And you can thank the Democrats for that. When Bush first entered office one of his first big goals was to make a percentage of Social Security an actual 401(k) type savings account. The plan was to continue normal Social Security for those already on it but the new people coming in would have a percentage set aside into a traditional account that belonged to the pression. After all it was your money being put into it with matching funds from your employer. The Democrats convinced everyone that Bush was trying to take money from them. He is going to starve old people. In fact he would have been giving money because everybody knows that a private type investment account is worth way more than a pennies if you get back on Social Security. If I had a true 401(k) type account of everything I and my employers put into Social Security in my name since I was 17 years old, almost 50 years ago, how much would I have in my account? I can guarantee it would be several times $2300 a month I draw now.

The problem with this story as with almost all of them, it came from the news media. It more than likely came from a press release by the police who released practically nothing any more. Why was the father not armed? The truth is, he might have been. Maybe the father showed up with a handgun but the guy turned and charged the juvenile and the father couldn’t shoot the suspect in the back, fearing hitting his son. That is one of just many “what ifs” but we have no clue what happened. When we say something like, well if I had been there….. In fact what you thought you would do may have been exactly what the father did. The media does not investigate anything, they don’t ask pertinent questions and even though a story might be several paragraphs long, it’s basically just a synopsis. When I was on patrol 25 years ago, if I showed up at a major crime scene there might be literally five reporters in my face asking me detailed questions about what happened. Sometimes I would release information and sometimes not but they were there digging. Now a patrol officer can be on the job for five years and show up at a major crime scene and never see a reporter. In fact most have never even spoken with one or had a question asked, even if the officer was not going to answer. The truth is there is almost no more news reporting. Most new stories are done strictly from police news releases, of which I have written many. I have seen several news stories in print and television media where the report was just copied and pasted from my news release. This is kind of an odd story and it would really be interesting to know what really happened, but we will probably never find out.

I don’t remember about Central‘s first year but they certainly could have been. I think Westbrook won the state championship in their first year of existence after starting their history by losing the first two or three ball games. The a couple of years later I think French won the state championship in their last year of existence. Maybe in the 84 or 85 school year. I think it was a 21 to 21 tie but back then they just called you co-champions. So if my fading memory is correct, Westbrook won the state championship in their first year and French won the state championship in the last year. The mergers did not happen all in the same year. I think first Beaumont high and Charlton Pollard high combined into both names, Beaumont Charlton Pollard or BCP. Then they took in French (86 maybe?) and became Central? Anyway, Beaumont had a pretty good run of teams in the mid 80s with two state championships and interestingly between the first and last years of two schools. If my memory….

I graduated in 1974. Those district where static for a few realignments. It sure made it easy. I “think” back then they had 8 man, B and then 1A-4A as six classifications. The 4A was the largest. At some point they move the B to 1A so that all 11 man football was at least an A. Then again they bumped everybody one and it became 1A-6A. I kind of want to think there was an eight man and a six man football back then. It is since been dropped to just six man. But that was almost 50 years ago and it’s stretching my memory.
-
4A was (equivalent to 6A now) biggest schools, no matter how big they got. Yes all classes have a cut off and it usually grows. At that time all six schools in Beaumont were in the highest classification available in Texas. Again going by memory when I graduated… 21-4A Beaumont Royal Purples South Park Greenies Hebert Panthers Forest Park Trojans Charlton Pollard Bulldogs French Buffaloes 22-4A Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson Yellow Jackets Port Arthur Abraham Lincoln Bumblebees Vidor Pirates Orange Lutcher Stark Tigers Nederland Bulldogs Port Neches-Groves Indians Which was always the end bi-district match.
-
I think Beaumont had six 4A (now 6A) high schools. Their entire six team district was within the city limits. If I remember correctly: Beaumont French Charlton Pollard South Park Hebert Forest Park

You beat me to that one. TDS is like Covid. A lot of people claim it’s fake but it isn’t.

Because of the utter moron running against him.

And I think only two of the six are Muslim or Arab.

How can 4 members of the House out of 435 force something to happen?

I have actually questioned a couple of dispatchers before, asking why they joined. I appreciate them donating money that we get to spend. I have heard them give the argument I gave above, they can be provided with a lawyer. Follow up was, yes but you have no rights other than federal law which is an EEOC discrimination in which case you don’t really need a lawyer. Our officers are covered by state law under civil service which covers hiring, promotions and all kinds of things and then by our collective bargaining agreement. Basically we have tons of rights and they have none except discrimination. But, I do appreciate their monthly donation to our association/union.
-
That’s what I talked about with our dispatchers. They can say, I am in a union. Can you bargained for wages? No. Can you bargained for working conditions? No. Can you vote on the police contract? No. Can you organize for collective-bargaining? No. But we are in a union..
-
I probably could’ve cut it short and said, anybody can call an organization what they want but only the police and fire in Texas can have collective-bargaining. We are like any other nationally accredited union in the country except that we cannot strike by state law.
-
If they cannot participate in collective bargaining, they have no union. You can call yourself a union and you can belong to an organization that pays to lobby or legal fees if you get in trouble. We had the same thing in the police department years before we went for collective-bargaining. We had no authority but the state police “union” would give us legal representation if we tried to organize and the police department tried to put a lot of pressure on us not to. I was at dues paying member of the national AFL-CIO…. yet we were not in a collective bargaining union at that time. But, we did have the authority to organize which we did a few years later. As an example some of our dispatchers belong to our association/union but they can’t bargain. They are also dues paying members. They cannot vote on our contract and are not affected by it, however being a member if they get terminated and they think it’s wrongful, the union will provide a lawyer. By being a member if they get terminated and they think it’s wrongful, the union will provide a lawyer. Simply put, they have no collective bargaining powers. That is reserved for first responders.

Like I have said a couple of times, there’s a lot to criticize in the city of Beaumont. That has nothing to do with people arguing with a private company on how much they will get paid. Again, except for police and fire there are no public unions in Texas. The city of Beaumont cannot negotiate a contract with the bus drivers. They are not city employees. The news article posted in the OP make it appear as the Beaumont in negotiating with their employees which is false. Beaumont is not negotiating and the employees are not hired by the city of Beaumont.

GABBY PETITO MISSING - BOYFRIEND REFUSES TO COOPERATE

Millions of people watch 48 Hours and other such investigative and particularly homicide shows. They are very popular. This is no different than the other shows except it’s playing out in front of their eyes. People are simply interested. Where did the crazy boyfriend go? Is the family helping to cover it up? Are they going to find him dead having committed suicide like about 90% of the people think is going to happen? Is he going to be cornered by the police and have a standoff and a shoot out? The border is not intriguing. Everybody knows what’s happening. There is no mystery like there is in the Gabby case. -
The Democrats anointing Hillary and stacking the deck where she could not lose, created Trump. There is almost no way Trump would have won the election had the Democrats put up anybody other than Hillary but in the smoke filled back room deals, she was chosen. Trump with his obnoxious ways, created Biden. And truth be known, Covid created Biden. If Covid did not exist, Trump would have won a landslide but the fact is Trump put Biden in office. Biden will make this three in a row by likely creating the next Republican president. He probably will not even run if he even makes out his term but he is going to be so bad that he is going to drag Democrats down in the gutter. Have the Democrats had a decent vice president right now, Biden could always back out and have a chance to let the Dems turn things around however, they do not. Will the 2028 election returning things to normal with career politicians fighting career politicians? I think a lot depends on 2024.

If this was a suicide, this guy must be the most stupid guy on the face of the Earth. Let’s see, my girlfriend killed herself so I’m going to act like nothing happened, refuse to talk with anyone when they realize that she has not been there for several days and then go in hiding… all while I had nothing to do with it. -
But the drivers don’t have a dog in the hunt so to speak. They are hired by a private company just like many local drivers. Many of the construction jobs in this area have private bus companies that drive the workers to the job site like Hotard. It doesn’t matter how much the chemical plant makes, they are not working for the plant. That is the entire point of hiring a private company. They take care of all the personnel issues. You pay for a product and they are supposed to show up. As the press release that I posted above says, the city of Beaumont cannot be involved. I know the drivers want more money. Almost everybody does.

Then why hide it for several days, refuse to talk with the police when they finally find out she is missing and then disappear? -
I think that almost all deaths are something other than the underlying factor. When people die of the flu, it is not because they have the flu. It is because they have COPD, congestive heart failure and other causes. The flu just pushes them over the top which is why the elderly more often die from the flu. It seems some people contribute secondary causes as a new phenomena under Covid.
-
Maybe it is maybe it is not. In my 60+ years on this planet I have never known a person to die of the flu. I have personally known seven people died of Covid. I have known several others that were hospitalized in critical condition. Add to the fact that at a 335 million people his country, almost 100% of them travel by vehicle. The numbers are not nearly so high for Covid. There is simply no comparing automobile deaths with Covid no matter what number should I use.
