That’s why I was thinking about squirrel hunting. We would go out in the national forest and use 22s to hunt and shoot squirrels in the top of the trees. Once it gets past that canopy, no telling where it will come down.

When I am teaching the Penal Code at the police academy, I actually make up a scenario like this to distinguish between Murder, Manslaughter and Criminally Negligent Homicide. If you shoot and kill someone, it could be any of those which range from two years maximum to 99 years. One of the scenarios is that you were shooting a gun and accidentally hit someone a good distance away that you did not even know was there. Fortunately this girl appears to be suffering from a minor injury but it could have been a lot worse.

It says it was from a 22 and nobody heard any shot. It was probably somebody a good distance off shooting at something in a tree, target practicing etc. I think it is squirrel season so it’s probably somebody out there in the woods since a lot of people use a 22. I have not bought .22 rounds in a long time but many years ago there used to be a warning on the box saying that it would travel up to a mile.

Well, if social media users are your standard for medical data, I guess you can use that. Certainly opinions matter but you we’re not talking about opinions when you posted an article and said, “ I stand corrected. It’s a 99% survival rate“. Yes it is, according to Facebook users. Again, there is absolutely nothing in that article from any kind of medical data from any source whatsoever that says Covid has a 99% survival rate.
-
Yes, I read past the first paragraph. Apparently you did not or maybe you were just scanning it. I can accept that. You probably saw something interesting that fit your agenda and stopped. As you can see from your first paragraph, the 99% comes from, “social media users”. Apparently they are getting some of their data from this forum. Here is a quote from later in the article from the actual author…. “While the exact mortality rate of COVID-19 is still not known, a hypothetical rate of 1% would still result in a massive number of deaths if left to spread unchecked.”. As you can see, they are using a hypothetical rate of 1% to show that even if it was that low, it would still be a serious issue.
-
Out of curiosity, did you read the article? No where in the article does it say there’s a 99% survival rate. The article makes a case for the Covid vaccine to be very effective, in comparing the potential effectiveness of the vaccine to the survival rate is almost meaningless.

I have never understood the flu deaths argument.

Okay, a reply. You never know. WOS might have scored 3 touchdowns and won 27-14. But, WOS had 130 yards of offense in almost 3 full quarters. Nederland had almost 300 yards. Yards are meaningless and don’t count for anything but the game was not exactly going WOS’s way. Nederland’s wide receiver Fuselier had more yards and touchdowns than WOS. We will never know “what if”. A turnover? A couple of long runs? Merely looking at the score doesn’t tell the way the game was going. Nederland might have collapsed the way PNG did a couple of weeks ago but if a frog had wings, he wouldn’t hit his butt every time he hopped.

No, it’s just s way to clear your cases!! How many unsolved robberies do we have? Oh, 8? Ok, this guy matches the clothing description on 8 robberies…… 😂😂😂 Yeah, it was probably him. They didn’t need 15 years of experience and eight years in detectives to figure that one out. From the comments I saw on Facebook before they released this information, about 80% of the public had that one figured out.

Only that it had something to do with a crane.

Sure. If you can’t tell from my posts, I love talking law and in particular Police work. I teach college credit courses at LIT in Beaumont on the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, report writing and my favorite, arrest, search and seizure which is basically constitutional law and statutory law on what is legal for the police. I know personally about a lot of the cases that are in the news and sometimes discussed in this forum but I simply cannot give me information. It is not illegal to give the information unless it is a juvenile suspect’s name but it can sometimes destroy an investigation. I would even sometimes like to discuss why the police don’t give this information. They aren’t hiding it, They are simply going by the law that tells them what evidence they could used in court (Code of Criminal Procedure). Up until five months ago when I retired, many of the times if you saw an article in the newspaper or the television media, the words were exactly mine cut and pasted from a news release that I had written. I might have been the only seen supervisor but I only release with the police department want me to. Once the charges have been filed, I can discuss a lot of the issues that I will not beforehand.

I made that point a couple of days ago in another forum. In the 2008 presidential election, the Republican stance was that the Democrats would eventually come up with death panels to determine who lives and who dies. Of course that was scoffed at as a scare tactic. I said this mandatory vaccination talk from the federal government is exactly what the Democrats denied 13 years ago. If a person was denied life-saving treatment because of a personal choice not the take a vaccination, that is one more step toward those death panels that we heard would never exist.

Imagine that. We never saw this coming. 2 social workers kidnapped…..

I am not disagreeing with the policy:…. But it’s why we “jokingly” call them second responders. 😀 But you know when I first started, we never heard the phrase, EMS and fire are staging. They would generally go in and then if they saw something, slow it down or back out and tell the police to come in and maybe step it up. With the crazy world we live in today and not 40 years ago, I agree with the policy. 👌 For the second responders….. 😂 -
Yes, Thompson probably wasn’t the top of his class. His staff tried to play it off later and said he was just using it like a joke or a metaphor or something because of too much military personnel. With all the lead up questions about the size in the shape of the island, you can tell it was not a joke. Anyone can understand the joke if during the discussion a congressman laughed and said, “We are going to get so many people on the island it might capsize“. I believe he thought it could roll over like a ship because it was long and narrow. I don’t really think Water is stupid though, she is just filled with hatred. Her hatred is so embedded in her mind……

You know when somebody tells you a juicy secret but then says I will tell you but please don’t tell anyone and you say, don’t worry I will never mention it. But it is such a good story, you break down and go to your best friend and tell him but say, please don’t tell anyone because I promised not to tell. The friend goes then to another friend…… My old Cajun boss used to have a saying that went…. ”Don’t tell but if you tell, tell the one you tell not to tell”. But I will not compromise a police investigation or cut myself off from information because I could not keep my mouth shut. One time another detective came to me with such juicy information. It was actually within his business to tell me because it involves him. My friend said don’t tell anyone else because you are the only one I have told and the only one I am going to tell. He was not compromising anything but just did not want anyone to know just yet. A couple of days later I heard the same story but from another person. I went straight to my friend and said hey, I have not told anyone because I gave my word but I just had another police officer give me the same information. He admitted that yes, he broke down and told a couple of other people. Oh well…… I am not that person though. But wow…..
