about equal time. -

It's a long time to game day, he can probably shave his head and grow dread locks back by then so if he has hair let him enjoy it. Personally if he is unlucky like me he will lose most of it in a few years anyway. -

Quote from Roc's postgame interview we have to play harder in practice. He won't learn you have to play the guys who can win the games not the ones who impress you in practice. Don't believe Mike James played at all.
I dont for sure what you are talking about, however u r dead wrong. If a kid won't perform in practice shy would you reward him with playing time?
Roc appears to change the starting lineup almost every game and when you here him talk it comes down to who he thinks practiced tha hardest this week. If you have fifteen guys fighting for playing time based on this weeks practice effort you cannot develop a cohesive team atmosphere.

WAG , But a reasonable possibility for Dodge is to Texas as qb coach, expect UT to promote Applewhite to OC to keep him from going to Florida with Muschamp. -

That doesn't sound like there's a competition for starting. -
I really want to be wrong on this one, but I take ULL by 10. The losses to Texas College and McNeese would indicate that they are weak, but overall they have played a more difficult schedule and LU still needs to prove they can play defense on the road for a full game.
