  1. I really don’t have much interest in this game other than it is certainly the game of the week in this district. But, 14.2’s comment makes perfect sense and it’s not apples to oranges. “Look as good” means today. Yes the new coach only has five games. That is all 14.2, can compare it to… not five years from now. The way I read it, as of today they don’t look as good as they did previously. In the future? Who knows? They might have the best defense in the state. This week game isn’t played sometime in the future but in about 40 hours.
  2. That would be discrimination. We tried to pay one to come rain dance at Bulldog Stadium for MCM but none would. We had to resort to watering the field again….
  3. Which way? 😀
  4. Hater!! Nederland is easily the class of this area. I think Dave Campbell’s is basing their ranking off of the fairly deep run last year, beating Crosby in the final, reputation and then won loss record. Nederland might start 5-0 and end with 0-5. I really don’t see how they’re in the top 10 but it is interesting while it lasts.
  5. I think that is the nature of the business. When Faircloth came over from Odessa, I don’t think he brought their staff with him but maybe a coach or two. He did bring in people he thought were good coaches from other programs, maybe that he knew personally, maybe that he coached against or knew their reputation. I can’t imagine a coach from some another far away school saying, this is my dream shot. I have been wanting all of my career to be a line coach at PNG while they’re being coached by a new unproven HC from Odessa. Yes that was intended to be silly but it’s true. I think coaches like he brought in are always looking to move up the food chain no matter the school or coach. It is likely that every coach that was brought in by Faircloth was thinking, this guy might do very good with a well-known program and it might be my ticket to be an offensive coordinator or head coach somewhere else. Again, that’s just the nature of the business. It is true that some people from an area might enjoy coaching in that area or school and not be looking to move up. Nederland, PNG and other programs certainly have coaches that are not looking to move and will remain with a district if allowed for the remainder of their careers. I would actually be kind of shocked if any coaches that came with Faircloth from out of the area were still with him. That would not be the same in a situation like with Matt Burnett or Monte Barrow where they were coaching at their alma mater and had a long time coaching staff with them. imo….
  6. But looking at the UIL rules, I did not see any modification for the point after penalties.
  7. I don’t know the answer of the penalty. I thought the UIL rules were, we go by NCAA rules “except”, and then they change a bunch of rules. Meaning, just because the NCAA does it does not mean the UIL approves it.
  8. It is not technology. It is because there is no one there that is paid to do it. The local news media now is almost nonexistent compared to what it was. That is from regular news to sports to whatever. You can go to any of the local media Facebook pages and see dozens or even hundreds of comments about an incident. Then someone will ask, what about the details, which way did they run, what do they look like, etc. and why wasn’t that information in there? more than likely the reason is, the story was not from a reporter. It was likely from a news release from a police department and sometime copied word for word or it is rewritten saying the same thing. A reporter probably did not show up at the scene although I do see them on rare occasion. I have brought this up before usually in another forum. As a police officer when I used to show up at some kind of major incident (house fire, shooting, robbery, etc.) 30 years ago, once the scene was secured, one of the next steps was to set up an area for the media. They naturally wanted to get close to the scene where they could take pictures or talk to witnesses. I could show up at a large house fire at 2 AM and within about 30 minutes I might be talking to reporters from the Beaumont Enterprise and Port Arthur News and also from the three local television stations. So I would have at least five reporters asking questions and wanting to know details. I think they used to have at least one junior reporter listening to the police and fire scanners at night. I have had a few reporters called me and tell me that they just heard something on the radio and wanted to know if it was worth showing up at the scene. I would not be surprised if any officer that has less than 15 years of experience, has ever talked to or even seen a reporter at a major scene. They surely would not know what I was talking about if I walked up to one and said, where is the media area going to be. I believe it is the same way as sports. At one time the papers had full staffs of reporters for all kinds of new stories. I would not be surprised if newspapers have lost 80% or more of their reporters. I think the technology is what killed it. The news media no longer depends on hiring several persons to drive to locations to find out what is happening. That includes local sports. They have not completely vanished and there are still reporters but they have certainly been cut way back. In my opinion.
  9. It looked to me to be pretty much an even ball game. Either team could’ve won by two touchdowns. They were really two keys to the outcome. 1. 2 turnover returns for touchdowns for Nederland 2. Kyndon Fuselier
  10. PNG takes last timeout at 0:55
  11. Timeout Nederland 4-6 from PNG 35
  12. Fuselier only does… kickoffs, punts, wide receiver, running back and defensive back.
  13. Turnover on downs again by Nederland at PNG 37
  14. Nederland punts and PNG ball at 7. 1:31 in half.
  15. Nederland ball at own 30 after kickoff.
