Vidor vs. Lumberton Predictions?
RustedCutlass replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Like I've been doing all year, I won't make a prediction. But I will say that after this Central loss, which even other people besides our fans are calling questionable after the televised broadcast, expect Vidor to be out for blood! (Figure of speech of course. ;D ) I'm already looking forward to next week. -
Did anyone watch the Vidor @ Central game on TV ?
RustedCutlass replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yeah, it is being discussed on the other thread too. But regardless, I believe it showed the area that Vidor is for real. If we can stop the fumbles, we will do very well. -
Man, what a game! Tough loss for my boys. Just watched the replay on FOX 4 game of the week and the player (Pitman?) is on his back in the end zone, over the goal line. But all that matters is if the referees raise their hands or not... : Regardless though, we took the hardest hitting defense year in and year out to the wire. We pretty much matched up with one of the highest caliber offenses toe to toe save for our fumbles WHICH WE REALLY NEED TO WORK ON!!! Without those two fumbles, Central loses two scoring drives. We have to protect the ball!!! So, congrats to the Jags on a great game with no quit. Beat the crap out of the rest of the district. We'll work at doing the same. ;D

NOW THE TRASH TALKING HAS TO STOP! VIDOR VS CENTRAL
RustedCutlass replied to Foyce's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yeah, you guys do have a tough pre-district schedule. The way things are shaping up in 20-4A, it looks like you may not get a break all season. Even LC-M is looking good. I'd put our district up against any 4A district in the state. This Friday, it all hits the fan district wide. ;D -

Talk is cheap. It is up to the boys to do what needs to be done ... and winning at Babe is no small feat. We'll give them a challenge, but we will need to bring our A-game. Hopefully Mathews saw some spots to hit while he was at that Saturday game against GB. Souljah1, I will see you at halftime! Hopefully I won't be having to console you too bad. But if we're losing, get ready to hear me rant. ;D -

Yeah, but we were still not as good that year as we are this year, IMO. -

I don't know, Jaguar-J. We've won at the Babe before and it was with a much less talented team. But whatever the outcome, I'm looking forward to this one. -

Over the past few years, Vidor and Central have pretty much come in on even ground ... hence the close games. I am expecting the same this year. As I have all season so far, I won't make a prediction. But I have a feeling it will be close whichever way it ends up. This will be the only night this year I root against Central, so all I can hope for from my Pirates is for them to do what they do best ... wear the Jags down and keep their offense off the field. -

Well, I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of the week. But yes, even Mathews said that we didn't come out focused and and did not do a good job of holding onto the ball. The Central scouts came in expecting to see a good ground game. They were not expecting a 43-yard touchdown strike through the air with Dozhier hitting Johnson square between the numbers though. So, they won't be able to just focus on the run now. I like our chances. See everyone in two weeks! ;D -
I used Texas as an example. I guess only dumb people use valid examples though, right? Dang, who knew! Thanks for doing us a favor and clearing all that up! No more examples needed! :D Okay sarcasm over ... how is a weak preseason schedule alright for team building as long as it is a college team but not if it is a high school team? Don't call people names, just answer the question.
-
All the research in the world will not change the FACT that in this MODERN TIME (not the past, in other words ) they play a very, very, VERY weak preconference schedule. Yet all the T-shirt UT fans are expecting Big 12 Championship and National Title every year. So are you people defending UT's WEAK schedule saying that who you play before conference dosen't matter if you are a good team? ???
-
National title or not, it is still a poo-poo schedule and I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees that.

Hardin-Jefferson @ Vidor Predictions?
RustedCutlass replied to HJ-Hawks25's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Central has the hardest hitting defense in 20-4A. Harder than us, harder than Lumberton, harder than every other team. Everyone knows this ... and if they don't they darn well should. And it will take a hard-hitting defense to stand up to an offense that does not play the spread. I'm just reading between the lines here, but I believe that is what the poster was referring to, Diamond-J. -
Aries456, thanks for pointing this out. I've thought that for years. No one ever mentions the Bonghorns weak pre-conference schedule year after year after year ... despite the fact they they are picked to be dominant in the Big 12 yet again this year. Go figure. Shouldn't they be playing teams like Boise State, USC, LSU, and Florida to prove that they are a dominant team worthy of their ranking? Why don't they? I'm not making an excuse for Mathews and company ... I just think what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Attack EVERY team in the state that plays a weak preseason schedule.

I didn't hear anything about Peevey getting injured, but I talked to Pittman on Sunday and he said that he had pulled some ligaments around his left ankle. He was still walking with a slight limp. But he said that he should be back to normal by Wednesday. I'm kinda hoping Mathews doesn't play him Friday and just lets him heal back up during the H-J game and the bye week. Because we're going to need him 110% against Central. -

Good outlook, 25. As for my Pirates, just play to your capabilities and stay injury free. After this, district here we come! GO PIRATES!!! -

Evadale big. Nichols is one tough kid and Stanley isn't anyone to sneeze at either. -

Thanks baddog. I guess I do like you, even if you are a Cowboys fan. And to all you haters out there, I do agree we need stiffer competiton in pre-district. Check some of my earlier posts. But for you to come on here to cut down our boys like they are pushovers just because they play the teams that the coaches schedule? What the crap? Our boys do their job and they do it well. At least have the cohanas to recognize that and give credit where credit is due. The fellow I'm quoting obviously has them ... how about you? So, I'm glad you pointed that out baddog. Kudos to you. -

Hey indianforever (and every other purple wearing hater out there): Yes, I think we should play bigger teams now BUT we played Kelly and St. Thomas last year in the pre-district contests, remember? And we still kicked your butts, remember? How did you grade us last year, huh? I grade us having a more improved line even than last year. You are choosing to be blind this year for some reason. Better hire you some purple and white stripes this year or it will be a sad night at the Reservation. Our team is much improved over the team that beat the crud out of you last year. ;D (No offense intended to the Indian fans out there who post with class.) -

Actually, I would have thought last year would have made a believer out of him. Time heals all wounds I suppose... -
Vidor @ Houston ST Thomas Predictions?
RustedCutlass replied to VP93....'s topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
My thoughts exactly. The whole idea is a building process to strengthen your defensive play against the pass and run. What our offense does, well, it will do the same to everyone we play. So, even if Jeff had us playing a 5A school, hopefully it would be an offense built on the pass. We have to work on speedy receivers and yards after catch. -

Actually, no. I think the horsecollar is a bad move. One of our players was brought down with a horsecollar on Friday night. No flag. That is why even though we had the first down, Vidor fans were booing the refs. Worry more about the outlawed stuff that doesn't get called, westend1. Griping about legal moves as if that makes us "dirty" is pretty much like spitting into the wind. Worthless, and makes you look hilarious. -

I think I sense a little bitterness. Chin up, kellybulldawg. You guys look ready to do some damage in your district play this year.
