  1. Yeah, fading at the end is a real possibility as four of the last five games are against the west including three that we always have trouble with, two of which definately have better coaches.
  2. LU wins 99 - 75  good win and on the road.
  3. Ladies win 77 to 67.  Great Job
  4. 6 minutes left LU up by twenty
  5. About a minute left LU up by 8
  6. Midway 2nd half LU 59 UCA 49
  7. Denver left the Sunbelt so there is an opening there.  Also, and I am no Sunbelt fan they went 2 & 1 in this years bowl games.
  8. Don't remember and maybe before tommorows mens game became the weeks tv game it was in the evening, but is seems dumb for the men and women to both be playing 2 PM games.  Now I have to choose between staying home and watching the men on tv for free or going to LU and paying to watch the ladies.
  9. Based on how it all worked out it would have been better if he had never come to LU.  I don't argue that with the way Davis handled everything from the time he showed up on campus and the battles between him and Roc he should have been run off and not allowed to walk out on his own after a full year.  What I was getting at is if Davis's actions were somehow made worse by the way that Roc choose to handle him (because Roc had to be in charge Roc's way), maybe a different coach with a different ego could have gotten better from Davis.  Also how many other good players either left quickly or didn't perform up to expectations.  Remember the Whittle kid from Baton Rouge who Roc ran off between his junior and senior season because the player wanted to be home for some period of time during the summer.  Not saying that this kid was that great either, just another example.
  10. The WAC has three members in 2012 that would draw well in Beaumont and one was a past rival.  San Marcos, UTSA and La Tech.  I would not be against a move to the Sunbelt but why should they let Lamar come back?  And who are the big draws there, Ark State, ULL and ULM? the only one of those three that would be a rivalry is ULL.
  11. Roc needs to quit thinking he is a basketball genius and let the players use and develop their talents.  I know in many ways James Davis was a clown but had Roc not been so full of himself and figured out how to best use Davis it would have been two interesting years.  Instead Davis was in his doghouse, we barely made the SLC tourney and did not comeback.
  12. In my view Roc had a good x & o assistant coach and let him get away.  The one that came in with Lamar Sanders, Todd and Nabors and then left to go back to JUCO head coaching.  I don't think Roc's ego can have someone on the bench that we the fans know is a better game coach.
  13. If this is the remaining WAC football playing schools, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio, San Jose State, Idaho, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech, Utah State then these seven conference games plus four non-conference games which could include series with McNeese, ULL and SFA would make a reasonably good fan draw potential I would believe.  And definately better than the Southland.  Outside of McNeese rivalary game how well does the remaining SLC fans travel.  If the goal is to fill the stadium with local fans I'll definately would rather play in the WAC.
  14. In another thread Coachcola posted that the NCAA would determine in a few weeks if the WAC would keep its AQ to the BB tourney.  Based on what would they loose it.  Looking at the conference standings they currently have nine teams this year and even if they are loosing three they will be picking up two with TS-San Marc and UTSA.  There are already AQ conferences with eight teams.
  15. If you listened to the post game interview, Roc said his maturity level has improved.  It is only perception but Roc puts more importance on practice performance than on game performance as to who will start.  He also indicated that if things are going well he is not inclined to take a player out of the game.  So if Mike doesn't make Roc happy during practice and the starters don't perform poorly then it sounds like there is not a plan to rotate players to maintain intensity and give the starter proper rest.  So I don't expect to see 30 minutes of play time for him every game.
  16. No disrespect to the Johnsons and I look forward to the best on the field performer leading Lamar next fall, but on average one of the biggest problems high school players from smaller schools going into D1 sports is they have rarely competed head to head with equally talented players.  These young men typically have to raise their work ethic if they want to get playing time and sometimes it takes a while to learn this and adjust.
  17. I am sure the Dodge is a great young man but at this point Lamar needs linemen on both sides of the ball.  Don't really think another quarterback or former QB will help even though I gernerally agree with the concept of going after the best athletes and at most schools typically a QB is one of the best athletes on a high school squad.
  18. Congratulations to Mike James on a great game.  He scored the points and deserves the recognition, but personally my opinion is I would have liked to see him get the points in the flow of the game which is how he got about the first 35 or so.  The last ten points were here Mike shoot again for the records.  I really do like how he plays and can't understand why he did not play down the stretch is some of the last set of losses.
  19. Layups versus jump shots.  When Lamar plays no name college and can run, get to the basket and shoot layups they score, when they are forced to play a half court game against a decent team the percentage is in the low 30's.  Check the stats for points per game against D1 schools only.
  20. Other than rivalry games, only winning draws fans.  I have been to too many Lamar vs. McNeese basketball games and neither team packs the house.  I've been to the Astro's when they were winning and you had to plan early to get good seats, and I have been when they are loosing and you can walk up and get some of the best seats in the house.
  21. I agree we should have a locker room for the visiting team.  I think this would help bring in some higher quality opponents.
  22. I think it's been said once on this thread already, but just in case.  Welcome to the Lamar football program JJ.  Now let all the bystanders be quiet and go out and earn the job.  Prove yourself between now and the first game in September to the coaches and your teammates then prove to the fans including me.  For all of the Johnson lovers, I hope he proves you right.  For all of the Prewitt fans I hope he proves you right.  For all the Lamar fans I hope the best QB starts next year and the team continues to improve and has a winning record.
  23. Whie I would like to see the Cards have a great conference run, if they do it will be a commentary on how weak the Southland really is.
  24. Coach I agree that Lamar is the next best choice for the WAC especially if another western team drops out.  If I remember all of the moves coming the WAC will be down to a maximum of eight football schools in 2012 with three of them in Texas and La.  SHSU and Lamar are both close to the Houston market and historically I would say SE Texas has more high profile players than the area surrounding Huntsville.  Don't mean to put SFA down but other than the college what draw is there for the WAC?
  25. Agree there will not be more than six BCS AQ confernces, but the B-12 needs to do something soon or I think it could easily wind up at four.  The problem for the B-12 is where can they pick up teams that will bring in new tv viewers.  While I would have liked to see Houston and TCU added to the B-12, I agree with a post on another thread that there is no tv viewers gained with those markets, and if you look at the overall picture C-USA and Mountain West are the next two conferences where they can offer something better than they already have.
