  1. People who applied and had interviews background (NO NAMES, Don't know what happened): 1 - Current AD/HFC who has had success at several small schools(4a and lower) with good experience 1 Young Coach with family backgrounds with state championships 1 with DC experience at 4A and 5A who lived in the Warren area for a while.
  2. Heard they had some good candidates(more than usual) that interviewed and Coach Riedinger was not mentioned. Has Kenneth Riedinger had any OC/DC experience? I tried to look him up and only found head softball at Evadale. He maybe the right guy for the job. IDK.... but questionable. Good luck to Coach Riedinger and the Warren Warriors.
  3. Warren has had a revolving door for a reason. I'm sure they have made their decision already and I'm guessing it will be questionable at best. Warren keeps doing the same thing. Either hiring an older experienced guy or a young coach with no head coaching experience. My question would be why would a experienced AD/HC take a job that has had a revolving door with little success? My guess is there is a reason and he would not be there long. Also why would you take a young coach that has been at great places.. He will just use it like a spring board and be gone in a couple of years. What really needs to happen is take a coach that wants to be there and is looking to stay to build stability in the community. Someone looking to evolve all sports at the Pop Warner, little dribblers and little leagues to invest in the feature at Warren. Someone looking to help educate parents and inspire involvement in youth activities. Someone looking to invest in the Jimmy and Joes. That person would be probably someone that has lived near/in the community. knows the dynamics and knows what needs to happen. Needs to be someone looking to stay no matter what. I would look for a OC/DC experience, probably in 40's and has been at some successful places.
  4. This is the Regional Quarter-final correct? not the Regional Simi-Final
  5. All sports lose money... period.. Yes football brings more revenue but still loses money with all its costs... Football does not "fund" other sports.. It is funded by budget.. which is paid by state and local taxes. I have seen many games this year where less than 200 parents show up to the games. Do you think these schools got rid all other sports cause their football team did not gain enough revenue at football games??... come on.. I would agree football is bigger in Texas.. no doubt... All I'm saying is other sports should not suffer cause of football Offseason... I know coaches think that 10 extra practices in April/May will determine if they are successful in November.. I just don't think its worth destroying another sport to do it.. especially with all the summer to practice...
  6. Really.. I have talked to many high school coaches, players and college coaches about this subject. (by the way, if you have not guessed it... I'M A HIGH SCHOOL COACH - Football and Baseball). I have had several Big D1 players that went to Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, UH, and LSU tell me their pitch counts... What they were allowed to throw. How long they had to sit till next outing. All of these were in writing by their college pitching coach. Even seen a kid this year NOT Allowed to pitch in the First round of playoffs cause his pitching coach from LSU told him not to cause of how many he had thrown the week before. They keep tabs on kids all the time. Kids stay in contact with their college coaches all year. I have Coached in Local and State ALL-Star football and baseball games. I have been on selection committees. I can tell you for a fact, a invite is sent out to all state players. Most Big College players do not accept the invite.
  7. ALL SPORTS LOSE MONEY!!! From your point of view other kids dreams don't matter... OK... Your opinion.
  8. Happens all the time.. College coaches limiting their pitch counts in high school. My suggestion is to talk to some high school coaches and see what they are told by their players.. As for football Sr. all star football games all you have to do is look at local and state all star games.... you really think the best players in the state of TEXAS are going to small colleges like SFA, McNeese, Lamar and etc... You will rarely see any SEC, Pac 10, Big 12 kids there.. why their school does not want them playing.
  9. College Coaches in most sports protect their athletes (signed recruits) even in high school. College Coaches have gotten so protective about their baseball recruits that that signed in Nov. that they put them on mandatory pitch counts. If their high school coach breaks their pitch count they are telling the kids to quit the high school baseball team. Also happens in Football. Once they sign a letter of commitment, especially at D1 schools, they tell those kids to NOT PLAY in any all-star games in summer.
  10. I don't think it is overly hyped.. I am seeing less and less multi-sport kids when it can all be prevented.. A coach teaches l loyalty, work ethic, comradery, integrity, perseverance, etc.. to get kids to buy into their program. They talk about brotherhood and doing what is best for their community.... But some mean all of this just for football... Kids see into this double standard and will quit.. either while on the field or off... drives me crazy!! and again... I work with these kids.. they tell me what they think.. so you can agree or disagree.. its their point of view!!
  11. Well I have coached around SETX for the last 20 years.. I have not seen many playing in "their school fall ball team".. seen some playing select.. not high school fall ball... IN FACT some schools are not playing in the school fall ball league cause they can not find enough players.. cause most of them play football..
  12. I would not say NO ONE REALLY CARES WHAT HAPPENS WITH BASEBALL.. All you have to do is go to Ford Park every weekend and look at how much money parents pour into baseball.. lol I get what you are saying.. but look at it from this point of view... WINS look good on resume correct? Would a AD do better if he has all his multi-sport kids stay in his program? Again they are usually the more athletic kid. Is his actions driving away the more athletic kids to "concentrate on one sport"? Sometimes more is not better.. Kids get burned out really quick if they believe their AD/Coach does not care about their personal athletic dreams and desires. Like I said.. a Good AD knows how to navigate this issue.
  13. there won't be a scheduling problem... cause AD's don't allow them to play.. its a nice double standard they like to use.
  14. Yep!! They have school teams. You usually don't hear much about it cause baseball coaches will not let their players who play football join.
  15. Bottom line..... No kid should be Mandated to play any off season sport if they are playing another sport... Its not fair to ALL the kids that are playing their in season sport. (Again we are not talking about lifting and agility) With the new UIL rules with sport specific summer workouts.. Each sport gets 1 hour a day of sport specific all summer long.. That is 2 strait month of practice.. If a AD/Head football coach can not get his team ready... that's on him
  16. Correct.. Riggs never played baseball.. In fact, if memory serves my right, didn't that PNG State winning team have their top 2 pitchers quit football their SR. year??
  17. Sweet.. then you believe baseball players who play football should be mandated to play fall baseball in football season?..
  18. And there it is...The exact reason of the decline of multi-sport kids. This statement is the reason why kids are "concentrating" on one sport.. When a multi-sport kid believes his AD thinks this way he believes his AD does not care about his dreams, his wants, his desires, his hard work he put into that other sport... and to make matters worse.. the kids who don't play football are telling the multi-sport kid.. "He does not care about us.. all he cares about is football." The multi-sport kid believe its not fair to them and the other kids on that team. Good AD's win by keeping the multi-sport kid in their program... They are usually the best athletes Good AD's understand the player, understand his dream, show up to their games in support, don't demean the other sport and don't blame their failures on the other sport.
  19. I was not talking about lifting and speed/agility drills... Every good coach in ANY sport should be doing this in season... We are talking about mandated SPORT participation in OFF SEASON...
  20. I could talk forever about this.. I have quite a bit of first hand knowledge about the way kids feel about this subject. I don't agree with the kids when they want to quit one sport to "focusing on one sport" but understand reasoning why they quit especially in JR. and SR. year... Keep these two things in mind. It you agree with these two statements then you can understand: Multi-sport kids should be pushed to play what they want to play... Kids should be never be mandated to play any sport.. All repercussions fall back on the AD... It's the AD's program. If they mandated it, the AD has to take responsibility.. even in accidents... Good AD's know how to navigate multi-sport kids. They inspire the want to play. Bad AD's do not and cause tension inside their entire athletic programs.. this is when you see kids that contribute in one sport quit usually after 10th grade year.. Really bad AD's have caused so much damage that the kid quits being a multi-sport athlete (quits football) after his 8th grade year. He never even gets to coach them in high school. Again I could get very specific but not gonna.
  21. sorry on score.. Maxpreps has it 64-3.. Either way PA wins big.. Agreed Duncanville is on different level and beat SOC by 2 scores. SOC also lost that year to Lancaster (5A-1) by 2 scores who lost in 2nd round. I know these games are early, but its also early for the teams that won those games. What else can you use as comparison when asking my question? I think my question is interesting but very few want to address it I guess
  22. Yall are proving my point.... What was that score of the 22-23 PNG (5A-DII) vs PAM (5A-DI)?? PNG lost 64-3!!!.. but goes on to the 5A-DII state championship while PA Memorial out 3rd round. What was that 23-24 PNG vs PAM? 24-7 and PAM did lose to Forney that did well in playoffs BUT played Forney 1st round because they finished 3rd in a weak district that only one team made it out of the first round... BH lost in 2nd.. And PNG WINS STATE!!!... I take nothing away from PNG. You play who you play and they did well.. but to me if you use logic based on comparison of strength of schedule... PNG would have been out of playoffs 1-2 round had they not changed redistricting to separate D1 and D2.. They usually were 2-3 rounds before the change... so back to my question... is it the "Elite coach" that makes the difference or redistricting??
  23. First reread my post.. never said FBM was weak.. Said they lost to a very weak CROSBY team. You are proving my point.... 22-23 FBM made it to 4th round in 5A D-II.. 22-23 FBM lost to Crosby (a 5A D-I team that finished 4th in their district with a 6-5 record and out first round).. so Yea I would say FBM was a very Strong 5A D-II team.. average to WEAK had they been in 5A D-1.. Redistricting to separate 5A DI and DII divisions was huge difference.
  24. I have a question... I keep seeing the word "elite coach" and it looks like certain teams have it figured out. Is it really the coach that made the difference or the change by UIL districting with the change from separation from 5A-DI and DII?? Looking at PNG's losses the last two years... besides Oak Cliff.. the teams they lost to were beat by WEAK 5-D1 teams and out the first round.. (22-23 Marshall beat by a very weak Crosby team that finished 4th and out first round) (23-24 PA Memorial finished 3rd and out first round).
