Lamar vs. Huston-Tillotson Predictions?
geezer replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No, if I were going to model LU after another program it would be Gonzaga as far as how they have improved their schedule compared to the remainder of their confernce. The part that I would not like is Gonzaga plays several of their "home games" in Seattle which might be like Lamar playing home games in San Antonio to get the big name schools to come play them. The reference to Nicholls has to do with their improvement in competing in the SLC, they used to be a bottom feeder now they are competive. -
Lamar vs. Huston-Tillotson Predictions?

To get better teams to come to Beaumont we might have to do more of what they did to get Tech to come which was a two for one deal. Yes conference only home games would hurt but I don't think it has to get that bad. When it comes to at large berths for the NCAA the first thing that comes up is quality wins. Don't care if home, away or neutral site. -
No disrepect to either UC Riverside or Portland St, but LU has played three games against teams from conferences considered above the Southland and have averaged 66 ppg while giving up 84 ppg. Who cares if they can score 100 against NAIA teams?

Lamar vs. Huston-Tillotson Predictions?

Personally I would rather see Lamar loose at home to Div I teams from equal or stronger conferences than to ever see another game against a lower division school. I think Nichols has actually improved themselves by almost playing no home games out of conference and going to upper tier conference schools. That won't work in Beaumont because if Lamar was much under .500 it would take almost the entire conference schedule to get a decent crowd to the games. -
Lamar vs. Rice Predictions? RICE WINS!

Run and gun offense doesn't require much coaching. Good half court offense and defense require coaching. Guess where Lamar struggles? -
Lamar vs. Rice Predictions? RICE WINS!

Should not be a surprise to anyone. Lamar's number one problem, lack of quality coaching. -
Lamar vs. Rice Predictions? RICE WINS!

I think the outcome hinges on three factors. 1. Can Lamar get ahead early? 2. How good is Rice defense, it stayed within three of Texas? 3. Quality of coaching. -
**LU vs. Texas Updates** UT Wins!!
geezer replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Roc picked up good talent and reasonable size for this group to make a big improvement. If the shooting last night was a fluke then we have something to look forward to this year and next at least. If the shooting is related to good defense by Texas and others figure out how to slow LU down they it could still be a long year. At this point Roc is still only a good recruiter and low experience coach. -
IMO LU does not have an inside game strong enough to force UT to shoot perimitter shots which is what Rice did to stay close. Hope we stay within 20, but not counting on it.

I would have preferred to see the Big 12 go after TCU as a replacement for Nebraska or Colorado

LU vs. St. Gregory Updates..LU Wins Big!!

Two cupcake teams at home two big wins. An improvement over the past years when we struggled against these schools. Mike James looked good, I believe he can get a shot whenever he wants it, but still plays unselfish. Look forward to the\is coming weeks games. -
LU vs. Texas Pan Am Updates...LU Wins!!

Best thing about this game is it is a win on the road. Upcoming cupcake #2 at home then go to Texas and Rice. -

Uh, don't look now, but.......

I think actually the biggest draw of a bowl game is the extra practice time the coaches get with the players and tv exposure. Financially most of the smaller bowl games are not that big of a payday to a school when you start adding up all of the extra costs that go with it. -
Minor was hot and cold last year. He had one or two games that he got hot and scored quickly but most of the time he had trouble getting his shot off (IMO). The added scoring threats may help him.

I watched similar type of games where a team that is not ready to compete plays a major powerhouse and the injuries do happen. In the mid 70's Wichita State (when they still had a program) opened their season against Ok State, Colorado and Kansas State for the paydays. By game four they could not compete against their conference members.
-
They might need an OC, might steal ours----------Hope
-
I listened to part of the game before heading to LU and as the first half ended M St was begining to make the push and you could hear their fans getting into the game.
-
Unless there are several injuries, if this team doesn't get better during the year it is time for a change
-
Next weekend we should get a better read on what kind of year we might expect, but it sure is nice to beat a cupcake team like you are supposed to.
-
He is the coach, but that sounds pretty lame to me. If most of the new players were true freshman maybe.
-
I am sure your right, but my opinion is that Roc plays who he thinks worked hardest in practice as opposed to who has the talent and can deliver on game day.
-
Well, so much for my cautious optimism. Bring in some talent that scores easily on last years players and basically start first game with last years players.

Final men's hoop scrimmage notes
geezer replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am cautiously optomistic. The black team beat the white by 41 points: it looks like the black team was mostly newcomers and the white team was mostly last years players. -
Recruitting needs, just my opinion. O and D Line depth and a heavy weight running back. Too many linemen out with injuries and the games we should have competed better in the other teams main running back was probably 5" taller and 35 pounds heavier than our running backs..
