I think you just described how most football games are lost to teams that don't give up. No credit at all given to the Ned kids. Thanks. I also find it laughable that a WO-S fan is using refereeing as an excuse for losing.  I saw nothing coachable as the reason you lost. Why not count on your defense when they played like they did. WO-S should be used to playing their players a full 48 minutes. You never have had what I call a full squad. With a 13 point lead and a great defense, I see no problem with working on the clock. That's smart coaching. Sometimes the other team still has some left in the tank.
Ditto.  Nederland earned this because they stuck it out for four quarters.  Coach T and his staff had a good game plan.  They didn't do anything different in the second half compared to the first half.  The only difference there is the players started having trouble with the center snap exchange, which interrupted the flow of their offense, plus they penalized themselves with some illegal procedure calls.  This put them in too many long yardage situations to move the chains.  That had nothing to do with coaching.  The kids simply lost a little composure.  It was mistakes and lack of execution on our offense, something that is very correctable over time.  You also have to remember that this offense is new.  With more practice and game repetition, they will execute it closer to perfection.  Still, they did a pretty good job executing it Friday night.  mustangproud, do you think Verrill Young would have done better?  No way.  Also, did you know that Toby Foreman's new team was beaten by Vidor Friday night?  No disrespect intended to Toby whatsoever, but just use these two points in assessing your perspective.  Cornel was/is the right man in the right place.  He will have MANY more W's than L's by the time he hangs it up.  Be patient.
Well put griff!
 2.
I congratulate Nederland on a great win.  It was impressive to see them not give up when it looked like they would lose.  There were questionable officiating calls in this game, but they did not decide the outcome.  The final score was decided by two factors.  1) WO-S played sloppy offense in the second half.  There was a combination of too many fumbled snaps, low snaps, and procedure penalties that put us in long yardage situations and killed the drives.  We definitely should have scored more than once in the second half and, therefore, Nederland's late comeback would not have been enough.  2) Nederland did not give up.  Except for the nice TD pass in the first quarter, the WO-S defense dominated Nederland until about midway in the 4th when the Bulldogs hit a few pass plays and broke a run or two.  Yes, WO-S should have made that tackle in the backfield and essentially ended the game, but Nederland did not give up.  They deserve credit for that and for the win.  Nice win, Bulldogs.  You earned it the hard way.
I think you nailed it , to many penalties!

We at SETXsports are pleased and proud to play a part in this exciting new venture which is the brainchild of Southeast Texas' own Jim Barton!
Cngrats on a great job!

Guess all the wanna be doc's that speculated were wrong :)
I doubt the trainer was trying to play doctor... I think she probably thought it better to error on the side of precaution...  ::)
Yes agreed always best to be on the safe side, that also came from the Vidor trainer  and he has been doin it awhile. Theres just no way to know on the field.

That will help prepare them for district. On the other hand I dont see how it helps Ozen as much for preparing for district. As for Vidor also. Well maybe it does give them a head of steam going into there following week games.
New name for you Jackthehater!!!
I think your way off base here, Kirbyville has gone very deep in the playoffs the last few years just appears they might have a down year but one cant be criticized for playing down a level when they have been as good as the cats have been lately.

Daniel Woodson went to the doctor and what was thought to be a torn Acl, turned out to be an ACL strain. If he does everything he needs to do, he could be ready to play in a week or two.
Outstanding news!  Glad to know he won't have to sit out the whole year!
;D ;D

If he conducts himself this way under these circumstances I can only image how he acts "the other 362 days of the year". I find it amazing how people rationalize and condone such behavior.
Yep
 11.
I thought the Pirates looked better this week than they did last week and that's exactly what you want to see in these scrimmages as they get ready for the season, still got work to do on both sides of the ball...2 turnovers (1 fumble, 1 pic.) inside the red zone are costly. The Pirates defense was in the backfield on most of the pass plays WOS ran after they began to spread the field but couldn't quite get to Salter....gotta work on that for sure. Late in the scrimmage Vidor got sloppy with their tackling, no excuses for that. Some positive things I saw, Vidor's defense played well against the run and the passing game, particularly early on. The Pirates offense ran the ball well, when the Stangs shut down the inside, Vidor went to their TB Bolinger and the speedy WOS defense could not contain him he had 2 TD's for the night. Quiante at QB had a great TD run....(hope that ref. is going to be ok.) When the Stangs lined up in their pistol formation, with the QB about 4 yards behind the center it does open things up a lot, I think this formation works well for WOS, it gives them the chance to fire all their bullets and they have loads of ammunition.
That qb-middle linebacker for Vidor is a game changer they have to keep the ball in his hands as much as possible  did a great job on defense too.
 12.
Just got word that Daniel Woodson is out for the season with a torn ACL. Could possibly be back if we go deep into the playoffs. We have other good players to fill in,  but he's a heck of a player. The bright side of it, he's a junior so he can rehab and come back next year.
What ashame he is a good one.
 13.

Ok.Where have I been because I have no idea what the pistol is???
The Pistol is where you keep the Tight End, 2 Slots and a WR or WR and 1 Slot with two RB's. The QB is in shotgun and the RB lines up behind him. Sometimes there will be a FB line up next to the QB but the Tailback is always behind the QB. When the QB hands the ball off to the RB his pads are parallel to the LOS so the RB can see the entire line and pick his hole and hit it. The QB can also fake and keep it and run around the end or roll out pass. It's really more effective for running because of what I mentioned earlier, the RB has his pads parallel to the LOS so he can pick his hole unlike the Spread where he gets the ball on the Zone and he has his pads going to one side or the other, he is limited to that half of the field. When he gets the ball in the Pistol the whole field is open, he just has to find his opening, make his cut and go.
They moved the ball good in that formation and the qb threw the ball very good last night.
 14.
Just what I was told by someone who was there: Score when both teams 1st units were on the field: Vidor   17 WOS     7 When 2nd units were on the field Vidor      0 WOS     13 Take that for what it's worth. Can somebody confirm this or is it not accurate?
I am pretty sure the ones were in for both teams most of the night, now I know vidor played 2 qbs all night.
 15. Hate to see that kid go down, great come back by the stangs . ok ready? they won it with a 34 yd. field goal!!!!
 16. Watching is great, wait and talk to the coaches after practice unless they approach you.
Trust me, LCM is much better than Kirbyville. ;) You will see tomorrow night when Silsbee scrimmages LCM.
I agree LCM is much improved from a few yrs. ago and they bring alot of size and speed to the game.
Thats not the point! This is the season. If a Sr. and a Fresh had exactly the same skills, attitude, etc., I would start the Senior every dang time. The Freshman has years to go, and the Senior has only the season left, and the peformance would be the same. It is a DISSERVICE to the Senior who put so much time and effort in to sit the bench behind a Freshman. The kids DO matter. Politics hurt kids. Think this out!     (Disclaimer: I don't have a Sr., and this is just general commentary not aimed at any particular school, etc).
Believe you got it right!

 22.

I would say the Pirates could be in big trouble this year.  When your backup quarterback is an all district middle linebacker, you are in trouble. No way should that team have that player at quarterback.  All that will do is assure that he gets hurt.  His legs just cant take that sort of pounding.  I honestly thought that the Pirates didnt look very sharp at all and OF is a small school.  Lord, I hope they get a lot better before the start of the season.  WOS is next on the list and lets see if they make some improvements before they tee it up against some speed and size.
Ok.. That is easy to say when you havent seen this kid play... He will be going both ways and no way will he get hurt... he is an athlete always looking for a good hit... Besides we all know that he will not have to throw much playing for Vidor. It wont be a problem... This is his third year on varsity he will do well...
:o
