1. 100 pitches is not a lot if the kid has proper form and is in shape.....when they get to 120 then the red light needs to come on in a coach’s mind........ THE KEY THING IS REST AFTER..... There are things a kid can do to prevent injury... ice and run.... these will get the acidity out of his muscle that causes damage... As for College, what do you think a college pitcher does.... he pitches every day... even if his arm is hurting.  30-60 pitches even after he has pitched the night before... It builds arm strength I have heard someone mention the pros watching when pitchers reach 100.... yes they do but it has to do more with being ineffective against the best hitters more than arm worries.... Now, after everything I have read I have not seen one person bring up the REAL problem why young pitchers are getting hurt or having arm problems… It has nothing to do with the coach… Some of you may not want to hear it…… But here it is……  YEAR ROUND SELECT BASEBALL!!!  Kids pitch year round and the arm needs to rest… They are throwing breaking balls, sliders, split fingers.. etc… before their arms have developed…  I have spoken to numerous of doctors and they said they love year round baseball because their Tommy John surgery has increased by 1500% since year round select baseball was invented.  Instead of doing one a week, they are doing about 12-15..  Some doctors have given up their  practice and just started doing this surgery alone…Some kids have had 2-3 surgeries before the even reach high school… If you want to blame the coaches for your sons arm problem go right ahead…. But the real problem is the parents for enrolling their child in year round baseball…
 2.
Is Gabby at full strength. Div 1 pitcher doesn't give up 11 hits?
That is bush... it is baseball... anyone can get hit at one apperence... I can remember Roger Clemens letting 3 runs score on him in 1A in 3 inn when he was making his come back... then went to a MVP year the same year... Gabby will be fine... just did not have a great outing...
 3. 100 pitches for a high school pitcher is not that many, when you get to 110+ then you worry about a kids arm.... I have seen coaches pitch a kid 170+..GCM vs Crosby last year.. that seemed crazy to me... Gabby's arm is better... he had a sore arm early in the year but is fine now... and has had low pitch counts all year... GCM just hit the ball... Good Job GCM.. As for bring in Herbert, maybe they need him for friday?? which is worse.. letting a kid pitch 110 pitches (which is not that high) or pitching a kid in back to back games???
 4. Crosby JV GCM     3 Crosby 12 Looking to be a good game vs Dayton JV on friday!! GCM cancelled their game soph game against Crosby the day of the game... I have heard it was because they have a game against St. Thomas on thursday... If this is true it is Bush!!! Cancelling a DISTRICT game to play a non district game!! Bad form by the coach on that one!!!
 5.
Dayton JV 17   North Forest 0  in 3.  Man I feel for the boys at north forest. It looked like they asked if anyone wanted to go on a field trip and play some baseball.  I honestly don't think they had ever played. To rub salt in, their bus left and they were stranded.
I don't know what is going on over there about their transportation..... their Varsity was late to the game against Crosby because they did not show up!!!! the kids jumped in their own cars and drove over!!
 6.
What makes his salary relevant, is because there are talks of BISD laying off some educators and teachers. Any normal and prudent person would give himself a pay cut to save teacher jobs.
At our school district... not only is the sup taking a pay cut... but so are the 3 assistant sups... and math and science are giving up their stipends to try to save jobs.... In BISD the sup gets a pay raise..... WOW!!
really all sports do not make money.... football may be the only one that might profit a little money... If you look at the costs (lights, equipment, refs, coaches salary, etc..) they all lose money but it is worth having for the kids...
Well, i dont know. I honestly believe that some schools profit quit a bit off of football. Look at your big HISD schools like Pearland. "The Rig" as it is called in Pearland probably has a capacity of 15k,(im speculating, havent checked), and their games are always capacity during the season. Also, our tickets around here are 5 dollars, and theirs are 8 dollars. So lets say that they have 70% capacity for a home game(or 10,500 people). Thats about 84k at that game. at a minimum of 5 home games per season, and the gate they charge for playoff games(wich ALOT of playoff games are played there)and they probably make over 1mil per season. i could be very wrong, but that is just an uneducated guess. Thats alot of money for 1 sport. Some D1 colleges dont even budget 1mil per season, so see what I mean? Football makes money!
I guess you can say that if you do not factor in ALL of the expenses... lets say "The Rigs" has 10,000 seating comp..... and lets set the price of a ticket at $10......  and they sell out every game....   10 games (2 teams play) is $1,000,000 a year.... Now how much did it cost to build that stadium.... I could not find it but lets say it is as much as "Carol Thomas Stadium".....  $40,000,0000..... So in 40 years you could make a good profit.... well renavations have to be made.... add another 5 million in 40 years.... so make that 45 years.... Oh wait what about cost of lights(i heard they cost $500 just to turn on) every game including JV, and freshman games.... refs, equipment(helmets, shoulder pads, jerseys, footballs, work out equipment) INSURANCE, medical persons on site, coaching salarys, trainers on staff, rehab equipment, athletic tape, Travel money (some districts charge the athletic department $400 to go 30 miles), a staff for clean up after games, staff for washing clothes every day, lockers,  ...etc.. as for playoff games... schools rent it out... they do not collect the profits for the game.... ticket sales go back to the schools that are playing... Now that I think about it... football costs the most.... But like I said.... It is for the kids... you cant put a price tag on what sports do for the kids.... Sports teach life lessons....
 8. Texas City was scheduled not a tournament and they were regional simi finalist last year... Kilgore is 8-8 this year... Vista is 12-8... 4-1 in district New Caney is 14-2... 4-0 in district Pine tree is 11-9.... 5-1 in district. Lumberton has a good squad this year... most of these schools throw their ace against crosby.... seems like they are better than you think... or you are just focusing on the negitives...
Your right about that, no consistent hitting this year. Not much at all for that matter.
they have a team batting avg. of .356.  they can hit the ball... just not last night.... when they did hit the ball it was right at them...
You posted .356 avg, what is your District play avg?  I didn't see anyone say Crosby couldn't, just that they weren't hitting and if they don't with BH & GCM coming up the pitching can't be expected to be perfect.  Let's be honest NF & King make that avg in district a lot healthier.  Another note I hope in the future Crosby plays a more aggressive non district tournament schedule.  Stay away from the 3A teams and play some 5A so district and playoff pitching isnt such a higher quality level.
I hate it whe people do not do their research before posting.... they had about the same avg. before they played NF & King... Crosby vs Lee avg. 087, vs. NF .318, vs King .500 vs vs. Galena Park... ?, not yet posted on Max Preps... As for you saying you did not see anyone say crosby couldn't hit...."Your right about that, no consistent hitting this year. Not much at all for that matter" And are you telling me that they did not schedule hard non district oppenents..... lets see Sante Fe, Bridge City, Vista Ridge, LCM, Lumberton, Kilgore , Pine tree, Texas City, Kingwood Park, Caney Creek, New Caney... are they not "top quality Oppenents?" Now this is baseball.... anything can happen... "when line drives become tripple plays and blooplers become game winners, anything is possible"...  they have had a couple of bad night where the ball did not bounce their way.... they are still a tough oppenent... I have full faith that the coogs will bounce back.... staring with GCM tom..... Go Coogs!!!

 12. Honestly, I really don’t care…. It’s not my money that is being misused. I have done some research on BISD before… I know that on numerous occasions when a renovation is required, that BISD somehow spends 3 times as much money on almost THE EXACT renovation that towns like Silsbee has spent..  I just don’t see how…. In a “silent bid”… that the cost is that much more (almost 3 million more)… hmmm.. And that the 9th and 10th graders at Central and Ozen taks scores are at 45% passing with no outcry from administration…. And how many “teachers” do all of the campuses have that are not certified???….. hmmmm…. These are just a few things that are wrong with BISD….. And numbers don’t lie…. Like salary!!!! I can tell you are a Thomas supporter…. Please tell me what has he done to deserve such a high salary?

He makes over $14.00 per student when every other supt. makes about $7.00.... and just got another raise while having to cut teaching positions.... BISD is crazy!!!
Seems like you are wanting to throw his salary in there even thought it proves on relevance in this conversation.  If you have a problem with the man's salary, why don't you try to get like him and make that kind of money instead of whining?
i am not whining.  I have nothing to do with BISD and want nothing to do with BISD.... I have heard too many bad things about that district from parents, kids, and teachers.... And I wish I could make that much money.... twice what all other people are making in my field of work... but if I did a bad job, like I hear the sup is doing all the time from people in that district... I would not be paid that much or had a stadium named after me.... I  WOULD BE FIRED!!! But if the right people are on the school board I guess you can keep your job ...

 18.
gabby didnt throw 89 against LCM..  THREW 83 , sat by scout from marlins, he was more impressed with lemoine from bc..... yes his (Gabby) arm was sore (he threw that satuturday) and is throwing better now.
I cant argue that. the report from the LCM box where they were posting on SETXSPORTS. said he was clocked at 89..... I thought it was more like 84 and fat. and yes his arm was sore... He had pitched Monday agaist Sante Fe in a complete game 3 hit, 7k,  shut out throwing 77 pitches.
 19.
Jeremy is a great pitcher. We at Lee can vouch to that but is very hitable if you ask me.I mean with guys that can swing the stick.
you are making it sound like you smashed him. Lee only had 6 hits in 7 inn ... esp when crosby had 4 er.  and i am sure they gave a hit on the ball to left field that the fielder missplayed a hit, and the game winning hit came after a er to make the 3rd out.  not really what I call smashing a pitcher.. I also heard his arm was not feeling right. only clocked at 89.  you did not face him at his best and you still only got 6 hits.... When he is on he is lights out!!
 20.
I don't know if anything was wrong with him, but against LCM he started, gave up three hits and and was pulled after the first inning. I am not talking bad about the kid, he is excellent, just wondering if he had a off day.
His arm was sore that game. that is why he did not pitch after the 1st inn.  He was still clocked at 89 that game but leaving it fat.  You got to be good if you have a sore arm and can still throw 89.
THE RULE: “A runner who fails to make a reasonable attempt to avoid a collision with a defensive player shall be called out. Any other runner advancing on the play shall be required to return to the last base visited. In the event that an umpire determines that a collision was flagrant (i.e., attempting to bowl over the catcher when it is clear that he has the ball and is waiting to apply the tag...), he has the authority to eject the offending player from the game.” Only professional baseball allows intentional collisions between runners and fielders. At every amateur level, due to an obvious concern for player safety, such contact is forbidden. If an umpire judges a collision flagrant, severe penalties may be imposed.
all three should be ejected... a runner has to avoid contact, a catcher cannot block the plate without the ball, and a player can not make contact or push another player.... i think umps are weard... they will throw a player out for wearing jewelry but not for some kind of physical act...
 24.
Donald, When I was a classroom teacher, I thought we placed too much emphasis on sports, had too many coaches, &, most of all, had too many kids missing classes for sporting events. However, I also saw that many athletes worked harder during their sports seasons in order to remain eligible. I saw that almost every coach invested a crazy amount of time in preparation & execution of their coaching assignments, & that they invested time & interest in their players, much more so than most regular classroom teachers. Now, I never got over the amount of classtime that students & coaches miss. And, I see today's budget crisis as an opportunity to truly make sports extracurricular, i.e., after school & on Saturdays.  I don't, however, want to see an end to high school sports, just curtail tournaments & track meets held during school hours & limiting the number of days students, not just athletes, can miss class. As for coaches & the classes they teach, well during this crisis, they may have to limit the number of athletics periodS to which they're assigned to one or, in worst case scenarios, none--with athletics being truly extracurricular & after school. But, I think this should be temporary, as coaches already devote inordinate amounts of time away from their families. I'd like to see at least one athletic class preserved, but in lieu of 35-40 kids @ class, the coach should teach an academic class or devote part of an athletic period to tutoring kids left behind because of the large class sizes.
great post... but it is not just athletic events that miss school..... UIL misses as well as one act play, AGG....  IF you have to cut athletic event travel during class then you have to do it for these as well...

Fact is he was a door to door salesman,a C-130 pilot for the US Air Force, and a cotton farmer
ok im going to go farther.... these are a list of all the rest of the coaches besides football at the high shcool and what they teach... Rizzo - baskeball - social studies Woods - track, cross country - math Reed - track, social studies Barnette - track - science slack - softball, vollyball - science welps - vollyball, softball - math Bickham - cross country, basketball - PE there is 7 coaches that do not coach football and 6 are core classes... you made it sound like every coach does health or PE.... YOU ARE WRONG!!! Coaches teach as well as coach....
