  1. I saw Top Gun Maverick tonight. It was certainly entertaining, especially if you saw the first and realize the number of references to Top Gun. I mean from the opening scene until the closing credits,…. It even opened to the same music and the same words on the screen or it explains….. in 1969 but Navy established a school for there top 1% of its pilots…. “Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School. The flyers call it……… (Next slide/page) TOP GUN” Then it breaks into Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins with a virtual remake of the opening scenes on the carrier deck but launching F 18s instead of F 14s. I mean the same angle on the cameras, steam coming out of the catapult and blowing across the deck, the bar/sled being hooked up to the nose wheel, the salute from the pilot, the takeoff, etc. I mean if you did not know where you were at and saw the opening couple of minutes, you might think you were seeing the original Top Gun. I thought that touch was outstanding. Instead of beach volleyball its beach football. Instead of Iceman being the over the top “I’m better than the rest of you”white guy, it’s Hangman. But no spoiler alerts from me. I will say that if you’re watching the last 10 minutes or so of the movie and you can’t figure out what is going to happen, you haven’t been paying attention much…. Overall it was a very solid and entertaining movie. It was not in my top 10 or 20 greatest all time movies or anything approaching that but it is worth seeing at the theater.
  2. The ACA was passed with a large Democrat majority. The Republicans didn’t have the votes to stop it. It was not a compromise. Much like the assault weapon ban under Clinton ended the Democrats majority in a landslide victory. The ACA ended Democrat control but the rest of Obama’s 6 years.
  3. That is nonsense. They were not in control with an unbeatable majority in both houses. The Senate takes 60 votes to break cloture and bring it to a vote. While 51 votes can pass a law, it takes those 60 to break the filibuster to get to the final vote. If that was not true, why are we debating gun control? Why don’t the Democrats with control of both houses and the presidency simply pass a law? A simple answer is easy, they can’t.
  4. Yes, that is why I specifically stick with murders. Gun control arguments always talk about suicides but usually forget to mention it. ABOUT 25,000 PEOPLE A YEAR ARE KILLED BY GUNS!!!!! … and 9,000 of them are murders. And I am not negating the tragic nature of the 9000 or all of the suicides but with the gun control argument from the anti-gun people, it’s almost certainly disingenuous.
  5. That was the cost of Obamacare. My city insurance deductible went from $1500 to $5000. My wife’s monthly premium on my employee account went from $230 A month to almost $500. The “Affordable” Care Act is affordable for those not paying. Sure, all of a sudden people have insurance… by me (as an example) more than $6,000 a year increase every year since enacted. I probably paid an additional $60,000+ since it went into effect. Affordable? Sure, for the votes it was intended pay for.
  6. I have said it a few times in various threads. The actual firearm used rarely makes a difference except where a rifle has extended range capability. The two incidents that I can think of off the top of my head are the Mandalay Bay shooting in Las Vegas and they five police officers killed in Dallas. The annual FBI statistics show that in an average year, rifles of any type and any situation are responsible for by 350 deaths out of 15,000 murders. Hands, feet and weapons held by the hands such as knives or clubs, are responsible for about 3000 deaths. Assuming that you could magically remove all rifle homicides from the equation, instead of 15,000 deaths you would have 14,650. That means that of those 350 rifle homicides, the shooter could not think of or have another means to kill you such as a shotgun, a hand gun or a knife. To put it in simple terms, if you could stopped all homicides that were committed with a rifle, you would be talking about a 2% reduction. They’re wanting to call legislative sessions, making a certain weapon illegal, etc., for something that I have a 2% chance of improvement. Then you would have to rely on the fact that the person angry enough to commit murder would not be able to do so by other means. Anyone that thinks this is anything other than political and control, has not been paying attention.
  7. Here is another Brandon Tatum video and it shows some of the foolishness that the media puts out, spins and also how the false stories get told from the claimed witnesses. I don’t know how many people saw it from this forum but on the first day that was the claim that a woman was handcuffed but later broke away and went into the school. The story I saw she was saying (according to the media) that the officers were not doing anything but were arresting parents. This woman was supposedly briefly arrested. But then after she was released she broke away from them, got into the school and got her kids out. It was at least implied that she went into the school where the shooting happened. This is her story as told by her to the media. The media runs with it and gives the implication that the police were not securing the school and we’re doing nothing. At one point the woman said I went to my son’s classroom and the police stopped me and then a short time later said she encountered no police while in the school. NEWSFLASH: Both can’t be true. I’m going to assume that all or most of what she said is true. The problem is not the story through her eyes but what the media tried to spit it into. But…. At least this reporter made some very good observations that indirectly criticized what the woman stand. The story is about 17 minutes long but it should be very enlightening. [Hidden Content]
  8. I don’t know what that is supposed to show but it shows nothing when I click on it. It goes to my Facebook home screen.i
  9. A remake of it original movie, not a sequel, “basically” using the original script. Such as…. Dune Red Dawn True Grit The Thing Invasion of the Body Snatchers Miracle on 34th Street Midway Any number of movies named Godzilla or King Kong etc. But, like sequels, sometime the remake is better or more entertaining. Scarface and The Thing come to mind as great remakes.
  10. And sequels…… how about remakes? Geez…..
  11. If I was Uvalde or Uvalde ISD police chief, I am not sure I would cooperate either. I honestly don’t remember a police incident where so many commanders or politicians were falling all over themselves pointing fingers. They have their scapegoat(s), now the walls are moving in to attack. I am really disgusted in the way this has been handled after the fact. There might’ve been bad mistakes made but they are not looking at it to improve or to see what happened. They are looking at it to clear themselves and to look leader like by pointing fingers.
  12. And as far as looking at how he got money or credit, I can still find no information at all where it explains why the officers inside made mistakes by not going in sooner. I mean none other than various politicians and chiefs pointing fingers at other people. They have released no information as to the information and ability of the officers in the hall except to say… It wasn’t me, it was the other commander’s fault and they should have gone in sooner. Maybe that is true but they have released nothing to back that up except the finger-pointing.
  13. I followed none of the trial whatsoever. I did watch the verdict however because I thought it was funny when you say millionaire actors admitting to getting mad at a spouse and crapping in the bed in retaliation. You can’t even say these are normal people because they have money. Some are almost certainly just like anyone else when they get away from the set but talent and acting does not give them any more chance at reasonableness of being a normal person that anyone else. Famous people can be some really whacked out idiots. tossing money at them that they were probably not raised with just asked to their insanity in some cases. But it is sometimes entertaining watching the exploits of rich people acting way more stupid than the average citizen living in a neighborhood.
  14. There is absolutely a well intended part. It is well intended to keep a group of people in the fold.
  15. Hopefully. I wish the DA like in the Duke rape case and in the Ahmaud Arbery cases get handled. Of course in those cases there was a cover-up and in the Rittenhouse case the prosecutor just stretched reasonableness. I think in the Duke case the DA was disbarred and had criminal charges filed and so far there are criminal charges pending on the DA in the Ahmaud Aubery case.
  16. The sequels that comes to mind as an improvement over the first is Aliens over the original Alien and Terminator 2 over Terminator.
  17. Without Africans selling Africans for profit, there is no slave trade. According to Thomas Sowell, 1 out of 3 free Blacks in New Orleans were slave owners.
  18. Demand reparations from the various countries and/or tribes from Africa. They created the western slave trade by capturing other Africans and selling them as a commodity.
  19. I don’t feel like looking it up at the moment but I seem to remember something about the Columbine shooting and someone illegally helped them get some of the guns. I don’t think he knew there was going to be a shooting and probably went crazy when he found out but his crime of unlawfully getting guns for them caused many deaths. Certainly prosecute him.
  20. Any time there is such an incident a full investigation should be done to make sure no one else was involved. IF NONE were (which is extremely rare), then it really doesn’t matter. I am always curious when there is such a huge incident in the news and the media reports that the police are investigating why the person was angry or suicidal or whatever. I always wonder why it matters his motive if he is deceased. If they can track it to another person, great, file all the charges possible. But if investigation shows that he was a lone person acting without assistance, what does it matter? His mama didn’t give him a cell phone until he was 15, his girlfriend later rejected him, he was bullied in second grade, etc. Sometimes I think that is just fodder for the media.
  21. The Texas Size spoons at HEB…. along with the Texas bowls.
  22. I think it is important only if someone helped him. He could have saved it, stolen it, used grandma’s credit cards, etc. If someone gave him the money knowing his intent, then that person also committed a crime. If no one else was criminally involved, how he got it might be an entertaining footnote in a horrible story. in my opinion……
  23. I know hardly anything about these murders except the timeline… somewhat. That in the piling on of the Uvalde ISD police chief. Maybe deserved and maybe not but I have seen no facts to substantiate either.
  24. I can’t agree with this. It’s coup de grâce.
  25. Cruise is probably politically, personally and religiously goofy in my opinion. But the guy can act and has been in several entertaining movies. The ones that I think of are such as…. Taps Top Gun Cocktail Young Guns Rain Man Born on the Fourth of July A Few Good Men Jerry McGuire Minority Report The Last Samurai War of the Worlds Jack Reacher And other good ones.
