Or are they based on the love or hatred of the Broncos? Just curios.
Just think that Angleton has shown more so far in 2 games against tougher opponents than Dayton's one. I applaud Dayton's great comeback victory, but what got them down 28-7 midway through the 2nd before Elkins collapse/Dayton's adjustments? Angleton thoroughly dominated 2 very good, playoff contending teams, so maybe that's what they are going off of with the predictions.
I hope Angleton doesn't make the same mistake Elkins did and overestimate themself's and underestimate the Bronco's ! Really don't see Angleton dominating Dayton no matter how great the previous 2 teams you played were .

19-4A vs 20-4A...Who's better and why?
I'm so gonna laugh when Nederland DESTROYS BH this week. It sure is gonna 19-4A who's boss. And the final nail in the coffin is when Livingston shows Dayton what a real team plays like.
Big Ned is good no doubt ,but be realistic man they won't destory BH it will be a tight game ! And in all of the real games between Dayton/Livingston , Dayton riens supreme ! thats my 2 cents worth. -
Dayton will put them selfs in a postion to win no if 's an's or but's period ! This game will not be a blow out ~ two good teams getting after it . Minus our two star runnning backs we still managed a courageous come back against a very athletic 5a Elkins team . This Bronco team believes in its self and has the talent and even more the chemistry to play with anybody ! Angleton will be tested by a team that fears no one ! Go Bronco's !
-
Ned. has a fast athletic running -back that goes 110% on every play if BH's defense falls asleep trying to defend the pass he will go bye,bye ! :'(
Defense is key against Lamar, huh? I think we might be able to muster up some of that... ;)
Looks like Lamar didn't have much of an air game, but the weather might of been a factor .

By David Taylor (ActionJunction.com) Elkins quarterback Jake Burkhalter Elkins senior quarterback Jake Burkhalter is out to prove his lack of height will not limit him at the next level. (Photo by David Taylor) Posted: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 6:10 pm | Updated: 6:12 pm, Wed Aug 24, 2011. Elkins quarterback shorter in stature, tall in talent By COREY ROEPKEN Houston Community Newspapers | 0 comments Posted on August 24, 2011 by Corey Roepken Jake Burkhalter has most of the tools a kid needs to be a successful high school quarterback. Good arm. Great grasp of the offense. Trust of his receivers. A little mobility. The Elkins senior has the statistics to back it up, too. Last season Burkhalter passed for 2,160 yards in 11 games. He threw 20 touchdown passes and four interceptions. He completed 67 percent of his passes. The completion percentage almost is unheard of at the high school level so it makes sense that Burkhalter would have plenty of college scholarship offers as his final season begins. Despite all of those good qualities, however, there is one thing that has slowed down the recruiting process - his height. No matter how many camps he goes to and no matter how many big throws he makes he cannot escape the curse that college coaches found out he's only 5 feet, 11 inches tall. "I listen to it sometimes," Burkalter said. "It's kind of hard to run away from it. At the same time I am who I am. I'm not going to grow over a couple of days. I'm going to go out there, play like I'm 6-6 and see what happens in the future." Burkhalter has one more season to prove he's worthy of an opportunity at the next level. The Knights' season begins at 7 p.m. Friday at Dayton. Elkins has plenty of playmakers on offense, but without Burkhalter and his pinpoint accuracy they would not be as dangerous. The offense was a big reason why Elkins defeated Hightower last season. The Knights were the first Fort Bend ISD team to beat the Hurricanes in more than 20 games. Burkhalter completed 20-of-26 (77 percent) passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in that game. All three touchdowns went to wide receiver Chance Allen, who has developed a great on-field relationship with Burkhalter since their days on the freshman team that went 13-0. "I've always trusted Jake," said Allen, who is mulling over more than a handful of Division I offers. "I know he'll get (the ball) out there as soon as possible. If I raise my hand he'll put it on the money. It's a great combination." Allen said if the topic of recruiting comes up he tells Burkhalter to keep his head high and to take care of what he can rather than worrying about what the future holds. Elkins coach Dennis Brantley is just as confident in his signal caller. He said a decent high school quarterback will have a completion percentage of 58. The kids who win All-State awards are in the 65 percent range. That means, at 67 percent, Burkhalter is among the state's elite. Brantley said Burkhalter has the freedom to change a play if the situation warrants it. If Brantley makes a mistake calling in a play he is confident Burkhalter will make it right. Being comfortable in the offense, Brantley added, has nothing to do with height. "He's not too short. He's just not tall enough," Brantley said. "I think people should just look at his performance. If it is good and his grades are good then you need to give him an opportunity. You can play in any division as long as they're willing to build an offense around your abilities. Are they going to expect him to play like a 6-foot-5 quarterback or are they going to build their offense around a kid who is not 6-foot-5." If there is one other thing that hurts Burkhalter it's that he has not won any postseason games. He was the starter as a sophomore but got injured before the playoffs and didn't play. Last year in his only postseason appearance, Elkins fell behind early and never recovered in a loss to Dickinson. If the Knights get back to the postseason this season and win some games like they expect to, Burkhalter will have another chance to stand tall. "Coaches tell me if I show up on game day, put up points and get some wins there is going to be a coach out there looking for me," Burkhalter said. "I need to lead this team farther. We at least need to get past the first round.
I dont think you can put much stock in this team beat this team and that team beat that team. Adjustments are made (by good teams) week to week so you cannot compare a team you see week 0/1 compared to 8/9 and so on. What I do know is come playoff time all teams are 0-0 it dang sure doesnt matter who you played in pre-season #1 in the state or #400. ;D
I think they schedule tough teams in pre-district to better prepare for post-season. I do agree week to week adjustments are made by good teams but if you play cellar teams those adjustments might never of been made.

Defense dominates for Elkins in win over Houston Lamar Story Comments ShareShare Print Create a hardcopy of this page Font Size: Default font size Larger font size Tweet Posted: Saturday, September 3, 2011 10:30 pm | Updated: 10:36 pm, Sat Sep 3, 2011. Defense dominates for Elkins in win over Houston Lamar By COREY ROEPKEN Houston Community Newspapers | 0 comments Posted on September 3, 2011 by Corey Roepken MISSOURI CITY - Corey Thompson intercepted two passes in the final six minutes to put an exclamation point on the Fort Bend Elkins High School football team's 17-12 victory over Houston Lamar that was all about defense. Elkins gave up 22 points in the second half of its season opening loss to Dayton. On Saturday at Fort Bend ISD's Hall Stadium the Knights limited Lamar to three first downs after halftime. The Redskins did score in the second half, but that came on a 94-yard kickoff return by Cedric Lancaster with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter. That touchdown provided the game its final points. Elkins had just taken a 17-6 lead on Nick Coffman's 27-yard field goal. Elkins' biggest mistake in the second half came when receiving a punt midway through the fourth quarter. The punt hit the turf and bounced away from one of the return men. Instead of letting it roll dead in a crowd he tried to pick it up. All he did was touch it, and Lamar recovered on the Elkins 39. Instead of letting Lamar build momentum, Thompson took charge for Elkins. Two plays into the renewed possession Thompson broke on a pass down the middle and caught almost while running full speed. Elkins went three-and-out on the next drive, but Thompson got his second interception two plays into Lamar's next possession. Lamar had one more opportunity when it got the ball on its own 21 with one minute to go. The Redskins were on the Elkins 41 when the clock ran out. Elkins' Dorian Wiliams rushed 22 times for 132 yards and a touchdown. Jake Burkhalter passed to Chance Allen for Elkins' first touchdown. Burkhlater was 11-of-22 passing for 152 yards. Lamar's London Kirby had 21 carries for 95 yards, and Bradley Ward gained 69 yards on 13 carries. Lamar quarterback Darrell Colbert was 4-of-16 passing for 16 yards. He passed to Zach Mifrage for a 3-yard touchdown in the final seconds of the first quarter to give the Redskins a 6-0 lead. Lamar had 11 first downs in the first half and three in the second half.

Posts: 3598 Karma: +86/-66 [applaud] [smite] Brenham...Loved, hated, but never ignored! How good is Elkins? « on: August 31, 2011, 08:10:43 PM »Quote I heard Elkins being questioned on the preview show, so here's something that might help sort this out..... Elkins just played Dayton, and the Broncos pulled off a one point win. This weekend, Elkins will play Houston Lamar, who plays Brenham in 2 weeks. I figure after those games, you'll be able to tell how big the Dayton win over Elkins truly is. Just my opinion, but I found it interesting.

If our defense steps up like last week dont see why the broncos cant notch another victory. Hate bi weeks.
From my past experiences watching Angleton play "the well coached" part was no where in the equation. They will definetely have speed and athleticism. Things may have changed since the last time I seen Angleton play but the kids run this team.
Angleton has a new coach that actually runs the show and has implemented a good disicpline offense they will be a good test for the Bronco's.
Lamar is an above average 5A school. IMO, they are HISD's only legit team. Enrollment: 2,995 There last 2 seasons: Lamar 2010- 9-1 in the regular season. Lamar 2009- 9-1 in the regular season.
Insight : Elkinks punked Dayton first half ! High fives, belly fives the whole works from their vantage point this game was a done deal period! Dayton being Dayton in the second half bittch slap them and the rest is history ( If I would of not seen it with own my eyes I wouldn't of believed it ) I think the Broncos are a very special team this year and we haven't even reach are potential yet !

Have to agree the defense as a whole found their continuity ! The second half was impressive to wittness after being dominated by a seemingly superior 5a team and then to turn the tides for the win really drove home the " we all pull togeather as a team" concept. That had to be a confident builder for this young defense anchored by some talented SR's. The coaching staff doing an excellant job at half making adjustments to get the team in position for the win ~ Congrats to Coach Hancock for his first Bronco win !!! ~ The future looks bright ...

Im pretty sure anyone can beat willowridge, on top of that....They have 4a numbers, so thats not really a 5a program. with Dayton, i think they should of move up at least one spot. They are significantly smaller and undermanned in comparison to Elkins. the win was impressive enough for a bump
Humble398 were you at the Dayton/ Elkins game ?
