There’s a couple of examples of similar situations here. Looks like HCs are definitely looking at Reprimands and 2 year probations. Programs might also be looking at 2 year probations and one or both HCs may be looking at 1 game suspensions, going by UIL SEC precedent. [Hidden Content]

My only source is this thread and the Beaumont Enterprise article on the subject. I hadn’t even heard about this until today, no news about it at all in Baytown. Excuse me for wanting to see for myself what happened rather than take the word of anonymous folks online.

Rivalries: What creates a rivalry?
Goslin replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
I don’t know about creating one but it damn sure could contribute to it! -
DEC doesn’t have the power to do that, I don’t believe. It has to go to the SEC for punishments for Coaches/Programs. I’d expect, and this is just my guess after listening to prior hearings, that each HC might get a 1 game suspension/letter of reprimand over it for not being able to keep their bench from clearing out plus there’s also the possibility of a probation period for one or both of these programs and also for additional player suspension time added on by SEC. We’ll have to wait and see but there’s definitely gonna be SEC meetings with each HC/District bigwigs over this. I guess the bright side of all this is that with 5 RSS players out, maybe REL stands a chance of beating RSS tonight? Glass half-full here!

Beaumont Enterprise article on the fight listings consequences thus far. I imagine the HCs are gonna have to answer to the UIL SEC over it and there may be consequences for one or both of them for not being able to control their benches. [Hidden Content]

I don’t think it’s about wanting to “see kids fight” but more to see for themselves what started it and how bad things ended up. I don’t think anyone wants to see it out of any kind of enjoyment, at least I hope not.

Because they’re us. Half their population are Baytown transplants. That’s why they’re “New Baytown”. That’s where their inferiority complex comes from. They love to say they’re so much better, but then they look next door and can’t help but remember that’s where they came from, and if we’re really so bad over here then they’re really no better. It’s a fundamental difference in philosophy, really. In Barber’s Hill, they all say “We’re better than everyone else.” In Baytown we say “You’re no better than anyone else.” Sure, kick us while we’re down. Stomp us into the ground when we’re too weak to fight. That doesn’t make you any better than us. That makes you worse.

Criticism about my “reading and comprehension” when folks in Barbers Hill can’t even get their own name right. It’s supposed to be Barber’s Hill, with an apostrophe because it’s named for Amos Barber. [Hidden Content] OK, no more, I’ll move it over to the other thread if yall will too. -
The thread title is misleading. I don’t hate BH and I don’t believe there’s anyone in Baytown who does. I mean, their homers can be quite obnoxious and annoying, and we’re close enough to them to have to run into them constantly and have to listen to the same old spiel and when you try to say ONE THING about how BH isn’t ABSOLUTELY PERFECT you’ve got to listen to them say “BUT WHAT ABOUT BAYTOWN AND HOW HORRIBLE BAYTOWN IS YOU’RE JUST JEALOUS!!!!” and on and on and on instead of actually listening to a word anyone else has to say. If I wanted to live in BH I could do that. If I wanted my kids in BHISD I could do that. I don’t do it even though things are supposedly SO GREAT there because there’s a lot of stuff just under the surface that I just don’t like. If anything, they’re turning into New Baytown. That’s the most popular nickname for them right now and they hate it because it’s true. Half their population are Baytown transplants. Pretty soon you won’t be able to tell the difference.

No Friday Night Lights in East Houston? You’ve never been to North Shore, I’m guessing. No worries if you haven’t, Barber’s Hill will be playing there soon enough, great time for you to visit! There’s plenty of community and culture in Baytown, and there’s plenty of fan support too and how you can tell is that because with GCCISD doing the bare minimum it’s community support that keeps things going at all. I pity BH because at least in Baytown we can admit and accept some hard truths. Yeah, our town govt and school district are screwed up. We’ve had some folks in positions of power for a long time who are clowns and have screwed a bunch of stuff up and made us look bad. Things ain’t what they used to be, we know, and that’s OK. Folks in BH can’t admit any of those things are true about themselves when EVERYONE ELSE can see it plain as the nose on their faces. That’s why I pity BH. I do. I get that they don’t want my sympathies but it isn’t up to them. -

I don’t get how anyone could mistake pity for jealousy, but what do I know? I’m from Baytown. -

Rivalries: What creates a rivalry?
Goslin replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
I think history has a lot to do with it. A rivalry can’t be one-sided either or a mismatch in strength year after year after year. For a real rivalry you need a long history and two teams that more often than not are pretty close in strength. Otherwise it gets to the point where it’s not a rivalry but just a bully punching down and half the stands are empty because who wants to watch that? Take REL vs RSS in Baytown for example . There’s a decades-long rivalry, right there. Sure, there have been mismatches in that game over the years, BUT more often than not both teams are close enough in strength to make the game interesting. RSS became the “Rich School” the day it opened in ‘66 and forever cemented REL’s identity as the “Poor School” which it has embraced and made part of its culture. Instant crosstown rivalry from the very first game, plenty of fights in the parking lot after games. To this day the most attended game each year at Stallworth Stadium, probably the only game each year where the parking lot is overflowing and the stands are over half full. Rivalries can’t be forced. Just because one side wants it to be doesn’t mean it’s a rivalry. Hence the reason no rivalry between GCCISD High Schools and BH and no rivalry in GCCISD between GCM and REL/RSS. No history of it, mismatches in games year after year, not all sides want it. Speaking of rivalries, REL’s move down to 9-5A-2 means that it plays Texas City again, Coach Finn’s former school. Texas City was one of the first teams the Ganders played in their inaugural season 104 years ago and the way 9-5A-2 is set up it looks like REL vs TC is the game that’ll decide 4th place in-District and the last playoff spot. I’m hoping REL stays down there a while and that develops into a little rivalry. -
Talk about triggered! Man, if all you can do is just scream about how everyone else is a racist anytime someone says any little thing about your ISD, you might just be a racist, is all I’m saying. Methinks you doth protest too much! Seriously, BH is gonna turn into a rich man’s Vidor if y’all keep it up! Y’all are already well on your way! Really looking forward to your game against North Shore season after next! I’m less of an outsider than you think BTW. I’ll be sitting on your side of the stands enjoying every minute of it.
-
This kind of mindset, shared by way too many folks in BH, is why they’ll never make it to that next level. Making everything about politics down to their kids haircuts. SAD!
-
Coach Poole finally got what he wanted, his very own Simp(er)!
-
Well, bragging about outperforming GCCISD is like bragging about beating a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. Not exactly a good look.
-
Get that $200+ for 3-4 years knowing that’s how long it’ll last.
-
Well, dropping the name might out the person dropping it. Not a lot of folks know for sure yet.
-
I don’t know about the guy’s resume but I heard today that Poole’s got his man and it cost him.
-
It may not be listed in the posting but as now former BH HFC Abseck discovered it is absolutely a requirement. Does Supt Poole have any more High School age kids? I know there’s the one he went to jail over shielding him from drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident charges, and there’s the son Abseck refused to make a starter. Are there any other Poole kids that could conceivably cause a new BH Coach any grief?
-
Living up to your name with that guess. BTW, I know he’s still AD until his replacement is hired on but I think we can include Coach Abseck in the long list of ex-BH Coaches, no need to list him separately.
-
I was told something along those lines as well by someone who would know.
-
The way to do it would have been to not run Coach Abseck off because he wouldn’t give the Superintendent’s son playing time. That’s on the Superintendent, the Board, and the citizens who elect the Board. If BH is really hard up GCCISD has a recently removed HFC with 6A experience working at the District Office for the rest of the School Year who would jump at the chance! Has BH ever had a Black HFC? If not, think of the headlines!
