Although I agree Prewitt stepped up and played well, I believe if Bevil is healthy, Bevil will get the start. I hope however that Prewitt showed enough that the coaching staff will not leave Bevil in if he is not performing. I only have the radio play by play to go on, but I think the biggest difference Saturday may have bee a healthy JJ Hayes versus Hayes not playing in two games because of injury and probably not up to full speed the week before last. Personally I hope Prewitt gets a chance and proves it was his play that improved throughout the game and Lamar can build on the results post first quarter offensively.

Unfortanately I don't think we have been intentionally pooch kicking. Heard part of the coaches radio show and he did not sound like there were any pooches called. Just poor execution.

Canisius is the type of school Lamar should be working to schedule over La. College and others. These mid to bottom half D-1 conferences while not well known would serve LU much better with home and home contracts than the D2 and lower games at home. They are out of the Metro Atlantic conference and have made several trips to the NCAA in the past the last few years Sienna has been at or near the top of that conference. I would prefer teams better known to the area but if you mix games with teams out of several simalar conferences it would be good. -

No program can maintain there productivity with the number of first line players injured that LU has out. -
Lamar vs. South Alabama Predictions................

Does not matter what level of sports you follow, majority of people only support a winner. -
I was at both of those games and the extra crowd wasn't students. I want a better home OOC schedule too, but other than UT or A&M what type of teams does the area want?
-
How about doing something to get students to the November, December games. Maybe have some sort of give away to the student organizations based on cummaltive support throughout the year.

Comparitively #29 for USA was a stud. Lamar cornerbacks give to big of a cushion especially on short yardage situations.

No excuses, Lamar offense played terrible, but how many players are out with injuries? I saw at least ten last night. Defense has performed resonably at least in the red zone. -

I am going to show my age but I remember when West Tx A&M was West Texas State and part of the Missouri Valley Conference playing Div 1 sports. -
For those wanting to talk conference realignment, The Big 12 is currently two short. How about Houston and TCU to the B12 or can they steal tier 1 schools from some other BCS Conference?

I see three 6 1 guards, can they score against 6 4 defenders? -
SHSU Does Right Thing, Hires from Within
geezer replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Let's see. Lamar hired Billy who hired Roc. Roc known as good recruiter and was at Lamar for three years. Good move, right thing, you tell me in three to four years. I personally hope it works for SHSU. -
Key words (but shorter) Hard to shoot a high percentage against a bigger defender.
-
Don't care where he comes from but LU needs a 6' 7" to 6' 9" beast that can shoot the 15 footer and drive to the basket. I am tired of watching 6' guards drive to the basket and get stuffed or throw up a prayer hoping to get fouled.
-
When will Roc try a different approach. We have spent three years watching three small guards and two bigs playing against teams with guards and wings bigger than ours. Its more difficult to shoot over somebody taller than you. Its difficult to feed the post when you can't throw it over your defender. Custer may not be a strong post but we ought to know by now that he can't handle a pass below is waist. You have to make passes that your players can handle. None of the guards shoot well enough to make a defense respect them.

SLC, Regional Strength of Schedule - Baseball

I do not know what type of visitor facilities other schools have, but I think before Lamar can convince upper tier conference schools to travel to BMT on a regular basis an on site locker room for the visitors would be needed. -
Lamar men @ Sam Houston/ Lamar loses 90-63!

You might be able to get a better coach with an incentive program. Current average attendance about 3500, so offer the coach a bonus based on every ticket sold above 3500. If the program improved to the point that average attendance was 6000 then give the coach an extra 25K. -
IMO the turnovers late in the game are a result of the guards deciding to play individual ball rather than running the offense. Both Miles and Harris hzve tendencies to drive into traps and loose the ball. When Lamar gets a lead one of two things happen, Roc spreads the floor and relys on Miles or Harris to drive and shoot a prayer, the intensity on defense falls or both.

Lamar vs. UT-Arlington.........LU Wins
geezer replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No, I am saying the facts show that LU averages around 3000 attendance per game in a building designed for about 9000. Visiting teams like Sam Houston that only average about 1000 at home aren't going to draw the attention needed to fill the place. It takes a conbination of winning and high quality opponents to get high average attendance even when a lower quality opponent comes to town. -
Lamar vs. UT-Arlington.........LU Wins

Agree LU should have stayed in the Sunbelt or looked to move up to an even stronger conference. Should never have dropped football. IMO while not what it should have been the football program was improving when it was killed. Stronger conference better chance to get quality recruits and better chance to schedule the kind of opponents that is necessary to fill the Montange. I would like to see more teams coming in from Conference USA, Missouri Valley, Sunbelt, MEAC or other D-1 conference as opposed to Louisiana College. Personally I would rather watch Lamar loose to the likes of say Tulsa, Houston, Southern Illinois, Wichita State or Creighton than win against a D-II or D-III school. -

I agree with the suspect coaching ability. I think the biggest short fall may be that the game is too fast for Roc's minimal head coaching experience. The good D-1 programs have a consistent go to playmaker. Lamar has none. With a five point lead in the final minute and coming off of a made free throw I think most of us Monday morning coaches would have put Custer or one of the other big guys in to clog up the middle on defense. Maybe Minor would not have fouled out trying to stop a drive to the basket if there was someone back there to challenge the shot. According to Roc this is the biggest team in Lamar history and we play a smaller line up this year than we did last year. Our short guards had a very difficult time getting the ball up court against the UTA because none of them were tall enough to pass the ball over the top. -
I believe Roc is a good recruiter but getting a great recruit to come to a lower tier D1 program is very difficult. I think that Roc is still a very inexperienced head coach and it shows. The question for LU fans is are we willing to wait to see how he grows as a coach? Did not have a chance to listen to last nights game but I think it should be a rare occassion that a coach gets a "T".
